NHL Trade Rumours – Huge 3 Team Trade? Habs, NYR & Jets + Oilers, Blues, Panthers, Isles & Utah

today we’re looking at all the latest NHL trade speculation around the league today we focus on teams like the Rangers the Canadians the Jets the Oilers Islanders Panthers blues and the Utah Hockey Club plus we have some more signings including signings in Seattle and Carolina all that coming up next welcome back to another video here at topshelf hockey as I mentioned we have some more signings to discuss today and then the latest speculation around the NHL there’s still actually a decent amount of free agents that are remaining unsigned as well I mean it’s not a huge crop of players but certainly some names out there that you would expect to get a contract and opportunity and be able to play somewhere next season so I’m sure there’s likely going to be some more UFA signings here uh over the next week or so um but we do have a few more signings today both of which are mostly players that were not in the NHL last year so the Seattle Kraken have signed Prospect goalie Kim Serena who they drafted this year in 2024 NHL draft in a third round uh the finished goalie was one of the higher ranked goalies in this year’s drop class and he gets his three-year ELC on the books obviously the Kraken uh will obviously take their time with him in his development but certainly an interesting piece for them to grab makes sense considering their Short history and they don’t have a ton of depth at the position so uh he was one of the better options for them to uh to draft this coming or this past draft the hurricanes have also signed their first pick in the 2024 NHL draft of course their first pick didn’t come until the second round after making some moves and trading back uh they’ve signed second round pick Dominic uh binka to a three-year ELC as well and the hurricanes are also bringing back Wen Ryan the defenseman had previously played with the Hurricanes back in 2021 um but he has gone back and played in Sweden since then but he’s returning to the hurricanes on a one-year two-way deal he’s now 31 years old so he’ll be um a depth option likely have to be like you know like a 78 type of defenseman on on the roster but he’s you know older more mature has some experience so it could be an option for them especially if they run into injuries or whatnot so uh certainly an interesting option for them to bring back uh now as I mentioned lots of different speculation around the entire NHL uh let’s start first with Utah uh Craig Morgan of course the former beat writer for the coyotes is covering the Utah Club as well now um his latest information he’s posted on Utah uh talks about the fact that former first round pick from 2019 defenseman Victor soderstrom is a player that Utah is exploring trade options for and would like to move along and get a fresh start somewhere else um currently right now he’s unsigned as a restricted free agent uh he’s played three years now in North America 53 NHL games to his uh resume and I think at this point they’re just not confident that it’s going to work out longer term uh when he was drafted uh he was looked upon as being a terrific skater really smart defenseman um you know good first pass I don’t know that he was drafted really appropriately they took him pretty high uh but then again the you know the previous regime of uh Coyote’s management especially when ja was there they made some questionable picks in my opinion even in the early stages of Bill Armstrong’s days too a little bit um kind of you know some off the board kind of guys and you know I wouldn’t say sodam was completely off the board but I do think it’s fair to say that he definitely was picked a bit higher than um you know a lot of people had him pegged on their Draft list so at the end of the day obviously they really liked a player they were happy to take him but hasn’t worked out um so again you know a younger player 23 you know has some decent skills at least it appeared as though that there was a good potential there um when he was picked and back in 2019 and it hasn’t materialized so we see this kind of move all the time where you see players uh you know similar age similar um drop status on occasion looking for Fresh Start sometimes get swapped for other players we’ve seen the Utah team make a lot of moves in regards to their blue line too obviously they got sha dery locked up they brought in male sergeev uh you know they made a bunch of other moves like they completely revamped that blue line um many of which of those moves were made early on at the draft so clearly you know there really isn’t an obvious spot for Sor to try to grab an NHL um spot and if you look at how they’ve drafted the past couple of years they’ve got some pretty big and interesting defenseman on the way up uh you know they’ve drafted some monsterized defenseman um hard to say if they’ll all make it or what they’ll things you know some of them to me look like they could be projects but either way like they’ve got a lot of other younger prospects from the last one or two draft classes that they would like to get more of those minutes um you know in the uh the farm system so just don’t know that there’s really a lot of place and doesn’t make sense for sodum to continue uh in that organization so we’ll see what they end up doing where he could end up go at this point Craig Morgan didn’t link him to any specific teams um but they are exploring options I mean at some point if it boils down to it I don’t know if they really want to just let them walk for nothing we could end up maybe seeing a case where they get him signed to a you know a one-year league minimum contract or something and then maybe between uh the preseason and training camp try to get him you know switch to a new team at that point but we’ll see what happens but the former first round pick in 2019 is definitely available now in St Louis we talked about a few days back after they signed Ryan suder uh there was certainly a lot of speculation about what that did for their depth and what that would mean for the other defenseman and what that could mean for the team and other moves we could see uh and recently we heard comments from uh Blues Rider Jeremy Rutherford suggesting that again Tory Krug would be the ideal defenseman that the Blues want to move but again as I’ve talked about here in recent days and Doug Armstrong in the Blues they’ve given out way too many no trade Clauses especially in the blue line so it’s kind of handcuff them from making moves but one thing that is U different with Krug though is he doesn’t have a no move he has a no trade clause uh looking through the contract details on popedia it doesn’t mention a no move just a no trade which is still complicated enough but there was some speculation and ruford even mentioned he wondered if they would consider even putting Krug on cuz obviously we’ve seen this move by other teams like Barkley Gad and the New York Rangers uh if they give out a own trade Clin and the player absolutely refuses to wave and they get to a point that they really want and need to move on from the contract then that can be an option but again doesn’t mean for sure a team is going to pick him up but in the case of Barkley gdo uh Chris jury had an arrangement already made talk to the sharks that you know we put them on wavers you’ll pick them up and they already had that kind of back door deal lined up so they knew it was going to happen uh in the case of you know Krug it may not necessarily be the case he still has three years at $6.5 million I mean he signed a 7-year free agent contract he’s four years into it um you know three years that $65 million is a lot of money I would suspect if they were going to have you know real serious hope to move the contract they’d have to retain money which you can’t do when by pulling a player on wavers like we talked about but because of the signing of sudor they they now have six left-handed defenseman uh you you know including Krug Nick Ley perunovich Tucker newly acquired Pierre L Joseph and Ryan suder so I mean they just brought in Joseph and suder both here in the last week or two like you know obviously that they bring in two left shot defenseman who definitely want to play um why would they do that if they had intentions of not playing them you know or don’t have a spot in the lineup now they don’t have a lot on the right side somebody could end up playing their you know their weak side uh left shot D moving to the right but that still only leaves room for you know there’s still a couple of them that would be out of the lineup so at the end of the day it’s hard to say not really clear exactly what moves we’re going to see at of St Louis I don’t know Tory Krug will get fed up at some point and agree to wave or if they’ll find a deal that he will accept we know last year they tried to move into Philadelphia that didn’t go over well said at this point we don’t really have any teams that any specific defenseman or that Krug himself is linked to uh just thought the blues need to do something uh they obviously must have some sort of plan that they’re working on given the recent acquisitions on the left side krugs the odd man out that they would prefer to move and it could get to a point where they would consider waivers but again like I said doesn’t mean anybody’s going to pick them up and if nobody picks them up they could put him in the miners if he clears that just seems you know unlikely I’m not really sure how that’s going to go but at the end of the day they they want to move them they just kind of handcuffed themselves there so we’ll see in Florida the Stanley Cup champions are still very very very tight to the salary cap and there’s still some talk about a cost cutting move coming out of the Panthers organization uh we know bill zitto and his staff are not afraid to be aggressive and somewhat ruthless and don’t have you know attachment issues like we’ve seen some GMS in the past they got to do what’s best for the team and uh obviously at the end of the day it’s been tough for them they’ve lost a lot of bodies this offseason already but they’re still in a spot you know cap wise where it’s very tight and you know a lot of reporters are still expecting a cost cutting move now we’ve talked before and it’s still believed by by a decent amount of reporters out there uh and it was a hockey news article suggesting that air neck blad was still on the market U apparently we’ve like I mentioned before eblad has expressed through his agent to the team that CU he’s one uh he’s eligible for an extension now that if he can stay he’s willing to sign for less money so again I don’t know how much less he’ll go for um but at the same time he’s making $7.5 million for one more year there was a lot of talk that you know before free agency that because it’s pretty much as soon as the cup win was over because it happened so late into June that there wasn’t a big turnaround between them winning and then really you know getting down business here um and a lot of people thought they would try to move eblad in order to retain Montour well that’s already done with montour’s gone on his way to Seattle um so you know they they lost Ean Larsson on the blue line as well so yeah it’s two your top four defense obviously fors Lings locked up long term you get eblad for one more year only uh you’ve brought in some other pieces back there you resigned kulaa for Fairly cheap contract for a few extra years they brought in Nate Schmidt um you know they they have some other depth options back there but they don’t have a lot on the right side and they’ve already lost a good amount of experience so from E blad’s perspective I I think it’s less likely that they do make that kind of move now um but another I guess pivot you could say that they’ go to for a cost cutting move would be to move a guy like Evan Rodriguez I mean he’s a good middle of the lineup utility player making like $3 million I think there would be a decent amount of interest in him he’s got a pretty good shot um kind of an underrated player really lowkey on that sense so um you know he he’s another guy that to me kind of makes sense they’re not going to move any of their top guys they’re looking at extending Bennett and Veri so those guys most likely stay on longer term deals doesn’t mean it’s going to work out but that’s what’s expected right now they just signed Reinhardt to a new New Deal to keep him longterm they have kachak and barov and then like so those five forwards right there are going to be your uh your pillars that they continue to build around and then of course londelle got his extension to kind of basically move he’s now going to be paid as a top six guy so you’re going to see londelle elevated in the coming years so those are going to be your your top six guys and then your bottom six guys are going to kind to have a little bit more um you know probably rotation if you will or you know in and out of the lineup or guys that could rotate from year to year depending on who comes in and as rookies or whatnot there’s going to be a few that left you know holdovers but you know it’s like Lawrence is still there loose to reenan uh you know uh but a bunch of the other guys are already gone you have stenland left lomberg left I believe cousins is unsigned so like there’s a lot of turnover there so to speak so we’ll see but uh if they don’t go down the eblad route which to me with all the other moves in the blue line seems less likely now Rodriguez’s name has been out there is another possibility that we could see as well so we’ll see how that goes the New York Islanders are another team that really I’m surprised we haven’t seen more from uh obviously they brought in Anthony duclair that was largely due to the previous relationship with head coach Patrick W from their days in junior of the Quebec ramparts uh but again I think duclair will be a good um a good addition there he’s got great speed uh he can score um they needed to get a little bit younger a little bit faster and he can certainly help with that a little bit not like he’s super young but he’s you know still got uh like said a lot of speed add to that lineup which is a good addition in that sense but they are very tight on space now looking at pedia today they shows them only with a million dollars in space and they still have um you know probably four to five players that you know question marks around their future status the Cal clutter Black Matt Martin remain unsigned as ufas I don’t know if the future holds is Lou bringing them back or not they also have Oliver walstrom and Holstrom both re restricted free agents so um I mean wallstrom and Holstrom are going to get deals um so I’m not really sure how that’s going to affect Martin and clutter you mean Lou tends to be the type that will keep a either a deal signed and in his top drawer and only file it with DL in September so I mean they’ve been pretty good about getting their deals out there and announced but wouldn’t be shocking if something was in agre with one of those I can see maybe Martin I’m not really sure about Clutterbuck to be honest at some point he has some move on from some of these veteran guys and get some more youth in the lineup but problem is like I said is regardless of who comes back and who doesn’t they don’t have a lot of space now if you look at their um their roster there’s some options here ppy also shows them with three goalies uh so they they signed Marcus hogberg who come back over from Europe uh previously played in NHL with the Senators um he could obviously be demoned he’ll need waivers and then of course they have uh an extra defenseman as well which will be buo so I mean they could move uh the third goalie and the seventh D down to the miners and create an extra you know 1.4 1.5 million dollars in that sense so realistically it’s more like two and a half but like I said they still have a couple of forward spots to to uh to look at and of course they really haven’t done a lot to change things up and make upgrades so there’s still belief that wallstrom himself very much could be traded um it’s believed that they would like to get a fresh start for him and even hearing comments from Lou when he did speak earlier he hasn’t said a whole lot this off season but when he has it kind of alluded to the fact that that was a possibility shouldn’t be really surprised to anybody another former first round pick who it hasn’t really worked out uh you know again like we talked about with Victor soderstrom I’m not sure if that’s a trade that would make sense for both clubs maybe maybe not but you know something along those lines is kind of what each team would be looking for in that sense I mean downlands don’t have a ton of depth on the blue line I guess maybe that could be a a shot in thee dark trade for both teams to see if they can find something there but um at the end of the day that you know to create some more space and flexibility to do anything with especially when they still have restricted free agents to deal with and if I’m not mistaken I believe walstrom is filed for arbitration so uh another cost cutting move that is was pretty much expected and hasn’t happened but could still happen would be either uh you know potential moving on from John Gabriel pasio who still has two years left to 5 million bucks um where they do have a case to file for arbitration they could still potentially get another bio window I’m not so sure they really are going to go down that route um that they had their opportunity to do that earlier on didn’t take it so I don’t know that they’re going to look at it again this time um you know a trade with some salary retain would be the more likely scenario as we’ve talked about there are some teams around the NHL that certainly have the space and you know team like you know Calgary for example um have kind of made it known they will weaponize their space and take on at least one contract if it means getting some extra assets so so we’ll see but the Islanders are definitely a team to watch the future of Oliver walstrom definitely in doubt needs a contract wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fli for another young player to swap places in AIO you know cost cutting move of some sort very much still possible as well uh when it comes to the Edmonton Oilers I know Bob staer who covers them was talking just a few days ago on Friday uh about Cody CeCe again being the cost cutting move that he expects uh we’ve talked before and I’ve said myself that I think either Cc or kulok would make the most sense and really just strictly from how they’ve played down the stretch in the playoffs I thought they should consider kolac as well um but at the same time if you look at what they’ve done for moves in the offseason they really have solidified the depth of the right side um they resign Troy stetcher they got Josh Brown uh Carrick and Conor Carrick in there as well so like you know they’ve got a bunch of extra you know older experienced right shot defenseman maybe Troy stetcher slides in on that third pair uh he could be a cheap option for them from a cap perspective as well to be like a cc replacement uh that very well could be something that we see but CC with you know three and A4 million dollar one year left they certainly need a little bit more space to get guys to call away and broberg signed um it’s bound to come here soon enough and just obviously they got to got to get those contracts done and they need the space to do it so it’s just a matter of not so much uh if but when it happens and where he goes that’s another question that we’re not quite sure of here just yet but there’ll definitely be teams looking to add to the right side depth on defense that he could certainly U you know help in for another year with that contract uh as I mentioned as well the Rangers still looking to make some moves um still lots of talk about capoo uh saw another article here in the last couple of days uh talking about the reason he hasn’t been moved so far is they’re just not happy with the offers um you know I was looking at I believe it was Vince MGO Gano uh had written an article talking about kac’s future um and how basically like they said they just haven’t found the offer that they’re looking for uh there was some links of them to Montreal and we did talk about an article uh it was either within the last two days um from Eric du hatrick of the athletic looking at a couple of the top young players that he believes Montreal would go after and kacko was on that list um he listed guys like Kent Johnson being you know a better option or Trevor zrus but being maybe a more realistic cheaper option uh that would be you know more attainable without giving up so much on the asset front obviously he was resigned to a new one-year contract uh comparable to his qualifying offer we have the connection of Jeff Gorton being the former Rangers GM who drafted him there maybe he’d want to bring him to Montreal and give him another opportunity with a new group of players to try to you know see if he can get things moving in the right direction and really take off and show that some of that skill that they seen when when he was you know 18 17 18 years old getting drafted and showing him to be a top NHL Prospect so there there has been Links of cackle to the hams I know that same article also links the Rangers of being a team that should be going after a guy like Nick eers in Winnipeg and really if you take a look at it I got kind of got think it’s like well if the Rangers should go after eers if the hams might be interested in Koo and we know that uh any of those teams would have interest in you know maybe bringing in a young defenseman as a return for any of those guys maybe those three teams could hook up on a on a three- team deal uh it could make sense where maybe eers goes to the Rangers kako goes to the HS and then the HS give up um you know Young D they’ve got multiple first round picks next year you have lots of young defenseman that they can consider moving which has been you know believed for quite some time that they were likely going to do because they can’t all play Montreal and they really it’s all has been quiet the ham has been a lot quieter than many of us have expected I thought we’d see at least another guy whether it be armia or Dvorak or one of those guys moved on didn’t happen uh we thought they’d make a big splash of the draft going after another top young player and that didn’t happen they get demod off maybe like I said maybe that option to draft him kind of changed their minds on having to give up assets to go after somebody via trade but at the same time I still think they could use another Winger on top of him and really like I said they’ve got too many defensemen anyway so why what are you going to bring back you know you’re either going to try to to bring back uh a forward or l a really really good Prospect goalie comes along which is unlikely that’s what you’re going to do and really they they’re not bad for goalie depth anyways with Jacob Fowler on the way he looks like he’s going to be really good monteo still young Primo’s still young they probably prefer a forward group you know a forward or Center uh Winger to get into that group because really at the end of the day if you look at their depth in all three positions with the prospects I think you know it it’s not like it’s weak but it’s not as deep as the D or the goalie so I I think getting somebody else in that into that role would make more sense if they’re going to make a trade but they have not and we’ll see what happens but you know kako to Montreal makes sense to some degree uh I can see why the Rangers would make sense to go after Nick eers again that could be complicated we don’t know exactly what um you know what winnter Peg is going to wants believe they’re going to want a solid NHL player going back though uh they want somebody who can you know take up NHL minutes right away on a Nick eer straight so like why some of the hams defenseman that you know was believed they could have been having conversations around could have been interesting to Winnipeg because we talked before about how the hams have been one of the top teams for work moror too and that they reportedly do have an offer on the table including Philip mesar uh as well as a first rounder one of their defenseman whether it be uh either Harris or Baron um so you know clearly wial wieg have already had discussions around that player and that’s something that’s kind of still sort of Brewing as well and we’ve we’ve heard some Rumblings about the Rangers im mity as well I don’t know how serious they would be I would think probably a little less serious because they have a deeper roster they’d have a harder time giving him guaranteed NHL time which what he was looking for so we’ll see either way there’s lots of things that can still come and obviously these three teams um there could be deals there um but they may not there to be a three team trade but it just seems like it could be a real possibility and it could even in between mordi eers Koo and some of these HS uh young young players that are reportedly available you know it could make some uh some sense there so we’ll see what happens let me know your 1. You can waive Krug. It's not super likely anyone would pick him up though. He's still fairly productive but the defensive side of his game has slipped a good bit the last couple of years. To move on from him you'd likely have to retain. And you wouldn't get much relief burying him in the minors. I want to say vet max is like 1.5 now.

  2. So the Rangers give up a player that is almost considered a total bust in Kakko and in return they get Ehlers? I think your valuations are way off.

  3. The east thinks the Jets are willing to part with a top six winger for Montreal spare parts Once again The Jets won't do that How old is this source and so they ever watch Jets games. The Jets are stacked on defense and not giving up a sixty point player for those who shown nothing in the NHL while the Habs get kakko Nonsense

  4. Kakko to Montreal makes sense in deal
Ehlers to NYC makes sense Rangers had alot ex Jets. Trouba,Roslovic,Copp,Wheeler UFA.

But none of players on Montreal besides Dach or a futures picks deal makes sense.
Schneider makes sense or if Jets had to add more.
But Coghlan,Heinola,Fluery,Salmonsson,Lambert,Chibrikov will be pushing NHL time. Or if a bad contract Jets move Pionk,Iafallo or players to make room guys on way up Chevy already said young guys will get a shot

As for Mcgroarty probably won't happen but CarsonLambos+DraftPick
