Phoenix Suns Coach Mike Budenholzer Talks NBA.Summer League, KD Injury

summer league team and OB you got a chance to look at the the rookie just what’s your initial impressions of what they showed in the first half yeah well I’m excited about Ryan and Oso um you know everything they’ve done since we’ve drafted them everything they did uh in the draft process so um to get them in the program and work with them and watch them grow and develop uh we couldn’t be uh more excited about their future you look at the Rost that’s being put together with Josh being the latest edition what do you think about what you have in place for the season yeah no we’re very excited about uh you know the team and our roster you know it’s the same as uh you know when we talked uh whatever that was on on my my press conference so we’ve got a lot of talent um figuring out how to get them to to play uh you know at a high level on both ends of the court I’m very excited about it another thing I had was your assistance what were you at with hiring assistant coach you got more to get or or no yeah no there’s still a little bit more to add um I feel great about the group um you know that we do have in town that are kind of you know under contract and then house and there’s still a little bit of more work to be done coach you had talked about playing with or without a point guard needing to be able to do that how do you like what Monte Morris is able to do in terms of being able to play with the ball or without the ball yeah I think Monty is going to fit really well with us um you know he’s somebody that we targeted in free agency we feel great about getting him what he brings um you know I think uh like you said being able to play with it without it his shooting um his playmaking you know he’s just a good good NBA player that we’re excited about when it comes to these younger kids the rookies and getting to watch them on the court how valuable is that when it comes to evaluating them yeah you know I mean summer league is always uh you know it’s an interesting process and I think uh you know it’s it’s invaluable for him to get these reps and start learning what NBA basketball’s like and um you know I’ve seen everything in summer league from guys come out and bust it and uh other guys that maybe have a struggle and then become great players so uh you know I think uh summer League’s great um for them and you know they’ll continue to grow kind of excites you about Ryan’s skill set specifically yeah I mean obviously his ability to impact the game defensively we think is uh he’s got a chance to be elite on that end of the court and um you know I think uh his length and his athleticism and then uh you know growing into a two-way player um you know with his size uh you know we think he can be somebody that’s going to be good for us for a long time you’re coming into a roster that’s largely intact from last season how has the process been having those conversations with guys starting to get to know everybody yeah it’s been great um you know everybody all up and down the roster uh it’s been fun to you know start to build those relationships get to know them um learn about them off the court um talk a little bit about what we want to be doing on the court um it’s an important process one more I you looking at Kevin with the c and I know they optimistic that he’ll be ready for Paris but are you keeping in contact with him about that or what’s your level of concern yeah no our medical uh staff has done a great job of um supporting supporting him USA Basketball has been great supporting him uh you know Kevin’s a veteran he knows himself well so um you know we C we feel confident that he’s in a good place um he’s being well taken care of and you know hopeful that uh he’ll be back healthy and and uh ready to play for USA all right thank you coach
