2024 NHL Draft Selections: Nathan Villeneuve (63rd Overall, Seattle Kraken)
well how you feel Nathan I’m relieved I mean it was a little stressful times kind of knowing where I’m going to go but I’m really honored to be selected by Seattle do you have a feeling that it was going to be the Kraken I talked to him all year I mean uh G was my captain this year and he’s kind of in Seattle and signed there and uh he’ll be playing the next year so uh he’s been talking to me a lot and they had a lot of interest in me but what has he said about Seattle uh he loves it there I mean uh organization’s first class and uh I mean he he’s also very very talented player and they have a lot of prospects there too so it’s kind of G to make him better as well Nathan who’s here with you today I got my mom my dad my brother my sister uh Conor and Payne two of my friends and then uh my brother and sister’s boyfriend and girlfriend they’re all they’re all here today you’re kind of known for your pesky play are you proud of that and how did that come to be your style I am I mean I’m a playoff player I’m someone that will will help the team in the playoffs a lot and during the regular season I’m someone that’s just very physical competitive and um I know I love scoring goals and I can have a lot of offense to me too what are the things you want to continue to develop or maybe evolve in your game I mean everything I need to get a little faster stronger um work on my awareness and I think in a couple years I’ll be ready to make the jump to either the a or the NHL where does that toughness come from like those quite a few clips of you throwing throwing hands yeah I think it’s just my competitiveness um I mean I I like to protect my teammates to kind of make sure no one’s going to do anything dumb on the ice with on the ice there so I just kind of like to be my competitive self and um I mean I think this comes from my dad who was a very physical guy kind played football Growing Up So prob that a lot of guys will talk about making sure they’re right on the line there right like being physical but not too physical to get yourself in trouble how do you navigate that yeah I mean I was really bad at my first year I think I had almost 100 p misss and then this year I kind of figured out when to be physical when not to be and then um going from there kind of got some confidence from the offensive side of the game too and I just thinking of throwing hand are hitting someone so I think just um I play on the edge is what I do best is that something you talk with your coaches about or just something you work through on your own how did you find that balance yeah I think my coaches help me a lot on that part um I think Ken uh Derek McKenzie they all kind of helped me throughout that that way and um I mean it’s worked out really well for me
