Washington Capitals Secure Key Players with Recent Re-Signings

ahead of free agency the capital secures some vital players in [Music] reigning your locked on capitals your daily podcast on the Washington Capitals part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day hello and welcome in to this edition of lock on capitals coming to you before the official start of free agency and the capitals took care of some resigning some vital players some players that I feel will be a part of this team for the long term one of those players uh in particular that I’m talking about is Conor McMichael but just to get it going to the news surrounding the capitals here uh Conor McMichael reigning the capitals have successfully resigned Center Conor McMichael to a two-year contract just before his possible transition to restricted free agency the recently Inked deal Bears a $2.1 million cap hit McMichael showcased an impressive performance in the previous season culminating in 18 goals and 33 points across 80 games throughout his NHL career he has accumulated 27 goals and 51 points in 155 games notably McMichael was the 25th overall pick in 2019 NHL draft by the capitals his notable contributions extended to the a ahl’s Hershey Bears where his commendable performance contributed to the team’s C cup victories in 2023 amassing six goals and 10 points in 20 postseason games the Washington Capitals presently maintain 4,268 333 in NHL salary cap space with the anticipation of Nicholas Backstrom Extended Stay on the long-term injured reserve in the up coming season and there are other things to consider as well we do know about Nick Backstrom there is also the potential that TJ oi goes on the ltir as well but I think this is a key move for the capitals uh signing or resigning Conor McMichael to an extension an RFA a piece that I believe is a part of the long-term plans for the capitals if you are an everyday of the show you know I spoke about last summer that this past season that we played needed to be the season for Conor McMichael and you saw his career grow by Leaps and Bounds and part of it was just to talk about Nick Backstrom here for a moment is that when Nick Backstrom came into last season there was a lot of Hope there was a lot of promise that that hippers surfacing procedure that he had done was AOK okay and he would be good to go as it turns out it wasn’t and uh he stepped away from hockey indefinitely and it is my belief that he stepped away from hockey because he saw that Conor McMichael was ready for his opportunity uh Nick backr did not want to stand in the way of progress and how did Conor McMichael play in his absence really really well so I think he figures into being the long-term solution for the capitals as this team is positioning into being a younger team talking here next about recent resigning here of Mitchell Gibson and Chase prisy Additionally the capitals have executed the resigning of gender Mitchell Gibson on a oneyear two-way contract defenseman at Chase prisy on a one-year two-way deal Gibson age 24 demonstrated impressive statistics with the South Carolina sting rays in the ECHL during the 2324 SE season achieving a 2214 and3 record a 2.56 goals against average and an 899 safe percentage and three shutouts in 42 games what is one of the things that I know about the capitals and has been true for the longest time is they always have really great options in net uh you take a look at Mitchell Gibson up bit WS down the pipeline but uh the capitals are sitting in a good position in the net mining department for years to come meanwhile Chase prisy age 28 delivered a notable performance with Hershey amassing 34 points in 69 games and leading the Bears defensemen in various categories during the cder Cup playoffs prisy not only led a HL defenseman and assist but also shared the top spot among blue Liners in points uh we oftentimes talk about the future of the Blue Line we hear about Vince and iorio we hear uh about a lot of different players oftentimes I don’t think we hear about Chase prisy and how great that he played uh for the Hershey Bears this past season again I think that uh he is going to have a key role uh for the Hershey Bears next season but at some point hopefully we the face uh of the capitals as well another key addition in this one is huge for me or a reigning is for Ethan Frank the capitals have confirmed the resigning of Ethan Frank to a two-year contract Frank a significant contributor to the recent cder Cup champions triumphs of the Hershey Bears has secured his position with the team for the next two seasons this was a deal that absolutely had to get done next season you know how I talked about that last season needed to be the year for Conor McMichael this next season needs to be the season for Ethan Frank we can’t hold this guy down in the AHL any longer very fast we all know that a dynamic goal score I think that we need to work this guy into the Capitals lineup if he has a good camp in the fall I don’t think there should be any give Mees of course but I think that he is ready I think he’s put the work in if you take a look at the back of his hockey card it is quite impressive I would like to see a nice long look of Ethan Frank on the big team next year talking about Ethan Frank’s details hailing from uh Nebraska Frank accepted a qualifying offer earlier on Sunday and expeditiously reached an agreement with the Caps the terms of the deal include a two-way contract in the first year with Frank earning 775,000 if he secures a position with the capitals and 250,000 if he plays for Hershey the second year of the contract guarantees $775,000 irrespective of his team placement so I’m glad that they took care a lot of these contracts and securing the future of the Capitals in years to come uh you take a look at it all of these were very important uh again Ethan Frank I think is the guy that Garners the biggest oh while response for me that this was something in my brain that I really wanted them to push to the Front Burner I think it was something on the back burner for quite some time that I wanted them to make sure at least today to take care of this deal uh so he is a part of the capitals in the long term a dynamic player a Need for Speed this guy kills it out there in a huge piece for the capitals uh also to reiterate here Conor McMichael uh resigning again a key center for the capitals can play Wing as well uh these were the important moves to take place again keep it locked a lot locked on capitals all day um as I expect the moves to start coming in here soon and and who knows maybe JM Bron mlen has something up his sleeve and will swing for the fences and surprise us all I still think that there needs to be some bigger moves we saw Pier Luke Dubois we saw mangi aani two moves that are pretty good but I want that oh wow Mike drop moment like wow Brian mclen is serious this team is going to be a lot better next season already I think they’re in a good position I would love for them to be in a better position make sure and keep it locked to lock on capitals and I will have you guys covered all day long

They’ve also re-signed goaltender Mitchell Gibson and defenseman Chase Priskie to one-year, two-way contracts, and forward Ethen Frank to a two-year contract. The terms of Ethen Frank’s contract include $775,000 if he secures a position with the Capitals and $250,000 if he plays for Hershey in the first year, and a guaranteed $775,000 in the second year.
