you look at what Luca accomplished he goes out there he puts up historic numbers numbers that we haven’t seen since Will Chamberlain from a guy who’s a big James Harden fan Harden never put up 3410 and n i mean those are just absolutely absurd numbers Harden also never went to the NBA finals as the number one option Luca beat the Clippers in the first round hard and was on that team he ended up beating the Thunder who were the one seed and then he beats the number one ring defense in basketball in the Minnesota Tims Luca was just putting up some crazy numbers that step back and go be the want to go defensive player of the year I mean Luca had a great run the only knock for Luca that I have is that he did run out of gas in the finals but it makes sense because nobody’s acts to do more for their team than Luca Donis and Kyrie certainly was a big time Edition he took a lot of the pressure off of him but Luca just night in night out the ball is in his hands more than anyone else he’s act to make the right decision to score efficiently to set up open teammates and yeah absolutely I thought Dallas put together a great roster after the deadline they were one of the best teams in the league they were Elite defensively they were scoring the lights out of the basketball but overall they didn’t have enough Talent which is why this offseason they had to make some big time moves they go out there and they get Quinton Grimes they go out there and they get Klay Thompson they go out there and they get na Marshall overall the Mavs are going to be significantly better next season than they were this season and they just went to the finals the Boston Celtics were top five in offense and defense they were the only team to do that they had a lot of talent before Dallas they were competing with them right there were some close necking neck games but ultimately what it came down to was the Mavs just didn’t have enough but this time around they believe that they do and a lot of that has to be credited towards their Jon manager who has done just a phenomenal job this season and and Nico Harrison he went out and he got Daniel Gafford at the trade deadline he went out and he got PJ Washington at the trade deadline of course he traded for Kyrie Irving you put all these moves together that’s how you build a championship roster and the maps are always going to have the best player on the court no matter who they go up against it doesn’t matter if it’s Giannis doesn’t matter if it’s joic right LeBron James I know was 40 to this point but still Luca is always going to be the best player in that series which is a huge Advantage but now it’s up to the Mavs to put him in a situation where he has more Shooters around him because the Mavs could not knock down threes open or contest it against the Celtics in the playoffs and they just completely were abandoning at times and in today’s NBA you’ve got to be able to shoot a lot of Threes you’ve got to be able to make them especially Boston they were number one in threes so that makes sense why the Mavs did not win that series but overall to me if I’m starting a franchise with one player right now it’s Luca donit I wouldn’t even think about it I get that wemi for the future maybe will’ll be better than Luca but in terms of right now I just saw a guy who from a talent perspective is the best in the league but it’s also from a statistical standpoint Luca was a plus 14.4 from December 23rd through April 14th that’s his on andof net rating that’s just ridiculous overall in the season he was a 9.4 you can see Luca took his game to a different level this year in terms of winning we’ve always known that Luca was talented but the question is can he get to the finals right can he win the finals and Luka proed that I mean if he can go through the teams that he went through in the first round and then of course go at Boston I mean I think Luka can do anything so these new additions to me will be able to put Dallas over the top and just make sure that they’re able to keep up with the rest of the Western Conference which is as deep as it’s really ever been the West I feel like the West has always been good but right now there’s legit probably 12 teams in the west that can compete right there’s not like 12 Championship contenders obviously but there’s 12 teams that are are very difficult right the Kings last season did not make the playoffs they got the Rosen and then of course you’ve got a team like the Memphis Grizzlies who were pretty bad but Jaws healthy they got drafted Zack Ed so there’s just going to be a lot of challenges but the Mavericks they won 50 games in the west and they got better so I’m super excited of course after the Trad line is when the MAV started to turn up they went from 15th to fifth in net rating they improved from 18th in defensive rating to seventh a lot of that had to do with of course Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington also Derek Lively was electric for them the rookie out of Duke Lively only played in 55 games due to injuries he was named to the all rookie second team it’s just not often you see rookies be able to contribute to winning on playoff teams but Lively certainly did that and another thing is that donz was making 40 million Kyrie was making 43 million that was nearly half of the team’s 17 3 million payroll so having a guy in a rookie contract produced like Lively was big time and overall donet and Irving scored 1,22 points in the playoff run which was the M by two teammates in an NBA postseason history Kyrie at 32 average 26 and shot 41% from three-point range it wasn’t long ago where people were complaining about Luca and Kyrie’s fit together I remember there was a press conference with Jason kid where he was just essentially about it and he ended up walking out well we’re only into this year we can’t go back to last year right like that’s the problem have a good night I think overall the loss is only going to make Dallas better mentally right mentally is the biggest thing everyone talks about the physical talent but what about the mental side of it right Boston had been competing year after year in the playoffs and now we got to see Luca and Kyrie remember they were in the Ludy last season that’s how they got Lively so I’m excited about it uh talking about these new additions I mean Klay Thompson to me he’s not the biggest addition to the roster I think he’s the most exciting because he’s a guy that’s won four championships and he’s one of the best shooters ever the reason why I like Klay on this team is because nobody the past three seasons has taken more spot up threes than clay he shot 39% from three last season in 77 games he shot 41% from three the year before that so we know Clay can knocked down shots he also took the six most difficult threes in basketball which says that that hey look clay he’s shooting 39% taking difficult shots what’s going to happen when he’s wide open in the corner off of a Luca and gaford picking roll right or Kyrie finds him so I mean yeah like I said it’s exciting Clay is what 34 to this point he’s not the best offender that’s why I’m not saying he’s the the biggest addition of the team he’s an amazing addition because of his ability to shoot and his experience Overall winning championships but the biggest addition to me that the Mavericks have made this offseason is without question Naji Marshall the reason why like Marshall is because he’s a smart player he can handle the basketball which means he can create for others nobody last season on the Mavericks could create outside of Luca and Kyrie so when those guys were off they had no chance to win shot 38.7% from three which was a career best he shot 39.6% on catch and shoot attempts 134 of them on open shots which is classified as 4 to6 feet of space he shot 54 of 109 which is 49.5% and a wide open shots which is six plus feet of space he shot 43% on 100 attempts right so 43 of 100 so you have a guy who can pass who can shoot he also defended the opposing team’s best player often at times right now of course yeah I’m not going to leave out the fact that herb Jones is one of the best defenders in the league was on the Pelicans but the numbers don’t really exactly lie it was clear that when Marshall was on the floor for the Pelicans they were a significantly better defensive team think the same thing is going to happen to the Mavericks because we have to understand that Derek Jones Jr was an amazing Defender he ended up leaving to go to the Clippers in free agency but the difference between Marshall and a guy like for example dere Jones Jr is that Jones Couldn’t Shoot he was 34.3% from three last season he essentially at times was unplayable in the finals because Boston found a way to exploit him on that side of the ball Marshall’s an upgrade he’s a better shooter defensively I don’t think he’s that much worse than Jones he’s not better but he’s not much worse I would sacrifice some defense for a lot better offense and shooting and then honestly a wild card is going to be Quinton Grimes as a Knicks fan myself I’m looking at Grimes who is making significantly less money than Tim herway Jr he’s significantly younger and he’s probably just as good of a shooter I mean Grimes is a 38% career three-point shooter he’s a guy that can defend as well so now you have another weapon on the wing that can defend some of these tough players so if you do go up against Boston again in the finals you have Grimes to throw at a guy like a Jason Tatum or a Jaylen Brown if you look at two years ago in the playoffs when the Knicks and the heat faed off each other the semis Grimes was defending Jimmy Butler he actually did an elite job of it so if you can defend Jimmy Butler you can probably defend Jaylen Brown I know jayen Brown’s better but again playoff Jimmy was no joke that season he beat the Bucks in the first round right remember beat the Celtics to in the Easter conf finals so the Knicks were the one team that actually made it difficult on Jimmy and a lot of that was to do with pretty much all of it was to do with Quint and grime so I’m excited to paraphrase this video the Dallas Mavericks got significantly better and I’m so excited to see what they’re going to do next season guys it’s your boy swagy signing out he
