Is the New Orleans Saints Future DOOMED? | Football Analysis Reaction Video

the New Orleans Saints future is extremely concerning this is from uh football analysis ladies and gentlemen this is probably the most requested video I’ve ever had no lie for like three straight days on the subreddit on in my comments people have said you got to see this you got to react to this so if the people want it I will deliver so we’re going to react to it like only we can do let’s go ahead and start it shall we the New Orleans Saints finished the 2023 season with a 9 and8 record and missed the playoffs for the third straight year it was an up and down year for the Saints as they started the year with a 2-0 record then dropped the 2 and2 and were eventually 5 and five through 10 games and you get how their year went they had some high moments throughout the season such as a 34 to nothing shut out win in New England in which they allowed just eight first downs while for something that gets me is how everybody starts Saints like they start the 2024 videos and they talk about it with last year they’re like well the Saints weren’t very good last year well the Saints offense was kind of whatever last year well the Saints play calling was kind of bad last year well the Saints offensive line wasn’t very good and to that I always say I we know like agreed that’s why we fired our entire coaching staff that’s why we drafted kis fuaga like that’s why we wouldn’t got Chase young like like that’s why we wouldn’t got Willie gay we know like no one no one is like la like imagine last year if imagine last year going into last season if we were previewing the Houston Texans and we were like well the Texans are had a pretty bad coach a pretty bad coaching staff uh their quarterback play was atrocious so we don’t expect them to be very good this year it’s like well they’ they fired the coach got a new coach drafted a quarterback have a new quarterback like I understand the saints were bad last year or average or mediocre or boring or whatever you want to say I understand the offense was was all those things but if if we address those things I just don’t get why why they are mentioned as precursors to why the Saints will be bad this year foring three turnovers and like the week eight win over the Colts in which they had one of the best offensive performances of not just their season but of anybody throughout the entire 2023 season but as we enter the 2024 regular season I simply ask the question what are the New Orleans Saints doing how are they trying to actively get better and trying to win a Super Bowl Under head coach Dennis Allen because to be completely honest this roster is one of the least inspiring in all of football well I would say that what we’re doing is we are trying to get Dennis to focus more on the defense allowing an offensive mind to actually call the plays on offense and actually have an offensive strategy something we haven’t had in his entire tenure with Pete Carmichael so now that we have that we have a new system we have a brand new scheme uh we have a more Innovative a 2024 NFL offense versus this kind of weird Shan Payton situation that we had the last couple of years I would say is the main thing we also are boosting our offensive line with tiis faga we also are bringing in defensive players like I said Willie gay and Chase young to help out in some other problem areas like pass rush and getting to the quarterback so that’s how we’re doing it the system is the same as far as like how we’re going to win we’re going to win with a really good defense and we’re going to try and have a top five defense and a top 12 offense that is like the algor that’s how the Saints are going to try and win and in today’s video we’re going to break down what we can expect from the 2024 Saints and if they can get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020 when they were eliminated by the Bucks in the divisional round of the playoffs there is a lot to break down with this team so let’s Dive Right In okay let’s go when you take a look back at the 2023 Saints season their most impressive win was a 23-13 win over the Bucks in week 17 which the defense forced four turnovers and they improved from 7-8 to 8 and8 entering week 18 and I credit them in a big way beating the division winner in their place let alone by double digits is a huge accomplishment for any NFL team but after that their most impressive win would probably be over the Colts in week eight which again credit where it’s due or over the Falcons I which is an absolute demolition of the Falcons at the at the end of at the uh last game of the season their offense played their tail off that day but aside from those two wins their other seven wins were all against teams that had a top 10 draft pick their other seven wins came against Bryce young twice Tyson bent Tommy DeVito Ryan tanah Hill M Jones and Desmond Ritter and that’s my biggest concern with the Saints entering 2024 I have no doubt this team has a solid floor and I have no doubt this team will get to at least seven wins hell maybe eight or nine but when it comes hell or high water do you trust TR Derek Carr and Dennis Allen to pull through and win a big game that to me is the biggest question surrounding the Saints this year now to be fair in recapping their 2023 season Derek Carr got hurt against the Packers in week three and there is a strong case to be made and let me make this clear I don’t really care about the big wins like the good wins the big wins from last year because I again we have a whole new system whole new scheme I don’t think there’s very much carryover at all like if anything it’s just like okay well you you’re glad to see the play come together the players seem to be on more of the same page like all that sure but like I don’t care that we were pretty close in beating Houston I don’t care that we were pretty close and beating Detroit or Jacksonville or whatever else like none of that matters to me the wins don’t matter the losses don’t matter it happen in the past and you know we we made the hopefully we made the moves to to fix it so you know and it’s crazy too how this guy’s like they’re going to be a the floors eight wins it’s like well yeah okay we agree with that I mean if the floor’s eight wins and again like I I’ve said every time we’ve done a video I don’t think the Saints are going to win 13 games I don’t think the Saints are win 14 games win the Super Bowl I think they’re going to be somewhere between nine 10 wins 11 at the most eight seven at the lowest and that puts them in contention for the NFC South that puts them in contention to win the division and host a playoff game that’s what we want to be doing and that’s what we are going to try and do this whole like can Derek Carr get you to Super Bowl Derek Carr is like the 19th highest paid quarterback in the NFL right now we’re not paying Derek Carr to get us to a Super Bowl if it happens it happens we’re paying Derek Carr to stabilize the franchise right now we’re paying Derek Carr to keep us relevant Mickey Lumis has done this for 20 years he has just tried to keep the Saints relevant he’s he tries to keep the Saints to where we’re never too bad sometimes we catch lightting in a bottle we can be really good but that’s his whole that’s the whole plan is keep your core together don’t let the performance drop too far and just steady the boat and it’s been pretty sweet for 20 years true or false and I’ll tell you this in the Last 5 Years in the last five years what do you think the Saints record is that’s three years of Dennis Allen two years of Shawn pyton at the end there with the banged up Derek Carr or Drew Brees so what do you think the Saints record is in the last five years because I’ve heard we’re a mediocre franchise I’ve heard we love just being average to below average I’ve heard we’re we are a bottom feeder I’ve heard we’re a bottom five franchise I’ve heard we need to blow it up what do you think it is I just ran the numbers before this video because I wanted to know myself 50 and 33 we are 50 and 33 in The Last 5 Years and somehow that is turned into a fan base that’s Furious that’s turned into people who believe we’re a bottom five franchise who believe we’re nothing but mediocre who believe our roster is talentless and a lot of that 50 and 33 is the same roster a lot of that is the Alvin cimas and the cam Jordans and the Demario Davis and the Marshon lore and the like it’s all a lot of the same guys so I understand like oh well they’re getting older going into last season we were the second oldest team in the NFL oldest was the Jets the average age of the team was 27 the youngest going into last season were the Buccaneers their average age was 25 so I understand like you don’t want to be the oldest team but how much of a difference really is it if the average age of your team is 27 versus the average age of your team being 25 the Chiefs last year was 17 they were like right around 26 years old who cares like that doesn’t matter it does I would much rather have Demario Davis at 30 whatever years old than a 22y old who’s half of his ability you know so like this idea that the the roster’s talentless when a majority of the roster is the same and has delivered us a 50 and 33 record over the last couple of years like and then you could say oh well it’s Shawn pton it was all Shawn pyton I like well ask Denver about that it was all Drew Brees did y’all watch Drew Brees at the end there he barely throw he was hurt the whole time like those are just lazy narratives that if he does not get hurt they win in Lambo and start 3 and0 I did at least want to include that because I’m sure Saints fans were probably thinking it now to break down their free agency period and what they did before the draft well there’s not a lot to write home about the best players they lost in free agency were Malcolm roach who went to Denver jamus Winston who went to Cleveland and Andress Pete who went to Las Vegas yeah didn’t lose much and all of these guys including Zack Bon Corner Lonnie Johnson and safety Marcus may all went elsewhere too but they’re probably going to be backups with their new teams yeah so New Orleans didn’t really lose anybody big in free agency and depending how much emphasis you place on a backup quarterback in today’s era could determine whether or not you consider jamus Winston a big loss but the point is most of the 2023 team is going to be back now if you know anything about which is another Hallmark like I just said of Mickey Lumis like you could say you could have said that every year for the last like five six years like ah most of those players are going to be back most of the players are going to be back the Saints just aren’t one of those teams that turn over the roster a lot that’s just not how Lumis operates about the Saints and how they operate under GM Mickey Lumis they have a unique way that they go about spending their money and it’s that they max out the cap every year and don’t really plan ahead and to be completely honest that’s been my frustration with this they actually do plan ahead they plan ahead a lot because they max out the cap and they know all right we got to play this out a couple years down the road because we ain’t paying these contracts so we got to figure out how in 2 years or 3 years we’re going to restructure all these deals what is the plan if anything the Saints have to plan ahead because they have to continually stay ahead of these contracts the Saints are really good at this cap thing for what the Saints want to do I have zero issue with the cap management cap is so overrated because unless you are a CFO or a CPA unless you are breaking down Financial contracts and you really understand this stuff none of us get it none of us understand how they transition stuff into bonuses and cash bonuses and incentives and you know the June first period versus the off season versus you know taking the bonus and making that into an extra year of the deal at the back end but also making it not guaranteed like there’s so much that goes into it here’s the fact of the matter the Saints have been able to play every game the Saints have been able to pay the electric bill and keep keep the lights on in the dome they’ve been able to go sign a100 million franchise quarterback while under in cap hell so until it becomes an issue who cares like until it until we’re sitting here saying like guys look bad news we can’t resign Marshon lore we can’t resign Alvin cimo we can’t resign this player we can’t go sign this guy we can’t do this because we have a cap problem until that happens it’s just a talking point like it’s just it’s just a thing but but we get under the cap most of the time we do it in a way to where we’re like damn the Saints all of a sudden have $30 million to spend and then we go spend it like having the cap maxing it out every year getting your players staying relevant I I don’t have a problem with it Saints over the past few years because what I do have a problem with is paying Trevor Lawrence $275 million what I do have a problem with is paying Dak Prescott $60 million a year so like the other teams who aren’t in cap hell but are wildly overpaying their players and then are completely screwing themselves over because they can’t pay anybody else that is Cap mismanagement giving Todd Gurley a hundred whatever million dollars the Rams did then all of a sudden they couldn’t pay anybody those are those are problematic cap issues not what we do Shawn pton and Drew Brees are no longer there to cover this way of building a football team and since Drew retired they’ve been hovering between average and just above average but never good enough to win big games however I really liked what they did in free agency with the limited assets they had in bringing in Chase young and Willie Gay Jr to help out the defense yep Willie should be a solid third linebacker alongside de Mario Davis and Pete Warner quietly I really like this linebacking Trio now with Demario being 35 it has to be mentioned that he is obviously getting old and that a drop off will probably happen at some point and in fact he is the oldest player on the roster but the Mario has played the best football of his career since becoming a saint several years ago and he is amongst the best linebackers in football Ian and while Willie isn’t on the same level as de Mario I like the addition is he’s an athletic freak I mean he’s an athletic freak that’s what we need got to get younger got to get faster especially for the cost as the Saints gave him a one-year provate deal for $3 million I also really like the chase young signing because Chase had a career high in pressures and a tie for career-high in sacks last year and anytime you have a player that has showed as high of flashes as Chase has throughout his career I’m all for a one-year deal and if you give a player like Chase a one-year $13 million deal honest which isn’t really $13 million it’s incen of Base which really like another proven deal which again like we’ve been in cap hell the last two years and what do we got to show for it Derek Carr Chase young Willie gay like we’re we’re moving stuff around so you know if that’s what cap hell looks like honestly I don’t care if it’s fully guaranteed or if only 50% of it’s guaranteed because in the best case scenario the player proves thems and they get a long-term deal and in the worst case they’re gone in a year anyway yeah so I really liked what the Saints did in free agency with the limited assets they had by bringing in both willly gay and Chase young defensive coordinator Joe Woods is back for his second season with the team and the Saints play a lot of cover one and cover three meaning they run a lot of middle of the field closed Concepts and I would expect a lot of the same from the Saints in 2024 not just because Joe Woods is back but because a lot of their defense is going to be this what are we talking about Joe Woods for what what just happened second season with the team and the Saints play a lot of cover one and cover three so I really liked what the Saints did in free agency with the limited assets they had by bringing in both Willie gay and Chase young defensive coordinator Joe Woods is back for his second season with the team and the Saints play a lot of cover one and cover three meaning they run a lot of middle of the field closed Concepts and I would expect a lot of the same from the Saints in 2024 not just because Joe Woods is back but because a lot of hey news flash Joe Woods isn’t calling the defense spoiler alert Dennis Allen is our defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is calling the defense Dennis Allen is the best defensive play caller in the NFL per patent analytics last season I don’t think Joe Woods is calling the defense news flash number two when Shawn Peyton was here he was the offensive coordinator like just because someone’s a defensive coordinator or an offensive coordinator doesn’t mean they’re calling the plays there is a head coach there is other variables Dennis Allen defensive coordinator this has nothing to do with Joe Woods their defense is going to be the same as last year and bringing in Chase young is not going to change the defense from calling a lot of cover one to quarter quarter half or to any other cover it’s been the exact same defense as Dennis Allen’s gotten there like the idea that’s like yeah it’ll probably be the same as last year because of Joe Wood’s second year it’s like brother it was it was the same way before Joe wood coverage now the 2023 Saints finished eighth in points allowed per game and if this team is going to go to the playoffs and have any sort of success they’re going to have to finish top 10 in points allow per game again I mean I don’t agree with that I don’t agree with the points allow like who cares about stats like that like passing yards per game whatever it’s all that there’s too much too many variables too much you need so much context to to worry about that but and people are going to say well how how how is how is like passing yards per game not important for example if you’re up 40 to nothing you’re going to give up a lot of passing yards if you’re up 40 to nothing every game you are going to give up a ton of passing yards because the the other team is doing nothing but throwing the ball and you are doing nothing but playing prevent defense just trying to basically kill the clock so that’s an example right there like if you’re if you win every single game go undefeated 40 to nothing and you got 40 nothing immediately more than likely you’re like bottom five and passing yards given up but with context you can see why what I do agree with is that if the Saints want to win the division and want to go to the playoffs and want to host a playoff game they do have to have a on average like value over play all that dvoa they probably do need to have a top 10 defense again and what you may not know is the saints were top 10 in both offensive points per game last year and defensive points per game allowed last year but when the saints defense allowed 18 or more points in a game in 2023 New Orleans was just one and8 with their lone win coming over the Colts in week eight so when they were accumulating all of wins in 2023 outside of the Colt scheme of course it was most of the time against young quarterbacks that could not move the ball against this defense and the receivers some of these guys were throwing to would also show that like when they played the Panthers Giants or Titans yeah we will dive into the Saints schedule later in the video but the front four is going to have to get after the quarterback this year early and often and I know I have my gripes with how Mickey Lumis goes about running his team from a salary cap standpoint and I know some saints fans are fed up as well but the Saints pass rush this year and Hell their entire front seven is going to be a problem I don’t know I mean I don’t know if the pass rush I mean we we attempted to fix it like we’ll see I like the linebackers like I like the idea of Demario Davis Willie gay Pete Warner I’m okay with the defensive line if Chase young you know Chase young plays he’s good like Carl Granderson Chase young Cam Jordan a healthy version of Cam Jordan like oh that’s cool and Brian baze if he can kind of figure things out like is it is it the you know is it the the Purple People leaders or is it the Chicago Bears of in Mike dikas era no it’s not it’s not that but you know it’s could be better but it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen obviously Cam Jordan is not the same player he was five or six years ago as he is now a wildly old vet at 35 years old but he played injured for a lot of the 2023 still get six or seven sacks this year they also have a pretty underrated player in Carl Granderson who led the team in pressures last year with 58 and Carl was rewarded with a 4-year contract extension last September and I don’t like to harp too much on guys as much as voice my concerns so a big credit to Mickey Lumis for paying his top pass rusher before that number would have went up exponentially as yeah exactly like we’re we’re last year we were cap restricted or whatever we were in cap problems but we found a way to pay Carl Granderson you know that’s that’s what I’m saying I don’t understand when people talk about the cap when people are really really upset about the cap it’s like guys it it has yet to affect us it is yet to stop us from doing anything we want to do if we would have had to let Granderson go and Mickey said well we couldn’t pay I’m like okay sure I voice your concern but as they locked him in at 13 million per year and when you have three legit pass rushing options in Granderson who by the way is probably the most famous player to play for the University of Wyoming in the NFL Chase young and Cam Jordan I mean you know Josh Allen exists I mean I don’t know if I would say Carl Granderson is more famous than Josh Allen but what about now well I really like their options especially for a team who plays a lot of manto man coverage and for a team that relies on getting home they also have 2023 first round defensive tackle Brian breaze who had four and a half sacks from the interior as a rookie and over 30 pressures contributing to and again a really really like the Saints front 7 I have my wait didn’t he just say that the front 7 was was going to be a problem or was he saying that in like a good way like they’re going to be good now I’m not even sure I think he said they’re going to be a problem but I guess I guess he means like a good problem like like a problem for opposing offenses these videos blow my mind where it’s like the Saints future is extremely concerning I hate what the Saints have going on now let me list all the reasons they’re awesome let me list how awesome their defense is let me list that Mickey Lumis is salary cap even though that’s a problem he can pay whoever he wants let me list like all this stuff the it sounds like the future is pretty chill my concerns with the same secondary as marshan lore has played in just 17 total games over the past 2 years and not only that but he is entering year eight and anytime a corner in today’s era is entering year seven or anything beyond year seven a start to worry about fathertime catching up to them safety Tyran Matthew is also 32 years old and I know he has had a good first two years with the Saints but the secondary is the best part of the team and and the two players that he’s mentioned being old Tyran Matthew and Demario Davis are like two of the most consistent best players on our team like with de Mario Davis we have to note his age because he is no spring chicken Paulson adbo has become a good player for the Saints as a second corner I mean it would be like every season when Tom Brady played being like well Tom Brady is getting kind of old he is 35 now and then the next year being like well he’s 36 Father Time’s Got to catch up with him and then fast forward five more years and you’re like well Tom Brady’s 41 like he’s gota he’s got to start slowing down why you know like until you see it happening there’s no reason to say it’s going to happen and I think he could be in for a big year Jordan Howden was good for a fifth round rookie last year and we will see how he plays in year two and while I think the Saints secondary if all healthy and all playing at their best can be good this year I really really like their front four but they will have their work cut out for them as they do play some very tough opponents especially early on in the 2024 season now I have a lot of concerns with the Saints offense entering 2024 and it’s more than just saying Derek Carr is not a top five top seven or top eight quarterback and that should not be a hot take I don’t think Saints fans would even go to war for their Guy saying he is a top player at the position but we’ll start with the running back position now I have a lot of concerns with Alvin chimra and Jamal Williams entering 2024 as we know in today’s era running back shelf lives are shorter than ever before and their position and decline at the position starts faster than a lot of other positions corner is really the only one that comes into mind now with Alvin chimra and Jamal Williams those guys have had great careers but they were drafted back in 2017 and each player entering the 2024 season is 29 years old this is already after a year in which the Saints finished 31st in yards per carry now I know offensive coordinator or former offensive coordinator P carmichel was fired and they brought in Clint kubak but I don’t think Clint kubak is going to make them go from averaging 3.6 yards per carry like they did last year to averaging 4.8 or 5.0 yards per carry and that they’re going to be one of the best running teams in all of football they will be better at running the football they will they will be better how much better I don’t know but they’re not going to average 3.8 yards carry Alvin K will be better than he was last year I mean currently all the negative is is that certain players are older certain players are just kind of past the average like peak of a career that’s about it but and and I guess that’s just like different ways of watching the game or whatever but you know people it’s like watching the Chiefs or previewing the Chiefs and being like I think the Chiefs are great but if Patrick Mahomes gets hurt they’re going to be terrible so I’m going to pick them to have under however many wins and it’s like well man you are putting a lot of your eggs in the basket of him getting hurt like to say that all these players is just like well Tyran Matthew’s kind of older so eh Demario Davis Kind of older so eh Alvin C’s kind of older so eh it’s like if they don’t show any physical like taking a step backwards physically like you’re kind of cooked so for me it’s I I think it’s way more important or way more beneficial as an analyst so focus on the scheme and focus on the system and focus on the football side of things versus trying to be a general practitioner like I’m not a doctor you know like there’s a reason doctors don’t call football games like it’s not all about age and average age and all that like sometimes it is a scheme system ability Talent like that all factors in more than their fast twitch muscles or more than I mean we’re talking about like 0.00001% of athletes 0.001% of alpha athletes like players like Alvin CRA like when you’re talking about oh well he’s old for our running back he’s still that old for a running back or even like Martian lore old for a defensive back is we’re talking about 28 years old 28 is pretty young physically like 28 are you as good as you were when you’re 24 I don’t know maybe like I can speaking for me and I’m certainly not an 0.001% NFL athlete but me at 24 and me at 28 not that much different as far as like my athleticism like what I could do on the field or what I could you know like you don’t feel it that much I mean there might be a little bit in some people but some people get better with age some people learn to take care of their body or learn to do things or there’s just more technology out there or there you know all of a sudden they start stretching different or whatever like they Chang their diet like in the grand scheme of things 27 and 28 is still pretty young physically they just for your body the Saints spent a third round pick on running back kendre Miller in the 2023 draft and Miller’s rookie year he had 51 total touches he wasn’t a bad player when they brought him in but he certainly wasn’t Elite either and if you are thinking in the best case scenario you may be thinking that this could be the 2024 version of Kiren Williams kyen did not have a good rookie year for the Rams in 2022 and in fact it looked very similar to what kendre did for New Orleans last year but predicting the next Kiren Williams is pie in the sky and if Kendry becomes that player I will 100% welcome being wrong on that but Alvin CRA could be Kiren Williams this year because kir is in a system like we’re it’s very similar to what we’re going to do that’s why this system is so sweet you could say the same stuff about Raheem moard going into last season someone someone in the comments how old is Raheem moard he’s got to be older than CA and you’re it’s like you could easily say well Raheem moer why would he have a career year he’s this age and he’s this this and this this and this and then you turn around it’s like damn the Miami Dolphins just ran for 2,000 yards you know so it it’s like you got to factor in the scheme and the system and all that that’s why these schemes and system are so good is that if you have the physical skill set you can be good in the system the system isn’t just line up run straightforward the system is we’re going to use these Zone runs we’re going to use this kind of you know wide Zone scheme here to get you in space get you open run through lanes and then then use the physical ability that we know you have to to do the rest that’s how you predict this stuff you know like if you focus on Kiren Williams and just him without the context of the system you would have never been like yeah he’s going to be sweet he’s going to be awesome if Kiren Williams played for the New York Giants last year would he have been just as good no he wouldn’t if Raheem moard was the running back for the uh for the Titans last year would he have been as good as he was last year for the Dolphins no I think it’s incredibly Reckless to predict that or to at least think that could be the case entering the season now for the rest of the Saints offensive players or at least at the skill positions I’m not really motivated or enthused by what they have outside of Chris olve rasid Shahed could be a solid number two and he had over 700 yards last year and I hope he can build upon that as that would be a good wide receiver to for New Orleans but after that we’re talking about Cedric Wilson Jawan Johnson at Perry equinus St Brown and I’m not really moved by any of these guys again outside of Shahed and even that can be a little bit of a projection in himself I don’t think the Saints offensive line is one of the better units in football entering 2024 although again I do credit Mickey Lumis for not doubling down on Trevor Penning selection and saying hey Trevor we know you struggled in 2023 but we’re going to throw you out there at left tackle again in 2024 just to see if we have something in our former first round pick I really really liked the select ction of tackle to Lisi fuaga when they took him in the first round of the 2024 draft and I think he will have a big impact early on for New Orleans but the elephant in the room to me is quarterback Derek Carr now if you look at Carr’s raw numbers from 2023 he threw 25 touchdowns to eight interceptions and you may say that’s pretty good and it’s certainly not bad it’s certainly not you know 3540 touchdowns but it’s doable it’s workable if you will but Derek hard through 13 touchdowns to just seven interceptions and averaged 221 yards per game through the first 13 games of the 2023 season I’ve spoken with several Saints fans at least I did throughout the season last year and there were times where they wanted jamus Winston to play over car no no one no one thought that certainly nobody who was watching the game and yes again agreed the offense wasn’t good last year Yes again agreed it was horrible to watch 220 yards a game we were lucky to get there we had 40 yards passing at halftime of plenty of games yeah that was not fun yeah that was not dope that was not awesome good news is we fired our entire coaching staff and brought in a whole new scheme because they knew jamus would bring a spark to the offense that Carr simply didn’t have now Derek had a good end to the 2023 season as he threw 12 touchdowns to just one interception in the final four games but I’m not all of a sudden going to be a big believer in Derek Carr and think that the guy that we saw in the final four games of the 2023 season for New Orleans is going to carry over in his 10th or 11th season now and that he’s going to have a 37 passing touchdown season and that he’s going to set the league on fire I we don’t need him to good we don’t need him to we need him to be better than last year you told me if you told me he had 30 touchdowns and 10 picks I’ll tell take it 4,000 yard 30 touchdowns 10 picks okay sweet I’m not a big believer in Derek Carr and I think that was just enough to get fans to buy back in and to give him some hope entering the 2024 season especially given the saints went three in one during the final four games and I don’t think Derek Carr is going to have that good of a year this year and to me the New Orleans Saints are almost the definition of painfully average 50 and 33 over the last five years like why would why I’m not saying car is gonna like the league on fire but I don’t understand the idea of like he’s going to be bad this year why like unless you believe Clint kubak system is just garbage the only like that’s the only way you can really come down on this the only way you can say I think that car is going to be bad is if you believe kubak is going to fail but if you believe kubak is going to be good as a play caller offensive coordinator then you can’t say kubak is GNA be a good offensive coordinator good play caller and then say Derek Cars me bad they can’t both happen at the same time the Saints should have pretty substantial rookie impact especially from their first round pick to Lisi fuaga whether they play him at left tackle or right tackle to me is irrelevant as I think he’s athletic enough to make the transition over to left tackle and if in the scenario Ryan ramek has played his last snap as a New Orleans Saint then we saw the player fuaga was unfilmed during his time with Oregon State last year and I think he will be able to not only make the transition from Collegiate level to the NFL level but I think he will do a fine job and I think the Saints have a long-term starter in fuaga I also think they more than righted their wrong with the Trevor Penning selection a few years ago Corner Kool-Aid mckinstry was their second round pick and I not only liked the value of the selection as I had Kool-Aid in my top 30 in my final top 150 Big Board oh I would love to see that but what I liked in particular about this was they drafted a very good and very smart football player in the middle of the second round and to be honest I would be surprised if Kool-Aid doesn’t play for them for at least four or five years maybe even six or seven we’ll see but the point is I think yeah two I mean across the board everyone said the Saints had a good draft we’ve covered this a million times telis faga great pick at 14 and then Kool-Aid great pick in the second round think the Saints came away with this draft with two starters and that’s really all you can hope for yeah especially at the offensive tackle and Corner position how will Kole do in his rookie year is something I’m very interested to see because as we know Corners get tested not just week in and week out but every single play in and play out but the point is I think they will have two long-term starters in fuaga and mckinstry they did not pick again until they selected quarterback Spencer Rattler in the fifth round and on the podcast we’ve discussed the possibility of Spencer Rattler coming in late in the year if in the scenario Derek hard doesn’t play well like he did for most of the 2023 season I think Rattler is definitely more of a developmental selection as there was a reason the quarterback or the quarterback six and quarterback seven was over a 100 spot difference as quarterback six was Bo Nicks and quarterback seven was Spencer Rattler one of my favorite picks in the 2024 draft not just for the Saints but of anybody especially on day three and in terms of value was the selection of defensive tackle Christian Boyd will not play I would have been fine if any team took Christian Boyd in the early part of the fourth round yet they got him on late day three now how much will he contribute in year 1 to be honest I don’t know the answer to that and I wouldn’t expect anything substantial from Christian Boyd but I do like the possibility of Brian breaze and Christian Boyd moving forward the bottom line for the Saints 2024 class is I think they have two long-term starters with a lot more potential throughout the later rounds now for the Saints 2024 schedule aside from the week one game against Carolina at home in which I think they will win weeks two through five is brutal for New Orleans and I think a one and four start is very possible for them because after the Carolina game in week one they go to Dallas then come home to play Philly then go to Atlanta and then go to Kansas City on Monday night and the worst part about that Kansas City game on Monday night aside from losing a day of rest recovery and game planning is they come home in week six to play a division opponent in a game that’s going to mean a lot more with the Bucks than people may think that week six game could potentially determine a seventh playoff spot in the NFC what also makes matters worse for New Orleans is the Falcons have an easier schedule and we discussed this in the Falcons team Falcons had an easier schedule last year too breakdown if you want to go check that out after the end of this video but in weeks 16 through for the Saints they go to Green Bay on Monday night then come home to play the Raiders in week 17 then go to Tampa Bay in week 18 and in the NFC while the quarterback play isn’t as loaded as the AFC there’s going to be a lot of teams contending for spots 5 through seven and as I said in the Falcons video I do think Atlanta will win the division and their schedule is a lot easier than New Orleans yeah how that worked last year they don’t have to go to Kansas City they don’t have to play other teams that new New Orleans has to play which again makes Atlanta’s schedule easier this was already with a team in 2023 for New Orleans by the way that had a plus 11 turnover margin and a team that finished top 10 in both points we got 60 seconds left of this video I’ve been waiting for him to tell me why the future is extremely concerning because he said he loves the draft loves the front seven loves the front four loves the Kool-Aid and FY faga loves what Micky Lumis said in the offseason with Willie gay and Chase young so the only issue this guy’s got is Derek Carr That’s it so I’m I’m waiting to hear why our future is extremely concerning per game and points allowed per game last year and they still didn’t make the playoffs so to be completely honest I think the saint ceiling is a wild card exit and that would be as a wild card team as they don’t think the Saints are going to win the division they didn’t last year wait wait yeah I don’t think let me let me go back I I think the ceiling is probably that first round of the playoffs whether it’s a win like the Bucks had last year against the Eagles or whatever but like that’s where that’s where I’m just so confused with these videos is that this this young whipper snapper can sail this for 20 minutes and then say so in in conclusion I think the Saints are going to be a 10- win team win the division I think the ceiling for the Saints is a 10 and seven in an NFC South championship and a loss in the first round of the playoffs and I’m sitting here going like yeah okay that sounds about right so why should I be concerned why are why is the sky falling in New Orleans if that’s kind of the ceiling that’s what I think like I think like everything this guy said besides like all the filler stuff if you told me bullet point list great draft good signing by Mickey Lumis and free agency uh 10 wins ceiling division champ ionship playoff game if you told me all that it’s like yeah I think that is a pretty sweet draft class I think 10 wins probably about about right I think we we’re playing for the division yeah like all that stuff is like yep yep yep yep yep yep yep the difference is I’m sitting here saying like things are looking up and everyone else is saying it’s time it’s time to it’s time to abandon ship a lot of things going for them I also think there is a possibility this team starts out one and four and when you are battling uphill from one and four it’s always going to be tough sledding I think the Saints will finish anywhere from 7 and 10 to 9 and 8 but again with the maximum a wild card playoff loss I hope you enjoyed today’s video and if you did yeah I mean I don’t I don’t agree with that part like I don’t think the max when when whenever you are in the probably the worst division in football and you lost on the division to a tiebreaker last year and You’re expect and this guy’s expecting us to go like he said somewhere between seven and nine wins so let’s just say nine wins and nine wins would have could have won you the division last year with a better tiebreaker I think you have to say that the max is a division championship like that’s the the suduku puzzle does not fit for the Saints for a lot of these analysts because the sidoku puzzle is this team lost the division on a tiebreaker but they made the changes to get better coaching staff draft picks free agents everyone every every single person has agreed with that every single person has agreed great draft class impact rookies good free agent signings great offensive coordinator signing everyone’s agreed with that so if you agree with that you have to agree that the team will be better and if the team was asked last year and Derek Carr was bad according to this guy last year and you expect him to take a step forward because of all those things I just said the suduku puzzle has to have them in contention for the NFC South and if you are in contention for the NFC South if you are in contention for winning the division and hosting a playoff game then you’re then everything’s fine everything’s Gucci so to like to me the suduku puzzle is obvious the only way it doesn’t work out for the Saints because if we win 10 games and we lose on a tiebreaker same situation it’s like I’m cool with that because we showed progress we showed Improvement I would assume that means Clint kubak is probably pretty good if if we’re winning 10 games like okay you lose on a tiebreaker results injuries there’s a lot of variables you know if we win seven games if we win six games if we take if we take a step backwards yeah fire didn’t Sal yeah I mean you know car is not the answer find somebody else like for sure but I think the only way you take a step backwards like I said is if Clint kuak is a failure I’ve yet to hear a person say they think that’s going to be the case so I I feel like these videos like people are just talking out of both sides of their mouth where it’s I mean that was 20 minutes of good stuff about the Saints the only thing this guy said bad about the Saints was car and Allen and and but really with no with no reason like there’s there was no reason of why car was going to be bad there was no reason of why car was going to be worse this year than last year it was just kind of a flippant thing he said but everything else he said was pretty POS POS I mean unless I’m mistaken but I mean I guess he said he didn’t he didn’t love the wide receiver room which I okay I’m fine like I’m okay with that I’m okay with saying we have an average-ish wide receiver room I would put our wide receiver room on the same in the same area as the Falcons I think the Buccaneers had the best wide receiver room in in the division I don’t I don’t think the Falcons do I don’t think you can say the Falcons have like this is the Falcons wide receiver room instilling a ton of confidence I don’t see it I don’t see it I mean we keep we keep seeing these videos ladies and gentlemen we keep hearing the same stuff and I think what it is honestly is I think we’re running into that time of the off season where channels are doing their like every team analysis and you’re getting you’re running into a lot of videos about teams that these guys don’t cover these guys don’t watch I mean this guy this guy not like him not saying Dennis Allen is who’s calling our defensive plays is all you need to know and no offense to this guy you know every channel does it I mean I could do it I could cover every team because I know both I watch every game I watch every team I watch I I know I know what’s going on you know I’m not going to sit here and say that the Rams offensive coordinator is calling the plays I know who’s calling the play Shan McVey is calling the plays you know so I could certainly do it but I think that’s why we’re seeing these videos is we’re seeing all this like League wide coverage and it’s a lot of talk about the roster talk about last season talk about whatever but no one really mentions what’s actually happening you know like he covered how last season went he basically recapped last season and recapped the off season but the problem is that if you recap that you have to acknowledge like all that is positive steps and if all that is positive steps you have to say like well actually the Saints might be pretty pretty okay but for some reason no one’s connecting those dots so there you go very highly requested video thank you very much for requesting it a lot of people were I mean I got this video on YouTube I got this video on Twitter I got this video on Reddit I got this video everywhere so thank you very much for um always letting me know what you want to watch I love when yall Drive the Channel Drive what videos we are we’re watching so thank you very much for watching ladies and gentlemen get on down in the comments below and I will see you in the next video

  1. Another funny ass thing about the Saints fanbase….. when they lose it's all Derek Carrs fault,,, but when they win he gets none of the credit????? so you can't have it both ways

  2. Honestly dont think Derek Carr could have went to a better team. He is still building his legacy and the Saints are a good team for that. 13-4

  3. I'm curious, who's idea was is to keep Pete for 2 years? Who's? Anyone in the building should have absolutely understood who Pete is, and what his role actually was in all his time with Sean Payton. I'm happy with where we are at, but I beg the question, who wasted the last 2 years?

  4. The guy has already covered his projected winner Atlanta and he recaps everything he he found or knew and but is careful to conclude only facts that don’t contradict his projections for Atlanta and perhaps TB. Unfortunately he doesn’t seem to know about the new offensive scheme- that should be concerning to any one who is looking for insightful look at this season for the Saints.

At least he wrote and read his script without was being incoherent. But he gives James a chance to pick apart the lack of insight and the logical consistency whenever it occurs.

  5. Hey James, it would be cool for you to do a video about The Broncos and what to expect with Pistol Pete breaking in Bo Nix. Will Sean Payton wish he had never left the Saints, as he is gonna have a ton of pressure to win. Another bad season and he’s on the hot seat? And do you think Sean Payton would have signed Derek Carr if he had stayed in NO?

  6. According to him, the team is just great. But, Carr…. That is the dumbest, inaccurate can't explain why nonsense. That's only because thats the popular thing to say.

  7. Everyone seems so sure Atlanta is going to be so good but there's way too many variables, what if Cousins pulls a Rodgers and his season lasts 2 plays? What's their plan B? And who's stopping the Saints if something like that happens. Same thing could happen to Carr too. And dammit here we go right at the end of the video as I'm typing this James says "results, injuries, lot of variables" Making the good points here

  8. We can't say definitively the Saints haven't signed any FA's that they wanted because of the salary cap. It's not like Mickey Loomis is holding a press conference and saying, yeah, we really wanted this guy or that guy, but we couldn't afford him. Have the Saints not signed some of their own players because of the salary cap situation? Probably. I see a lot of former Saints out there having pretty good careers. Are the Saints keeping players they'd have preferred to cut, but didn't cut because cutting them would trigger too much prorated money into the current cap? Probably. I doubt if Cam Jordan would still be on the roster if cutting him was a salary cap neutral move. Maybe he still would be. I don't know. I do know the cap situation was a disincentive to cutting him. The salary cap situation is something that needs to be fixed because it's forcing the Saints to make too many decisions on players too many years in advance. They have to start restructuring and extending guys just to get under the cap to start every year.

The only comment I would have on the young whippernsapper's analysis is there was no logic to it as far as connecting dots to lead us from A to B to C to the final conclusion that the Saints were in big trouble. Tough schedule to start with? Sure, I'll buy that. But I will go out on a limb and say the Saints do not lose all 3 against the Cowboys, Eagles, and Chiefs. They might lose 2 of the 3, but it won't be all 3. Let's say the other team has a 70% chance of winning each of those games. 70% of 70% of 70% = 34.3%, or only about 34.3% chance of the Saints losing all 3. It's only if the Saints lose game 1 to the Panthers that I see them starting off 1-4. Worst case (assuming a win in week 1) is a 2-3 start.

  9. Never seen any other quarterback get picked apart the way DC Florida does how many times did Patrick mahomes throw garbage touchdown when they were up by 20,

  10. Its clear he doesnt know whats going on with the saints, he mentions kendre not having a good season as if he had played a lot, he claims we wont improve from 3.6ypc to 5ypc as if improving to 4 or 4 point something wouldnt be a massive improvement, he doesnt mention players like Hill and mentions woods as if he was calling the defense lol, he just repeats the same "I dont trust Allen and carr" that lazy low iq people uses

  11. Derek Carr had two less TD's and nearly half the interceptions than Mahommes! Carr was hurt last year and had a woeful O-line and inept O-Coordinator. What more do the fans want from Carr?

  12. yo james love the videos. i have a question what west coast style offenses have failed in recent years. theyve all seem to have hit as of late

  13. The weird thing is the cap thing. The cap does increase every year. Plus there is always next year. You can push the contracts into the future. Cap only affects what you can sign immeadiately this year. Tbh its not the same way most gms manage cap and rosters. Is that a bad thing no.
