our Magic eightball currently waiting in the green room right now to join us yeah the the actual magic gateball um we’re here to to ask this question to start the day uh there’s a lot of of um final offseason grades for the canes right the the powers that be the athletic ESPN they’re starting to to judge everyone’s offseason because for the most part the hay is in the barn right for the most part the work is done and and we remembered that if you go back what was about six weeks ago six weeks ago yeah we had before any decision was made before any move was made before any deal was signed before any long time Kane stalwart had left we asked a magic eightball what to do with each of the big decisions yeah we did so now that the the everything is concluded I thought we thought uh we would go back and we would say which off season would you rather have the one that we actually just witnessed the reality timeline like the the real thing that happened or the one that the magic gate ball predicted would happen the one that the magic G ball if named the GM would have done so uh without further Ado Dennis let’s go through some of the the bigger decisions that the canes had have to make and what the G the GM magic eightball said would happen that well the first one was Jake kensel Jake kensel is he coming back we asked a ball War he said ask me later which there was a lot of patience in that situation also maybe too much we came back later and asked Jake canel come check with me again I I feel like so we had to get to a third timee with the agic a ball and then he eventually said no I feel like that rang out true that’s almost exactly how exactly how it happened the magic eightball told us exactly what was going to happen with Jake gensel and predicted it perfectly and to to be honest it uh it did kind of even bring like the Hope back with all it was like even the emotions of it were just condensed it was all run so so Jake gel’s gone I remember being upset at the magic eightball at that time going like no there’s no way we we need Jake gel’s priority uh turns out he he or she I don’t know the magic eight ball it the ball it was uh in line with with the future GM in front office of the canes what else we have all right so then Tavo Terra vinan we asked about Tavo Terra Vin said better not tell you now and then eventually said yeah Tavo Terra Vance’s going to be coming back absolutely magic aall clearly wrong I think I’d rather have the real reality version I I’d like to have Tavo back but but opportunity cost and everything and how much he ended up getting paid uh I think it’s it I’d rather I’m glad the G the gm8 ball was wrong what else gm8 ball we asked what about Brady Shay Brady Shay coming back magic aall said it is decidedly so this this is where it got interesting go ahead go with the next one too because I think it’s then said Brett pesy or Brett peshi coming back magic aall said without a doubt this is where it’s interesting this is the big difference this is where you have to ask yourself would you rather have gm8 ball or would you rather have what actually played out because neither timeline has Jake gensel coming back but the magic G ball had the two high- price defensemen both returning to the Carolina hurricanes would have come on probably 11 or 12 million per year total uh instead they went and got a couple of Cheaper options for you know what was it 6 and a half million combined to replace them 6.8 6.8 there you go uh this is what it comes down to and is it insulting to say I I kind of wish the the eightball was right maybe I kind of wish the eightball had more power in this situation I kind of wish the eightball had more influence because if you’re if you’re not bringing back Tavo if you’re not bringing back Jake gensel uh there’s there’s some opportunity there to spend some money on the on the defense even though I like what they ended up doing with the defense I I I kind of liked what they did ended up doing with the defense if that means you take care of some things with the forwards it just didn’t really happen uh were there any other questions we asked that we can review we did we asked Stephan n coming back and it just said flat out yes and this is where I’m now having my own Deja Vu uh this is where I realized that the magic eightball loves longtime canes clearly the magic eightball is loyal to a fault well we also asked about Jordan martinook and at first it said pretty hazy and then eventually said yes that’s exactly kind of how it played out things were kind of hazy wasn’t sure if Jordan martinook was coming back and then all of a sudden just for free agency boom Jordan martinook is returning that’s another one though the magic eightball is loyal to a fault and if you’re loyal to kanes you’re going to be loyal to Jordan martinook we also asked about Jaylen Chatfield magic G ball said Outlook not so good he now he is coming back I like that version but we thought based off of okay if Shay and peshi aren’t coming back according to the magic a ball well then you you maybe have to bring up a rookie to on a cheap contract Scott Scott morrow or whomever and maybe like there’s the reason why you can’t keep Jay and Chatfield there are certain aspects of the offseason plan that I can explain away better for the the magic eightball than for what actually happened by the way we did ask the magic eightball a couple other questions including is Martin NES going to get traded and he said yes and you asked to a Western Conference Team it also said yes and we also asked is a long-term deal going to get done with set Jarvis magic eightball also said yes we also asked the magic eightball is Eric tolsky going to be the general manager and also said yes so it’s got It’s been it’s good batting average it’s not it’s not batting 100 but it’s or bat ,000 but it’s it’s it’s up there but we also asked do you know how salary caps work magic eightball and I was like yes of course I do it really doesn’t though but it doesn’t no way all with all those players coming back or maybe the magic eightball is just wildly convincing maybe and persuasive and was going like some actual GMS yeah like let’s be honest here although they’re not wildly loyal they just expect wild loyalty well there’s that too in return they cut you as soon as they can but then expect you to take half the price to St stick around um as far as the Cane’s offseason goes ESPN gave it a c minus that’s the real version not the uh eightball version a c minus now I actually don’t hate the number the like the letter grade C sees get degrees by the way you’re passing uh I don’t like their justification at all if you read the justification for why the canes received a c minus in their off season I’ll read some of it Carolina stood Pat with their goal tending too while failing to chase down any of the top net minders available in trade who could have provided Insurance behind Frederick Anderson and his injury history now I think the can’s had a lot of things on their to-do list this offseason and maybe even you know goenda hurt for three and a half months last year and they had the hurricane that’s literally what it said they wrote but hey but hey which just adds a littleit bit of snark but hey the the Hurricanes got a third round pick from Tampa Bay for gel’s signing rights and that’s about the best move they’ve made all spring that’s that’s snarky mean I don’t think anything that has to do with gensel leaving was the best move they made all spring getting a third round pick college football season here’s a question that is like if you are a old school college football where you want your players to get a tear in their eye when they hear the MMA Mater when you want them like uh the the starting running back to be going to the arrival school to kidnap the mascot because that’s how it was done when the The Beach Boys were singing be true to your school you’re not going to like this very much how long until there’s a cap in college football we went from players can’t get paid to talking salary cap and you may say well why are you bringing it up now there you go uh why are you bringing it up now why are you ruining my fun Adam Scher is reporting that the University of Oklahoma meaning like the Sooners the college uh Athletics program SEC Powerhouse there you go still weird University of Oklahoma Department this according to Sher will work with former Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg and his consulting firm the athlete group to advise on their impending transition to the quote salary cap era of College athletics pers shter sources the salary cap era the Sal like that’s a that’s an NFL term that’s an NFL term that’s that’s not even a Major League base term they don’t have one of those basketball has they call them aprons I don’t I don’t it’s I don’t completely understand how can you put a college football salary cap in here’s my question as to why because there are a whole bunch of schools that aren’t going to be able to spend what the salary cap is I assume they going to put a salary cap floor in where’s the the revenue sharing how much goes between schools and more importantly this why would the rich schools ever agree to this I think it’s all part of that settlement that the NCAA signed with the lawsuit because they said like there’s like a cap on how much like what up to $20 million a school can spend yes to pay players like maybe that’s your quote unquote cap but that doesn’t in include Collective money so okay is this just a cap on how much the individual school like the actual like from the universities can pay because that’s a completely different beast and then it sounds like you’re just letting the schools off the hook and making the fans continue to pay for the player Sal which is what’s happening now um which is I think messed up by the way the way that like all the schools and like the coaches basically have to shame the player or the the fans into paying the players right because to be competitive you have to have a healthy Collective and to have a healthy Collective you have to have fans putting money into the collective so coaches essentially have to go like if you want to win you got to just give us money and that doesn’t feel right especially when the universities are collecting I mean we can we can go into the the economics of how crazy tuition is right they all these endowments the schools are standing on and they’re going like we we’re not allowed to pay you the fans have to that doesn’t seem right so if you’re a rich school and eventually I assume schools are going to be able to pay the players whatever they want to pay why would you agree to like Tamp your advantage like no we have billions of dollars why would we agree to only pay this the players 20 million when we can pay 40 and a bunch of other schools can’t which is going to make our team better right there there’s for the same reason like you know Alabama I I always use this example because I know the number off the top of my head Alabama has a $288 million football facility why in the world would Alabama ever agree like hey you know what we should put a cap on $100 million for every football facility just to level the playing field why would they ever do that so why would they agree to it with a salary cap and you may be saying what if they don’t agree trust me Alabama’s vote matters the rich schools votes matter in those type like the sec’s votes matter the Big 10 votes matter why because money money money money we know what that is here’s what the NCAA has done wrong so many darn times they let the toothpaste out of the tube right and there’s no collective bargaining that you can do to dial it back once it’s out there it’s out there right once you start letting players transfer what happened when they tried to stop the transferring from happening right they had a little period where it was like transfer wherever you want whenever you want then they tried to crack back remember the TZ Walker situation they tried to crack back with like well you can transfer once and then the second time you need waivers and we’re going to limit it the toothpaste was out of the tube the world revolted and within what four five 6 months whatever it was they’re back to like transfer as many times as you want as long as you’re getting good academic standing I don’t know you can’t play for two different teams six days apart that’s what like they had to dial it back because you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube teams are already spending different amounts of money on their team how do you bring that back to everybody spends the same amount now how there’s contract signed right all this name Imaging Collective and everything else there’s stuff signed can’t walk it back the NCAA much like I think uh the ACC much like I think anytime you have like a a broad decision-making group if you’re not extremely proactive you’re going to be reacting and you’re going to find yourself in a tough spot and now the teams are already hiring salary cap specialists Oklahoma’s Progressive Oklahoma’s season and that’s just like I’m not that’s the way it goes that’s the era we’re in and so you have to just be ready to attack those things and um in real time tampering is a thing in college sports it just is now take it into your own hands right you used to not have to worry about players leaving your program because they weren’t really allowed to leave your program once you’re aware of it which obviously John Shire is right he just talked about it about as matter of factly as you could possibly talk about it like yeah all seven of our guys tampered with a guys guys hit the portal they go to a visit they commit like a day later obviously tampering going on it happens once you’re aware of it you can play defense here’s what I know is not going to happen NCAA isn’t going to do anything oh no not at all so so you can like this was not sh you know trying to put the the the word out like somebody’s got to do something about this they should look into these seven schools that took players from me it was not that it was just him talking the NCAA is not going to do anything about it don’t expect it right it’s it’s like when when you and your sibling are fighting in the back room and you’re like I’mma go tell Mom or I’m going to go tell Dad and you just know like we’re both back here fighting what do you think’s going to happen they’re not going to do anything not going to punish one of us and not the other of us right you don’t go crying to the NCAA cuz they’re not going to do anything you have to play defense with your own players in every way you can right expect them to be tampered with especially if you play basketball in the ACC because your players are Mighty attractive to just about every other program like it’s not like Duke’s player like you know I’ve told this before but I I played at football at the University of Delaware we used to get transfers from all over the place right and usually that meant they weren’t playing at their other place or they weren’t attractive to uh whatever place they were they they were this is not the case Duke lost seven players they went to Ohio State Baylor Virginia Missouri Stanford Clemson and Virginia Tech those players had options right those players were desirable so if you’re going to load your roster up with desirable players which Duke will and every ACC team will you better be prepared I’m calling it play defense the the the real thing I’m talking about is making sure they’re seeing value in being in your program everyone’s going to be tampered with which means they’re going to have a choice to make right they’re going to know that if they hit the portal schools like Ohio State and Baylor and Virginia and Missouri would be waiting there to welcome them so you have to make sure they choose Duke or whatever school if it’s North Carolina you have to make sure they choose your school even if they’re not getting all of the shots right even if they’re not the leading scorer even if they’re coming off the bench they still have to choose you each and every off season I’ve used the term re-recruit constantly be re-recruiting your players do you know what actually surprised me the most right he said all seven Jeremy roach was getting tampered with if you need a better example of everyone in the gosh darn country is being tampered with tampering with Jeremy roach is wild he was a four-year starter at Duke if he is being tampered with You’re darn sure going to have your Sixth Man being tampered with your your TJ Powers right you’re you’re highly recruited guys that weren’t playing many minutes a four-year starter with one year of Eligibility was being tampered with who could have gone pro if he wanted to could have been making a nice living in a bunch of different ways could have made a big living stand at Duke could have could have made a nice living stand right there like it is it is the ultimate like I’m G to call just to see right I’m I’m just like that’s how unafraid teams are from whatever the NCAA can do with tampering and they screed around the rules yeah yeah talk your high school coach by like do you know any point guards that might be out there who might be 62 who might have a lot of experience in a power conference hey uh do you have any like go to one of your players do you maybe happen have a former aaou teammate that you played with that happens to be I don’t know out of power five school that might be looking to get some playing time somewhere else yeah might be looking for a change of pace I mean if that happens just you know let us know it’s it’s and even like that technically even that is technically against the rules but it’ll never be able to be proven prove it uh it’s it’s like you’re willing to risk it for Jeremy roach who by the way from the outside looked like he was a Duke lifer right let’s just call spade a spade when you start there for four years he’s passed up leaving to return and Chase national championships and everything if you’re willing to to risk it to be like ah let’s see if this guy will move on I mean it has to get to the point it probably already has where you know if you’re on national television first test for a team that had like four practices before they they went into this exhibition in Vegas and do you know what I I watched the first half and by the way it was ugly offensive half but that plays into my point here do you know what Team USA this year’s Team USA is showing about the best players in the world and oh I I’ve upset the old-timers a few times today talking about salary cap in college football talking about transfer portal and tampering the the old guard of sports is going to be mad at me I’m about to get them all back right here do you know what Team USA is showing defense matters and the best the alltimers are partially all-timers because of their defense this year’s Team USA is the best Team USA men’s basketball team in a while right as far as like getting their first picks you can tell they weren’t turned down often right they didn’t offer many guys like hey do you want to be on Team USA and they got the no in the past there’s been a lot of NOS right Steph Curry this is his first Olympics you know he was asked for previous Olympics like there there’s been a lot of turning down the offer this year I don’t think there was I think they put together the team they want which is why you look around and outside of Derek white who just got got put on the the roster um I think they’re pretty much all Hall of Famers like these are the players that are going to define the era in college basketball five or six of them already have defined an era in or not College excuse me pro basketball and the the biggest difference between watching like last Olympic team or some of these feba teams for Team USA that get beat and watching this one is they they bring defense the defense is the difference between the 12 players you would pick first team to to make a A Team USA and the 12 players who are up next right between the 10 best players the Inner Circle Hall of Famers the finding of a of a generation and the other guys that are you know five time Allstars the difference is the other side of the ball right if you had to and I I say settle in like a like a weird way if you had to settle for the next tier down they could still score I don’t think they could do what they did against Team Canada last night which is they couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn and they just decided Canada wasn’t going to be able to get anything they wanted Shay guildas Alexander is an MVP he’s an MVP candidate at least could not get anything going Dylan Brooks uh during the FBA whatever that tournament was uh a year ago had like 30 something points against Team USA could not get anything going against uh the the the Team USA last night they bullied Canada Anthony Davis is a great defender Drew holiday is a great defender that’s like known right bamat bio is a great defender he’s on the team that’s known you know what was wildly impressive what’s that like you put LeBron and Steph and those guys who aren’t maybe seen as the Defenders they once were or ever really like a all NBA Defensive guy uh you put them around those other guys they know they just know how to make it work they’re just team defense is unreal they can take so much advantage of having those other Elite defensive players on the floor because they’re just basketball Savant I have to admit like since the redeemed team there’s always a little bit of like I don’t know about this I don’t know about this Olympic Squad here right like there’s a chance they get upset last last Olympics they lost a game in in group play this one I’m like oh I think they can win the whole thing every game even if they play bad because they’ll just lean on their defense at least that’s what I took away from the first game at least that’s what I took away from uh the first exhibition I think they have five more they’re going to like Abu Dhabi or something next going on a whole tour uh defense travels we’ll see if it plays yeah plus NB or NBA rules and feea rules are different like they’re different rules when it comes to go tending they different rules like with with a lot of different stuff which is one of the funnier things embiid fouled out in like 12 minutes yeah which means somebody told him like you can be more physical in FEA he was like deal boom bam all right never mind should not have told him be to be more physical everybody else you can be a little bit more handsy and be go back to playing NBA Style defense he literally had like Five Points five rebounds 12 minutes five fouls the triple five and just like so imagine how good their defense was and they had one seven-footer that like couldn’t really do much because he was just fouling every time and they didn’t have KD and they didn’t have Derrik white who just joined the team who’s an elite Defender and KD is another seven-footer their defense is going to be swarming the drive with Tim Donnelly 999 the fan which side note does make what Cooper flag was is doing even more impressive cuz you watched that defense lock up and NBA lineup in Canada and in those select games he was getting his shot off just saying uh Tim Donnelly or uh the drive with Tim Donnell here on 999 the fan uh quickly here we do have to talk about what is easily the craziest thing that came across my timeline last night the what what is it the Copa Copa America Copa America semi-finals were taking place in Charlotte it was Uruguay or Uruguay and Columbia yep that Bank of America Stadium where the Panthers play and here’s the crazy part I probably saw 200 tweets with video about the game about the events that took place at the game I don’t know who won Columbia won nothing Columbia won one nothing they played the second half down a player they played the second half down a player yeah there are seven cards including one red well that probably we talk about here it’s the craziest thing that came across my timeline there was a lot of chippiness side note that’s the wildest thing about uh soccer that they just get like a power play and it just goes the rest of the game yeah that is absurd to me no five minute Majors here no it’s just no match penalty you’re gone your team just your team’s out there just mumbling under their breath how much they hit you for making that decision for the rest of the game um but maybe they they all should have been thrown out because after was it after the game mhm after the game a urgu player I guess multiple well I just wanted to make sure I had the team right cuz Kia won so they wouldn’t be that mad a Uruguay player went into the stands and multiple did to involve themselves in what we are calling the brawl at the bank the brawl at Bank of America players fans fans on fans players trying to break it up there was a fight in the stands involving both players and fans this is malice at the palace ronard test only at the middle of it it wasn’t Ron our test it was some guy named Darwin who was two-piece in people yeah he was hitting Combos and and pump faking on others almost like he got halfway through his punch and went actually I don’t know if you’re the one that said something or did something so he would stop that person would Flinch and he’d pop someone else this was an aggressive fight there were different angles people that were in the section were videoing going like oh my goodness there were actual your players from Uruguay actually throwing stuff from the field at like at like the Columbia fans and just it was wild it was it was absolutely crazy people often times ask you know oh how crazy would it be if during the malice of the palace there were social media last night that was it that was it and I’m sure it’s it you know to for us to fully get it You’ have to go look at like Uruguayan social media right because there’s just not a ton of basketball’s bigger than soccer here so it would have been even bigger news but it was crazy Carol and you know what people say like when you go to a European or an international soccer match you do kind of have to have your head on a swivel because you never know what kind of violence can pop off Carolina I guess lived up to international soccer there apparently it did there was actually other videos floating around where even in the upper deck there were like scrums and scuffles between between fans and all that stuff taking place now probably would say looking at like the outside in like a full Stadium View 80% of it were Colombian y fans like it was a ton of yellow out there so it’s mostly Colombian fans these players were like Spartan Warriors against they’re going up against 80% of Bank of America Stadium just just one Haymaker at a time um but you like you see it and and I’ve always said one of the things I’d like to do from like a sports perspective is go like immerse myself in a European soccer game and like somehow have like the Tor guide of like a dieh hard fan for one of those crazy teams and get the scarf and do the chance just looks like a blast but every once in a while you see those videos and you realize there’s like chain link fences between the like you don’t enter there’s no Crossover at all between your fans like if you’re a fan of the home team you enter to a different gate there’s no way for you to walk to the other side like there’s there’s like fences between you and you recognize at a night like last night where you see it get carried away why those precautions are taken right sometimes you see them doing the chance and stuff and there’s like foul balln Nets you know what I’m talking about over their heads to prevent them from throwing things onto the pitch I maybe you need him to stop things being thrown from the pitch up to up to into the stands and people wonder why when you go to a sporting event where like if you buy a beer and they crack the Canon they pour it into a cup and like so prevent those kinds of things or if you get a water bottle or whatever it is they take the cap off and hand it to you it’s to prevent you from throwing weighted objects at people or players so if you throw it all the liquids will fall out while in in the air and then it won’t be a weighted projectile when it reaches wherever you were throwing it um crazy scene crazy scene soccer is is I think it’s because there’s so little scoring you your intensity builds up and you never get the release I let say this haven’t watched part of the game and caught caught some parts of it the chippiness on the field I think also escalated what was going on in the stadium too I used this example earlier it’s Happy Gilmore right so he got mad at you and he punched Bob Barker oh that’s great right that’s Shooter McGavin talking to the oh this is good you will not make this putt guy right so so he got mad at you and he punched Bob Barker it’s kind of like so he got mad at the refs and the Colombian team and he punched the Colombian fans oh this is better like it’s it’s only it’s not better it’s worse but you know not played for comedic effect with uh Shooter McGavin uh it is wild and obviously I guess we should probably do like the disclaimer uh it’s bad it should not happen don’t do it if you’re a fan of the place don’t fight uh it’s never worth it you look foolish doesn’t make you look cool players don’t fight fans although I have heard a pretty good argument that every professional athlete should be allowed to fight one fan a year and it’s like after the game you just get to kind of like walk to the mic and say like I’m going to be using my one fight right now will that guy in the league according to the survey takers uh Brian Burns former Panther was the 10th best Edge rusher in the NFL according to the survey takers the safeties came out earlier today so they put out the list of the top 10 safeties then they added on those that were close then they had just the kind of the fine print players that also received votes and I realized that’s probably the second third best chance for a panther to re end up on a uh defensive side of the football top 10 list with Xavier Woods so I I I wasn’t expecting him to be top 10 but I was like I should check right it’s my job to cover the Panthers let’s be thorough here so I click on the link and I go through the top 10 and I don’t see Xavier Wood’s name and I’m like all right probably shouldn’t known makes sense yeah then I go let me see if he’s in the next group let me see if he’s in that like uh these guys got close group and I clicked on and nope not in there I was like well certainly somebody some exec some coach somebody that’s worked with them in the past somebody that he had a great game against somebody gave him at least one vote and I looked through it and they were not there there were 25 players that the line let’s say week seven right you won three games early but then you you’re on a two- game losing streak and it feels like you’re at a Tipping Point right you’re either going to turn your season next I think it has to be Xavier Woods I think it has to be like that’s the guy you’d want to be put in the playmaking decision in the in the the kind of Pivot Point position that the whole play is going to fall on and he’s not even one of the 25 best on his on his team I thought this might be uh fun but it the the real answer is it might be depressing uh I brought up the depth chart for the San Francisco 49ers Leonard Floyd Javon hardgrave Nick Bosa Dre Greenlaw Fred Warner travarius Ward talanoa hunga I think I would be comfortable with any of them having the like the game come down to a play they have to make pretty much also somebody should let them know thator gross MTO should probably be uh not the direct backup to Nick Bosa I’m just looking at that now thinking you know maybe you never mind uh he didn’t do much for the Panther is what I’m saying no not really uh there would be a steep drop off in production uh but there’s I mean there’s like a great defense has like eight or nine guys that you’re confident will make the play if it’s presented to them right because defense is different than offense offense if you have one dude and you need a play made by the offense you can tell your quarterback throw it to him if he’s if he’s triple team they throw it to him if it’s a running back hand it to him right like you can guarantee your guys if it’s an offensive lineman we’re running Dive Right up his backside like that’s that’s what you can do on defense it’s kind of like well right the it’s the whole like uh SCE Gardener has like two interceptions and people hold it against him and I’m like no actually it’s the little amount of time that he’s tested that tells you how good he is because teams can choose whether or not he gets an opportunity to get his hands on the ball so JC horn might be great all that means is there’s not going to be a single critical play where JC horn is the guy being uh tested because why would you when you canest Jordan Fuller or you canest Dane Jackson or you canest Troy Hill Xavier Woods doesn’t have the respect of the rest of the league he’s going to get tested how comfortable are you with him being in that position again quarterbacks know this like depth charts matter do you know what was uh my freshman year I was a true freshman walk-on backup quarterback so they gave me the real big op you know a lot of responsibility put on my shoulders one thing they told me was they wanted me to know the backup safeties and what they were good and bad at if we knew it at Delaware like what you know who to take advantage of so basically it was like oh 22 got hurt 37’s coming in he’s got stiff hips try to make him turn like that was that was my entire job that was moves let’s go yeah exactly it was it was uh so and so thinks he’s a big hitter he’s going to try to come down on on you know play action whatever it was that was my my big job early in the season well like guess what the the occasionally actually never really it was FCS backup safeties there was never anyone like o don’t test them but in the NFL you’re going to know who to test and who not to test in big moments the Panthers have like three guys that I think the other teams are going to go yeah probably not and then there’s going to be eight guys with targets instead of jersey numbers it’s going to be like wherever else you want to go Dealers Choice quarterback like that fourth best guy might be asan Robinson another interior lineman could be as Rob let’s not run up the middle because you got Derrik Brown and asan Robinson yeah and there Clowny over there run that way run towards yeah the other side uh it’s just it’s there’s a world where the Panther’s offense is greatly improved and the Panthers defense makes it irrelevant MH because they like sliding scale for as much as the offense improves the defense will uh take a step back and I think that’s kind of intentional right because so much and not intentional like they got worse I’m just saying intentional like they’ve moved resources from the defensive side of the ball to the offensive side of the ball there was a focus I think there’s much more confidence in what if your fourth best playmaker on offense has to make a play and much less confidence in what if your fourth best defensive player has to make a play and and the reason why that decision was made like you said choices were made is because your entire franchise is riding on Bryce young figuring it out so they moved their resources to help him figure it out and now they’re going to look at Edo evero their their defensive coordinator and say do what you can my man like duct tape in and smoking mirrors right call a trick play I don’t know do do do what you got to do but it’s it’s tough when you confidence we’re kicking at old school today we’re going hurac and cons right sometimes summer you get creative and our confidence and concerns been a b about a bunch of different things we’re just going canes with it what are you most confident in what are you most concerned about when it comes to the Carolina Hurricanes uh I I overthought it as I always do Dennis uh so I’ve two categories I have my hockey confidence and concerns no I should have explained this better I have like my hockey answers for confidence and concerns and then like my locker room answers for confidence and concerns um as always we have good news and bad news let’s go bad news first because that’s what you always answer uh I’ll start with uh my hockey concern if you listen to the show you will not be surprised by what I’m about to say the second line of forwards I am concerned with first of all who’s it going to be second of all who’s going to score the goals so once you decide which three are going to go there especially if the roster remains as constructed right now uh I need to know who’s going to be skating with the second line and then my next question is because I don’t see a ton of goal scorers in the options who is gonna score the goals on that line that’s one of my biggest concerns and and like I can I can bring up uh let’s see here daily face off and they kind of predict who the lines are going to be uh they have fetch AO and Jarvis Top Line makes sense yeah second line roslovic ketov and n okay interesting I guess NES would be the the the finisher there yeah I just that second line is it’s concerning to me and this isn’t new I’ve been saying it for like two weeks now uh so there’s my concern I I I’m worried about who’s going to score the goals when that first line is not on the ice and by by by the way you’re always going to have that concern about like a fourth line uh you know if you just have you know 30 goal scores on your fourth line then yeah yeah theying of an All-Star team yeah go go ahead and and start dusting off a place on your mantle for the cup um that third line as we call it even though it’s kind of its own category the stall line is what we’ve we’ve referred to it as what Rod calls it too uh that is they might not be scoring goals but they’re all about not giving up goals as well they’re just you know some of the best defensive forwards and best defensive forward play in the league it’s that second line where it’s like you really need you need to get some production there you need to get some points and and I just I’m concerned that it’s not there what are you concerned about um kind of a little bit more specific on that note for my concern is who’s actually going to be that second Center who’s actually going to grab that who’s actually going to take that spot is it going to be K nits off that you traded for at the trade deadline last year is yesb KMI going to actually live up to the money that you’re being paid right now that’s the big question he’s getting paid over just over 4.8 million bucks a year he’s being paid to be your number two Center to be a goal scorer to to be a to be on the score sheet on more nights than not he has not done that yet would you agree there’s four candidates for second team center it’s with ketov jury kinami and maybe roslovic yeah I mean roslovic maybe I would say honestly it’s three okay I honestly it’s three um I wasn’t even confident as I said it yeah I that’s the way I see it as of right now but in reality you would want probably Drury to be your fourth I think that’s Weir you want stall to being your bottom six as well as that lock down guy obviously AO is your number one kokami and KET off the reason why they weren’t that number two Center last year is because they weren’t performing super great in that role that’s the reason why Jack try had to play up on the line with Martin hes and and Jordan martinook he was forced into that spot that’s kind of what I was getting at with with roslovic like if jury is there it’s by default it means Rod kind of throws his hands in the air and goes like I guess it’s jury right yeah was like because he he trusts jury defens can play in multiple situations would you try Roz before you try jury maybe for the reason of you like jury in the kind of captaining that fourth line I don’t know if I would necessarily put him there I would probably more if you’re putting Jack jury up there it’s probably rosic might be your fourth Center in that case or at least on the ice to take right handed face off in Z you got got to find another Winger for the second line that’s kind of the situation this like so yeah who’s that number two Center it they have not had one since Vincent tro you’re going to open up that wound are you it’s a fact they not have one since vinent troch and they thought they did with kokami hasn’t been the case let me ask you if you’ve experienced this cuz I know I have the first half of last season mhm I didn’t hear the the Nostalgia for Vincent troch that often from Kane’s fans s like and and maybe a little bit especially cuz you were playing against him in the postseason you hear some of it since the off season is hit I’ve heard a lot like just you know out and about when people start talking about the canes there’s a lot more well they let troch get away there’s a lot more of that than there was like at the beginning of the year when they had already let tro get away right it didn’t happen at the trade deadline uh they chose not to resign him it it’s it’s I feel like I don’t know maybe like the longer the absence the more everyone’s heart growing fonder for troch and the more angry they are that it didn’t work out with him and they chose quote unquote the wrong person to keep uh but but you’re right I mean troch in a lot of different ways he would have solved some of the problems we see with this this K’s roster oh massively right-handed face off guy number two Center all those things check kills penalties check it all off some of the the in front of the net stuff there’s that little grittiness yeah yeah all of it all right I got one more concern here oh okay uh this is my locker room concern I’m con I’m concerned with the and and this is like I have no reason to believe it like I haven’t seen the body language or there’s no quote in the media that’s making it but it’s just something I think we should keep an eye on uh I’m concerned with their head space with it not seeming like the team is as Allin as they were last year last year was super obvious right they brought everybody back the what were it the two new players were uh orav and Lemieux and Bunting oh and Bunting uh like but they were like when you only have a couple of new players and one of them is worth almost $8 million a year and was the Prime defenseman on the uh the free agency market it’s like it’s easy to show up super motivated when you’re like everybody is all in on winning the Cup this year and then at the trade deadline the team reinforced that right they went and got Jake gensel and and they had to spend a little bit to get it but it was an all-in move and it’s easy to show up and be in the right head space when it feels like this is our year right finally all the chips are in the middle let’s go and then the next year for it to be like well we prioritized the future a little bit over the now we had to let some guys go for money reasons we didn’t want to give long-term contracts to guys who we thought might not be worth it on the back half of the contract and it’s like all right so we’re we weren’t building towards this year were we like last year it was all in this year it’s like well check right we put all the chips in the middle blind now it’s check let’s let’s see the Flop let’s let’s see what’s going on here which is a different vibe for a team right I was even joking uh around the office today you know what I might do this year if I were the canes Tell Sebastian n to be as individually selfish and greedy as possible just go like listen I don’t know we’re going to we’re a playoff team like we’re good don’t get me wrong but this is your year to go finish like third in MVP voting this is your year to go get 100 points this is your year to go do it and then next year when we have this boatloads of free agency money to spend we’re going to say don’t you want to come play with the third voting MVP guy taking the next step Superstar don’t you want to come help him get over the hump I think Rob berore would pull his hair out instead I agree with that I’m not saying they’re going to I’m saying I might because it does feel like they’re building towards the 2025 20126 season a little bit right the the roslovic being a one-year deal like there the um what is it Robinson being a one-year deal bunch of contracts coming off not investing the big long-term deals this year there’s going to be some guys available next year that that moved the needle feels like they might be building towards that off season as the next all-in moment which means this year it’s not an Allin at least not until they see the Flop right if it’s the trade deadline and you’re first in the metropolitan maybe you change some things but seems a little different than last off season they didn’t go get orav on a 2-year seven what a 775 per they didn’t make that move this year which just sets the tone a little differently all right let’s get to confidence this one is my hockey answer is is you know my my concern was the second line guess what my my confidence is going to be the first line oh okay sometimes it’s that simple I just anytime AO Jarvis and fetch are on the ice at the same time uh you’re going to hear me just take a nice little deep relaxing breath lean back in my chair and go I’m I’m I’m all right here I’m confidence in everyone on the ice uh with fetch having a full off season where he can actually get ready and doesn’t have to rehab uh with Jarvis not having a torn labrum hopefully uh with Jarvis having another year of development with AO having another year of development I’m just I’m wildly confident in the first line right now what are you confident in Dennis U my confidence is still with their blue line I know they lost Brett pesi and Brady Shay but Gosa spare and Walker should step in and fit in seamlessly Gosa spare already knows the system Walker is a good skater really great skater and I think he’s going to adapt to the style of play that the Carolina Hurricanes have and you got four stalwart guys coming back already so I think the the the Blue Line the back end of the team is going to be great and the way the system that the Carolina Hurricanes play which happens to be the same system at the Florida Panthers run folks is going to keep them in games night in and night out this is this is a team that will make the playoffs is it going to be a grind and a little bit of a struggle at times 100% absolutely I think so it’s not going to be a 110 Point team unless you’re going to do it if they’re 110 Point team there’s a lot of 2-1 victories in there yeah well there might be but you know what 110 points is 110 yeah but that’s how this team is probably going to play a little bit more of a grinding style but on that back end they’re always going to be in games because of their defense and just how they play defensively as a team my last confidence here and this is the locker room answer I let I’m confident in rod with the challenge in front of him you know Rod brendam Moore and he he spoke to the media at the the last day of the Kane’s Prospect development camp where he said like no it’s I’m paraphrasing here but only a little bit like it stinks watching those guys leave right it’s even he called it he tried to relate it to a college coach where it’s like the roster turns over every four years but then he went but these some of these guys have been here even longer than four years he’s like it’s it’s like he admits it stinks I think there’s also a part of the best coaches and I think Rod bremore is one of them there’s a part of them that when they get put in this situation they kind of get excited right like let’s be real what obviously he had to coach like Brett peshy and and Brady Shay but it was much more of just like you know little tweaks here and there like hey remember d d du like now he gets to get in there and Co he gets to to do a little bit more you know what I mean like last year there what like we I I went over it earlier there was like two and a half new players in the uh in the roster everybody else was already like indoctrinated to the Cane’s culture there’s going to be some like actual indoctrination into the Cane’s culture happening this preseason happening early in the season remember we talked about uh right it takes like 15 to 20 games for a defenseman to really get into what the canes are going to do gosh the spe probably a little less cuz he’s been in it uh but like Shawn Walker is going to be a like he’s going to get coached up a lot by by Rod bore and the assistance and a bunch of those forwards going to get coached up a whole bunch and there might even be get ready for this some rookies at practice might see one that’s got to excite a coach a little bit right having just that molding ball of clay of Felix anger sorum or Jackson Blake and you’re just like I I let’s work right let’s get back to it let’s let’s do it there is but there’s also the it’s a tight game right here and I don’t know if I could trust this kid right now cuz he hasn’t been in this but that’s the that’s the juice right that’s why you’re in it it’s it’s juice of a different kind that’s that’s the the adrenaline the cortisol levels spiking like when like no like when uh when Martin Nook and N are out there like you might not be you know super excited that they’re going to go you know make a highlight play but like your heart the Montreal Canadians are like no no no no no we don’t need more teenages the guy we you should sign an offer sheet to let’s go get that Seth Jarvis guy let’s go get that Seth Jarvis guy which let’s be honest if the Montreal Canadians signed Seth Jarvis to an offer sheet the Carolina Hurricanes will take about 0.1 seconds to go yeah we got you here cuz and not only that it’ll take going 0.1 seconds to like swear Montreal as an enemy for the next 10 years uh those off kind of already are that’s true those offer sheets are not uh not to be taken like they’re they come with m mesages also it’s not just hey we like this player let’s sign him to a long-term offer sheet it’s also like a a jab towards that team where relationships matter you know what I mean uh there’s there’s some retribution that’s interesting because Seth Jarvis he is not he did not file for arbitration well he’s not eligible true he’s not eligible for arbitration well yeah basically what I was pointing out is those arbitration guys can’t sign offer sheets uh Seth Jarvis still can he still could sign an offer sheet and uh the team would have to decide to match or I would assume take a boatload of picks but it would not be a difficult discussion because uh Seth Jarvis is awesome and the canes know it so for example let’s say a team wanted to sign Seth Jarvis to an offer sheet and they said all right young man we’re going to give you over s years let’s say $8 million a year which is well within the like market value of a Seth Jarvis on the open market which makes perfect sense since the team that signs him to an offer sheet would have to offer both a first round pick second round pick and a third round pick in order to sign someone of that value if you sign over anywhere between 8.58 million and 10.7 million somewhere in that range it’s two first round picks a second round pick and a third round pick so you have to have the draft Capital even to offer an offer seet or sign someone to an offer seet but nonetheless in the range of the 6.4 to8 and a half million dollars that Seth Jarvis would sign for it’s going to cost you a first second and third Brown pick and I don’t know if all teams are going to be willing to do that but for God like Seth Jarvis I could see it and and well the other thing is not essentially like trading not only did yeah it’s trading and already having the contract agreed upon when when the trade is done the extension um we talked with Eric tolsky on this show and he said like signing offer sheets is not good business for anybody because we have the cap space and we’ll just match it and then you know the player wants out they don’t get to get out because then we can’t trade him even for a year and for the team the other team then we just locked up a player that you want and we can’t trade him for a year uh I’ll also say this signing an offer sheet when you know the other team is going to match and I mean I guess you don’t know 100% but you’re pretty darn confident the canes are going to sign any any uh offer or match any offer sheet that’s signed for Seth Jarvis I wonder what that does does to like the the psyche of the team that you have right like let’s say what what what were the terms you you threw out there 7 years 8 million per year is is that what you were rolling with yeah um let’s say the Montreal assigns him to a 7year $8 million contract offer sheet you don’t think there’s going to be some people on the Canadians looking around going like wait a second we have 8 million a year to spend and you were lowballing me like two months ago right it it’s uh one of the best jokes from uh um what was it um it was the Mark Twain award for Dave Chappelle John Stewart spoke at it and he goes I remember when Comedy Central the most on the the cusp of making the NCAA tournament team would win with your schedule so I I have the actual numbers here in front of me from Bart tv.com for last year when it comes to winds above bubble UNC was the fourth best team in the entire country last year they had a plus seven wins above bubble wobble now what that means is according to Bart torvic and the calculator that they have running things if you took the most bubble possible team so essentially if 68 teams make the tournament like the 68 and a half team right the team that was right on the bubble the which is mythical like it’s created just a number would have won 22 games playing North Carolina schedule they would have been 22 and 15 instead North Carolina was 29 and8 that was good for the fourth best wobble in the country here’s why I like the wobble which is just a ridiculous thing to say here’s why actually let start with here’s why I don’t like the wobble and uh Dennis I think you’ll Echo this one I don’t like that it’s just another thing that they’re going to have to to deal with another number I I think there’s too many I think you can confuse yourself I think if you bend numers in a bunch of different ways you can make any team look like the best team in the world or any team look like the worst team in the world what like what’s considered like the strength of a quote unquote bubble team you know is it that that’s something I’m also curious about what do you mean by what well it’s like if your winds above bubble it’s like well what’s like if a bubble team played this schedule like what defines a bubble team it’s yeah I mean I think what the numbers are trying to come up with and this is where we’d have to look at like the algorithm uh it’s trying to say the quality of a team that is between the last team in and the first team out so if there were a team between the last team that made the NCAA tournament and the first team that didn’t make the NCAA tournament if there were a team between them what would that team do with your schedule and then how many games Better or Worse are you than that team that’s what this stat is I want to know if that team has an in injury that they’re dealing with are they strong in the post perimeter team maybe they had a coming off an overtime game what you know what happens over there did someone get hurt in the middle of the game yeah number numbers do lose all the context lose all the context to something like that what I don’t like is like net ranking will still be there strength of schedule will still be there win loss will still be there Point differential will still be there so it’s like all you’re going to do is give the the committee right you’re going to watch the games the eye test is going to tell you the teams you think are good and then you’re going to choose the stats that make that team good and go it’s got the best wobble in the league and somebody else is going to go they got the worst net and it’s like okay uh stalemate we’ll we’ll return to him next page uh I hope that madeup bubble team has a player that has to sit out the second half of the year because of academic violations who’s who’s tampering with them exactly uh who’s tampering with them here’s the uh what their nil budgets like here’s what I do like about it though it does not discourage teams like the wobble as a step will not discourage teams from scheduling good opponents right because that mythical that that I don’t know idea of a bubble team would lose to a top 10 team in the country right so if you lose to a top 10 team in the country you’re not losing like that’s it’s a wash right you both would have lost you’re not your your wobble number isn’t changing so it encourages teams to schedule good games right because the opposite side is uh I feel like I’m always making fun of teams can you give me a bad team in college basketball like like a pet a cup Cape game that you would schedule uh any big 12 school aha Ser like like a The Citadel Perfect The Citadel uh if you beat the Citadel your apparent your phone also wants to play The Citadel I think Citadel may have heard s i r i oh okay uh startled me I was like no one’s in here who’s talking Big Brother’s always listening um it makes sense we’re talking numbers and making the game more analytics and letting the algorithms decide and the Machine started piping up the machine started going I got this entered into my wobble calculator um but what I was saying is like a a ACC team beating the Citadel or MCN state or name your your super super low mid major you’re not getting anything in the wobble because a wobble team that bubble team would beat them so that’s a wash as well right the things that are going to decide your bubble score are beating good teams and losing to bad teams right with with that’s what’s motivated by and I like that much more than the net ranking which can be gamed like the system can be gamed like the big 12 did last year by Simply Having no one in your conference play anyone in your non-conference schedule and then everyone’s net ranking Rises kind of as one tide so I like this better than net I like it as a replacement for net I don’t like it in addition to net but it could the wobble you know we’re going to start seeing you know about December you know they used to bring up the net rankings like during long timeouts during basketball games they’re going to have to do like the next time out we’ll bring up the winds above bubble and see where pit and Wake Forest sit that’s actually going to happen the James Anthony Edwards like they’re gonna be able to score a lot of points right nine times out of 10 when that team goes out there shots are going to fall and they’re going to score a bunch of points and and by the way they didn’t last night if you watch the first half of that game you might be like I thought these were generational scores uh it doesn’t look like it um that’s not going to happen often but it’s great to know that if it does you can bottle up maybe the second best team in the in the world just make their life a living problem and win anyway so I thought it was a very good good deal there also I’m very excited for the Olympics also they asked Anthony Edwards uh what other sport would he compete in if he couldn’t compete in basketball and he went swimming everybody else made sense Steph Curry went golf right there was uh basketball skills for everybody else right like oh volleyball we jump high in basketball maybe volleyball Anthony Edwards thinks he can do anything have you seen that clip where he’s miked up a couple uh may have been like a year ago now okay where he they asked him like what sport he could have gone pro in other than basketball and he just started listing and he put like 15 Sports together I think that guy’s going to have the confidence to make some shots in the Olympics you know what I mean that’s number five let’s get to number four we are the four har John Shire was on the Devil’s Den podcast Duke men’s basketball coach and uh talked about tampering in college basketball that’s the transfer portal here’s John Shire here’s the audio it’s starts with having our antennas up as a staff for who can go in the portal you know there were a couple kids we looked at by the time we saw their names go in the portal and reached out they already had visit set up and very shortly after they had commitments they made commitments and we’re talking days from in the portal visit and then being committed and so uh you know there’s no there there’s tampering all the time you know I mean I could tell you the seven guys that we had transfer all seven of them were contacted throughout the season and that’s just like I’m not that’s the way it goes that’s the era we’re in and so you have to just be ready to attack those things in um in real time do you know what’s interesting about this Dennis you brought you brought this up earlier um coaches rarely walk down this path that John Shire is walking down because a lot of times you don’t want you don’t want the spotlight to flip right you start talking about your players being tampered with and you start bringing it up and and I know John Shire is not complaining about it here and he’s not like calling for the NCAA to investigate but as you start talking about it suddenly people might start going oh is that just the way it is well interesting because you just got what Malik Brown from Syracuse you just got Sion James from toan you just got the Sixth Man uh the Sixth Man of the Year and the Big 10 from Purdue uh is that the way it is is that how you get transfers in in modern day college basketball you know it’s it’s kind of like the whole it used to be paying players where if you were talking about other like complaining that other teams were paying players or that other team’s boosters were having $100 handshakes you had to make sure your house was squeaky clean before you start making any kind of you know hey point the spotlight over there scrubbed clean the the whole glass house thing right don’t throw stones if you live in glass house um it’s just interesting that not many coaches talk about this I do believe it is wildly prevalent in college sports as a whole uh including college basketball where yeah you’re right if you have a good player on a mid- major team they’ve heard from Power conference coach is through the grape vine at least by conference play like I don’t I don’t even think it takes till nearing the end of the season I think it happens often it’s just it’s just rare to have a coach talk about it because usually it’s just you know to use another cliche snitches get stitches right lot more like I didn’t see anything I do not recall have you seen that scene from Wolf of Wall Street where they’re all being interrogated like yeah I don’t remember and I don’t remember I do not recall I do not recall that is not in my recollection I do not recall I do not recall I cannot recall I feel like that’s usually what what coaches do in college basketball simply because you don’t want anyone to recall anything that you have going on I I I said earlier I I wish college coaches if you’re going to make claims that guys are being tampered with call out other schools for doing it oh you think it’s stepp in here call him out what if he doesn’t know then you can’t then you can’t make a claim that guys are tampered with you think it’s journalism you need a double sourced I like it but once you have it double sourced print it on the front page bull font say hey you know what so and so at this school was talking to my player during the season and call it out and I got facts I got hear the receipts show it but like you said make sure that your house is clean yeah that’s that and i i i alternate between this head coaches know everything that happens in their program uh I this is one part that I go to because head in North North America took place in Charlotte last night and it turned into a I was going to say boxing match but boxing match is more regulated than what we saw at the end there it was between Columbia and Uruguay Columbia 1110 Uruguay had players go into the stands to fight fans how Wild is it like it was it if you have not seen it go on any social media platform it’s there it look it up you’re right it does seem like the the but it does seem like it’s talked about a lot but I don’t know how it’s not being talked about way more players and by the way like international soccer players they’re good right it’s not this is not like a a beer league right this is not fifth level like this is Elite level soccer had players go into the stands to fight fans of the other team fans were fighting each other fans were were throwing and it’s not like you know actually sometimes you know the malice of the palace is going to get brought up uh you remember like the couple punches that were thrown in the malice in the palace when Ron arest and everybody went up there you remember Germaine O’Neal hitting the guy that looked like turtle from Entourage yeah uh you you remember like the few swings when Ron arest first got up there into the stands so for those who may not remember the malice on the palace about 20 years ago it was in Detroit when the Pistons were playing the Indiana Pacers and Pacers players went into the stands and were fighting people and some guys in the stands like came down to the court too oh yeah and caught hands which in that case you come down to the court you’re stepping into that guy’s territory actually and Germain O’Neal had one of the smaller suspensions cuz I mean he lit a dude up but it was like it was like the short Corner was like the it was like a long three-pointer where where he was standing it was uh you know about half court when he lit him up so it’s like you came into the Tiger’s cage the tiger gets to gets to pounce you know what I mean um but there were a lot more punches thrown last night than were thrown in the mice and the palace oh yeah there were like combinations thrown it it was it was a melee there for a while so I I know some of the uh the players from Uruguay were saying how there hey that’s we got family we got you know family kids and people like that that are up there my guest is my assumption is that the fight between Columbia fans and Uruguay fans because the stadium was completely packed by the way at Bank of America I mean packed and I’m Wonder Carolina’s a soccer area it is it’s and it showed it looked like a a a lot some other country a lot of people traveled there for that but nonetheless I’m wondering if there was something that happened in terms of the scuffle where there may have been a family member of a of a Uruguay player and it’s like no that’s my family I’m going up the there to to protect my family which then led to others getting involved and that’s how maybe things escalated even further I we saw players on the that were on the field on the sidelines that were throwing stuff like water bottles into the stands at people it was it was all over long distance and hand toand combat yes and then you see the the the Charlotte PD is in the stands trying to break stuff up I was like where’s the place oh wait they’re in there they’re just being swarmed by people on both sides I mean there there’s 0 80,000 people there or something like that 75 yeah that’s uh a lot of people to control and there were fights in in the upper deck at different points of the game too I’ve seen videos of that as well I mean there were scuffles and altercations it was Wild and the game on the field reflected it or maybe this the stands reflected the game on the field it’s a chicken or the egg yeah right it’s cuz the game was super chippy there were seven yellow cards and a red card I mean it was a bleep show Columbia wins one nothing they advance to the finals ARA are there any lasting effects of that is there any like uh players not able to play uh I don’t know should Argentina wear football pads I maybe they should should uh hockey hockey gear uh I I think the player that got the red card for Columbia is probably suspended for the next game just simply off cards but I didn’t see any Columbia players in the stands but they do have a third place match uguay versus Canada I think on Saturday and my guess is players won’t be playing playing in that yeah they got to be calling up like second teamers right now yeah exactly any anybody where’s that one being played the third place probably not Charlotte right no it’s not in Charlotte to think the us could have been in that game who would they have replaced yesterday they would have replaced Uruguay uh maybe in Colombia actually they would have replaced Colombia yeah so yeah you want to try that on us you want to try that on on carot and True North Carolinians see what happens I don’t want to mess I actually I don’t want any researched or looked up actually earlier today so we all know that if you want to watch the Carolina Hurricanes you have to watch them through b Sports unless they’re on a nationally televis and you have to play roughly like between $18 and $20 a month or something along those lines unless you have Spectrum so it’s very hard to access these games well balet Sports and the Dallas Stars used to have an agreement the Dallas Stars said we’re no longer going to be associated with with Diamond Sports Group which is the parent company for for B Sports all part of sin clayer broadcasting we’re going to do our own thing they have a platform that they started with another Media company called it’s virtual plus is what it’s I’m sorry Victory plus my apologies so this they have a seven-year deal with Victory plus it’s free free for your fans to watch my favorite price and it’s it’s going to be ad supported which well guess what when you’re watching a any hockey game there are commercials and ads that run during commercial breaks like during stoppages to play so it’s not any different so it’s ad supported and it’s free which I’m thinking I yeah I love this I’m like oh wait there’s a I just got to log in maybe okay fine you have a log in for me to watch games for free if I’m a can’s fan that sounds awesome and I hope other teams around the league start looking at like wait a second we can control the broadcast we can can sell the advertising directly and all these things maybe that’s the route that we go we have to root for this to work I yes 100% we have to root for this to work for Dallas so then others it’s copycat league right if they work and it makes money and their fans are happy then other teams will go thank goodness we don’t have to deal with uh you know negotiating media rights we can just own everything and give it to our fans for free and make money on it yeah that sounds lovely make that happen you know what it sounds like what’s up it’s very radio oh yeah radio which is free which is free and add supported right that’s it’s it’s very us it’s over the air it’s just basic like over the air broadcasting it’s it’s exactly it’s like over the stream I guess would be the way to to describe it but I I mean I have to admit I get annoyed by trying to track down Kane’s games and sometimes oh I bet 90% of the people listening to this right now are like hey I want to watch a game and and you know what you know what the the we’re paying for this every time there’s like a lag or a glitch or something we’re paying you you complain about less when it’s free it’s like all right so it it took a while to load yeah not it’s not costing me anything that’s a little fuzzy a little pixelated but it’s fine it’s free yeah there’s a there’s a I don’t know it just sounds like it should work whatever I hope it works for Dallas and victory plus whatever you can do to make sure that your fans can are able to access your programming without a pay wall is the best thing that you can do and it’ll turn your uh it’ll turn your players like the more eyeballs you get on your players it’ll turn them into bigger Stars it’ll make them more marketable it’ll sell more mer more merch there’s indirect ways it’ll it’ll increase it but you you need to make sure it works like just nuts and bolts of it as well the one downside of it is is that sometimes it might be harder for casual fans to maybe flipping through channels and go oh yeah there’s a hockey game let me just check it out and see what’s going on that might be the one downside unless you do a through where the canes are first of all they asked NHL staff who will be the Stanley Cup champion the canes received 3.1% of the vote which puts them in sixth what is it about sixth with the canes way almost 50% about 47% said Edmonton obviously they were close but you know uh Runners up Carolina 3.1% again they’re in seventh this time to be the runners up uh let’s jump to the next one biggest disappointment they asked who could you see missing the Playoffs or being a first round flameout is what they called it the Carolina Hurricanes received 28.1% of the vote they were the most voted for team to be the biggest disappointment meaning miss the playoffs or be a first round flameout it seems like there’s a very dedicated group of people media members NHL staff like the overarching kind of just uh conversation around the the NHL there’s a very dedicated group that refuses to put Carolina anywhere outside like the top five and then there’s this other section that is like praying on their downfall and expecting it to be spectacular and ugly this year they were the biggest disappointment the number one choice for biggest disappointment in this Anonymous athletic survey Dennis you surprised cuz to me that’s I mean that’s the headline for Kane’s fans number one I’m not surprised by it because I think a lot of teams or a lot of people are looking at this team saying hey there’s still playoff caliber team in terms of making it there don’t see him getting much past that opening round so basically like oh you’re going to be the Toronto Maple Leafs for the last 20 years Toronto Maple Leafs uh third highest vote Getters to be the biggest disappointment sense Vegas golden kns second that also I’m not surprised by that either because Vegas kind of barely slipped into the playoffs last year and got bounced in the first round by Dallas Stars in a pretty tough Series so I can see that happening again this is the dichotomy right cuz the next one is President’s Trophy winner they are the seventh favorite to win the president’s Trophy winner over 6% of votes went to the canes to win the President’s Cup president’s trophy excuse me and 29 whatever it was 28% say they’re going to be the biggest disappointment they’re they’re like they they’re polarizing is what they are there you love them or you hate them right you either think they’re still right in the thick of their window or you think it’s going to go poorly Rod brendam Moore received 3.1% of the votes to be the uh the coach of the year but he’s actually in the bottom half of coaches so uh not near the top there how about this one Eric tolsky with 3.1% of the vote to win the Jim Gregory award given to the NHL general manager who’s uh basically the best year so tolsky is in the mix that’s a 10 I believe 1 2 3 four five six seven eight ninth he has the ninth best chance anything else you want to point out about this before we move on there is Jordan Stall in the selki trophy third favorite oh yeah which makes perfect sense I feel like that one like they just turn in their same same uh slip from this past year it’s Matthews it’s stall at the top they’re just like yeah same guys
