The Biggest WINNERS Of NHL Free Agency

the NHL free agency frenzy is pretty much over there’s hardly any ufas remaining and after a couple of exhausting days covering this I felt like it would be fun to go through seven teams who I feel had the best week when it comes to making signings or trades now these are not all teams that are going to compete for a Stanley Cup this year there are a few I added on to this that I feel like just really improved their roster from the last season so if you guys have been liking the content lately make sure you hit that subscribe button now and like this video helps you know when I post new videos and also pushes my content to other people and let’s get right into this one first team on my list is Chicago Blackhawks and some of you might be asking yourself well how does Chicago win the day they’re not going to be competing for a playoff spot anytime soon well let me explain the Chicago Blackhawks and their GM Kyle Davidson had a very tough goal to achieve this year right now they have their new generational Talent Connor Bard on his rookie contract and like some of the other players of the past like Sydney Crosby Conor David you really want to utilize the time where you have this kid on a very cheap deal so with that in mind the Chicago Blackhawks wanted to build a competitive team this year and in hopes of challenging for a playoff spot in the next two or three years I feel like a lot of these moves are going to be very impactful down the line so let’s talk about a couple of the moves that Davidson was able to make first they signed Tavo terrain to help on the power play and bring legit top six caliber scoring touch to this lineup terraining used to play for the Blackhawk so he’s familiar with the organization and his time with the Carolina Hurricanes was a bit up and down but I feel like the deal that they were able to sign him to and his age will really help Bard in these next upcoming years they also brought in another forward Tyler berui who should add a bit of that pest presence that we all know and love him for while also still giving them some good solid points in the second half of the year like he typically does Chicago wasn’t going to stop there yes they added the scoring touch that they needed but I feel like adding a few more veterans was crucial to this next step in the process and Chicago did exactly that adding veterans Craig Smith Pat maroon and Alex Martinez all to sort of round out their roster to help Bard in the next step of his career the last move that this team made was adding Lorent brasis from the Winnipeg Jets last year who had one of the best seasons of his career backing up Connor hug this then supplies him with a little bit more stability in net having the one-w punch of Peter morazzi and Lorent bruis and I just feel like all of these moves were really nice for Chicago giving the position that they’re in the past couple of years they’ve been a bottom of the league team and I think the tides are finally turning for Chicago all of these moves are pretty nice none of them will hamstring them financially I like this day for Chicago I think they had a solid belt all around guys every day I’m on my phone researching hockey to give you guys some content like this just trying to keep up to date with the sport and all of the stuff that continues to happen but you would not believe how many spam phone calls and texts that I get throughout the day I mean seriously I’ll be in the middle of researching a topic where I’ll get like four or five phone calls in a row just completely throwing off my vibe and I know one of the big reasons we get all these spam texts and calls is because big companies can’t keep our data safe recently Ticket Master was hacked and the data of 560 million users were put up for sale on the dark web the data stolen includes full names addresses email addresses phone numbers and credit card data at best this could just lead to a ton of spam and you could just be annoyed but at its very worst this could actually lead to fraud and what exactly is Ticket Master doing about this well honestly nothing they said they didn’t think the hack would have any material impact on an overall business so as a business they’re happily willing to collect our data but do nothing about it or protect us in any way that’s why I use Aura the sponsor of today’s video Aura alerts me when my data has been part of a data bre or leaked on the dark web it gives me fast fraud alerts if anyone tries to use that data to accet my credit card or my bank account and it also removes my information from the data broker websites so that way I get less spam I also get things like transaction monitoring a VPN antivirus parental controls and a password manager along with identity theft Insurance I get all of this in one app and at an incredibly affordable price if my info were compromised by Ticket Master in a data breach I wouldn’t worry because Aura is always on always doing the hard work and keeping me safe I’m not leaving myself or my family vulnerable to data breaches and if you don’t want to either you can go to aura.com jimy hockey and try your first two weeks for free I’ll also leave the link in the description for you guys to check out again thank you to Aura for sponsoring this video and let’s get right back into it next up is the Nashville Predators who had another aggressive off season this year with free agency signing taking a look back to last year’s off season they brought in Ryan O’Reilly Gustav Nyquist and Luke Shen then following it up this year they brought in some big headline players such as Steven Stam Co Jonathan marcheso and Brady Shay they also added UC Soros back to the roster on an 8-year extension as well as signing Scott Wedgewood to back him up in Ned this opens up a ton of opportunities for Nashville but let’s kind of talk about their offense real quick first Steven Stamkos is 34 years old Marsha so is 3 3 years old and Shay is 30 so they’re all a bunch of Veteran signings but what do all three of these guys have in common they all have played on some very successful playoff teams with some of these players reaching the Stanley Cup not even once but multiple times like Steven stamco all of these contracts will pay these players till they’re around the 38 37 age Mark which yes it feels like at that point they won’t really age too well but the quality of players that you signed with Steven stamp Co being an 80o player and marsho being around a 40 goal scorer these are invaluable pieces that will really help your young guys grow as they begin the early stages of their career I love these signings for Nashville because not only does it make them competitive now but it also helps their young guys learn how to be quality NHL players while playing alongside some of the League’s greatest superstars Nashville has a very solid roster this year and I think Barry trotz deserves a lot of credit for what he’s done with this team I think they’re all on some pretty good contracts and with what we saw last season this team should be incredible heading into next season and could potentially even win their division you never know next up is the New Jersey Devils and let’s start with their big off season splash of acquiring star goalie Jacob markstrom this was a much needed move for the New Jersey Devils they couldn’t buy themselves a save last year and that was literally their biggest Achilles heal going throughout the entire season and probably is a big reason why they didn’t make the playoffs the devil’s completely underachieved in the 2023 24 season but this offseason they’re looking to correct a lot of the flaws that we all noticed in this roster the next thing they did was really beef up their defensive unit by adding Brendan Dylan and Brett pesy to the squad and they also should be getting douge Hamilton back making their defense way more consistent than what we saw from last year again you’re also seeing Luke Hughes take another year under his belt and he should grow after being a Calder finalist in his rookie season the Devils also add a quality middle six guy in Stefon NOS which was a pretty sneaky good move as well for New Jersey I think these were all of the things that Devil’s fans were complaining about from last season so it is nice to see their GM Tom Fitzgerald actually address the issues that their fans were complaining about I love all of these moves for the Devils I think their defense is going to be more consistent they’re going to have a reliable guy in net and this is going to allow their forwards to play a little bit more carelessly getting the puck more towards the net than they were last season because they’re not going to be so worried about quick breakouts on the other end I love this for the devils and I think they’re going to be right back in the playoffs for the 2024 25 season next up the Toronto Maple Leafs again a team that you might be surprised to see on this list but I actually really like the moves that they made in the off season now I’m not all gung-ho about it I do think they need to add at least one more player to this team and I’ll talk about that as we go on but let’s just recap what the Maple Leafs did so far in the off season first the Maple Leafs decide to part ways with Tyler bruzi but they also do decide to bring back max doy on a 4-year extension the Big Splash that they made though was signing Chris tanov to a six-year deal worth around $27 million tanov is 34 years old so this might not age well with the contract ending when he’s 40 but I do think this is a necessary move for the Toronto Maple Leafs to make at this point Toronto is investing a ton of money into their core four players of Austin Matthews William neander Mitch Marner and John TZ and both TZ and marner’s contracts are both ending very soon meaning that this team has a very short window to capitalize on what this group has been building for the past few seasons so adding a guy like Chris tanv is very essential to beefing up your blue line and becoming more tough in the defensive end to help out guys who are more offensive Specialists like Morgan Riley who really thrive on the power play Not only this but they also add Oliver emman Larsson to really give them a bit more of a scoring touch on their power play if need be emman Larson really stepped up with the Florida Panthers this year winning a Stanley Cup and should be a nice addition to their blue line as well the Maple Leafs also add extensions for Joseph wall signing him to a three-year deal and they also bring back Timothy lilligren as well establishing their decor for the next season I like these moves for Toronto I do think they need to add one more defensive guy maybe a guy who’s a bit more shut down or brings that star power if you will but I love this for Toronto I think they’re going to be much better next season and way more structurally sound defensively than we’ve ever seen this team be with their core four of players next up the Tampa Bay Lightning a lot to talk about here I was going to put them as sort of a middle of the pack team because I didn’t like some of the moves that they made obviously I’m not a fan of them getting rid of Steven Stam Co I do think they could have come back with a at least a competitive offer signed him to at least like an 8-year $5 million contract but he’s in Nashville now so let’s forget about that their offseason losses they lose male sergachev Steven Stamkos and Tanner Jano but they bring in a big time Winger in Jake gensel who should immediately fill that hole that Steven stampco left gentel signs to a 7-year $63 million extension making 9 million a AV for the next seven years again I love this move I think gensel proved that he’s a quality Winger even when he’s not playing with Crosby in the playoffs with Carolina this year I don’t really like the loss of sergachev but I do feel like to free up some cap space Tampa really needed to do something and I also really appreciate the resigning that they gave Victor Hedman bringing him back on a 4-year deal with 8 million aav something they probably could have offered stamp codes considering that’s something he got with Nashville but again we’re not talking about that I was going to put them as kind of a middle of the pack team but I do think that this is kind of a new era for the Lightnings and I think that Jake gensel is going to fit in seamlessly with COV and Braden point I love these moves for Tampa Bay I think they’re going to be back in the mix of things again next season I’m very excited to see what this new look lightning is going to look like in the 2024 25 season next up the Boston Bruins they were heavily criticized last year for not having a quality Topline center after losing berson and CI to retirement and this offseason they finally do something about adding free agent forward Elias Lind Holmes who signs to a 7-year deal worth 54.2 million they also bring in an additional defenseman in Nikita zadorov who should be a huge addition to this team and add some more snarl to their blue line unfortunately with these additions comes a few losses the Bruins lose Jake de brusk to Vancouver on a seven-year deal and they also lose Danton Hein to Vancouver as well two players who really had some nice Seasons with Boston last year I do think these bosses will be a little bit tough for the Bruins to move on from but I think the additions really outweigh all of that and I love this Elias lindol signing for Boston next up the Edmonton Oilers so close but yet so far they lose in the Stanley Cup finals after almost coming back from three and I think that they really had some effective offseason moves so far once free agency opened up the Oilers were looking to add depth at the trade deadline bringing in Adam Henrik from a trade and rather than just letting him go on the market they make a good move by resigning him to a 2-year $6 million extension they also decide to extend Matas Yar Mark to a 3-year 4.35 million extension and Connor Brown is coming back on a one-year $1 million extension as well but the Edmonton Oilers weren’t done there they bring back Corey Perry on anothere contract making just over $1 million as well as bringing in a bit more secondary scoring by adding Victor arenson and Jeff Skinner the one thing they did lose was Warren fogal but if you outweigh all of the additions versus the loss here I think the Edmonton Oilers are in a much better position than they were at the beginning of last season they needed the depth they add some great players and I think that Skinner is going to be a huge underrated pickup for this team after his buyout with Buffalo the guy’s on a oneyear $3 million contract and had some pretty good numbers while playing with the Sabers let’s not forget that I think the Edmonton Oilers are going to be looking to come back big next season trying to get back to the cup and I think this offseason so far is a huge huge a for them I love these additions and I’m excited for this team next season as well but these are my seven winners from the NHL free agency sweep Stakes this year with everything pretty much wrapped up I think these are the teams who really made the biggest splash and impacts on 1. Like your free agency review but was expecting the Caps to be in there. Their new goalie core is exciting and the pickups on defense with offensive prowess should transition them into a more competitive team, albeit, fighting through a very tough Metro division. Looking for Caps youth to take another step forward this coming season.

  2. Lindholm isnt a #1 centre. He will get points, because he will be given every high leverage situation, and play with Pasternak. Doesnt carry play, needs star players. Two years, and two million/year too high.
