Rich Eisen Condemns the Pirates for Removing Phenom Paul Skenes from His Latest No-Hitter Bid

how cool would it have been if Paul skes starting the All-Star game next week strolls to the mound fresh off a no hitter and that could have happened if it wasn’t for the dreaded Axiom of pitch counts the stupid ass binder and binders and analytics and the kid had a no hitter through seven and 99 pitches and 11 strikeouts and came out of the game second time this year he had a no hitter going and he came out earlier was after just five though right yeah this was seven you’re you’re you’re six outs away what are we doing and he just had a six- pitch inning in the seventh what are we doing what are we doing I have no idea what we’re doing we’re screwing everything up that’s what we’re doing because that’s what baseball does recently uh who was it uh the Kevin cash or who who is the raise manager who took Snell out the World Series same deal because of the binder oh well you lost the World Series now so how’s that cuz he was going through the order for the third time how’s that how’s that go but I I’ll never forget the Cutaway by the way in Globe Life because it was during the uh pandemic the Cutaway of mooki bets when they took Snell out and it’s just like okay then didn’t he double didn’t that happen then all of a sudden all everything just caved in I guess if I’m talking about this stuff I should have it buttoned up but I would I I wasn’t expecting you to go that far back H the way back machine but that God like what we doing did we have guys Bing we had a meal on that one we dined on that one on this show for a couple days same deal this is the same deal in my opinion you know uh Paul skines is a guy at LSU just a year ago through multiple games with 110 pitches 120 pitches in a game this guy is an absolute horse and how many moments in your life do you get a chance to throw a no hitter with possibly 15 16 strikeouts not very often not very often you oh I just assume he’s going to have another shot at it really the list is long and distinguished of guys Hall of Famers who never threw a no hitter in their career these chances don’t come along very often also you know and I was watching the game you were still driving home so I was texting you and I was like bro he’s got to no no through 7 and I’m like and he came out and I was like they’re going to pull him and then there was a shot of him in the Dugout and he just looked mad and he walked right through the Dugout into the clubhouse I’m like holy crap they’re pulling him and then the announcer came on like yep he’s done that was not the look on his face when he was told he was getting pulled I I don’t understand it I’ll never understand it I won’t understand it it’s just oh but we’re protecting him from himself we’re protecting him his arm the Tommy John stop it dude’s a competitor think he wants to come out of this game I know he said all the right things after the game but come on of course he did I mean what were they really thinking I can’t believe they game 99 pitches after he just threw a six pitch inning like give him a shot you know let him let him face the next batter if it’s a long at bat okay then You Yank him and then of course what happens the first guy up after the pitch and change oh my God and then AAL this Chapman came in but this is the Pirates has done all season I know this cuz I have paulines and fantasy he only had four wins going into yesterday in his 10 starts he’s left every single game with a lead well well they got the job anyway they got just to be fair just to be fair frustrating as a fan derck Shelton the manager I I I found the sound bite I mean the the the quote he said he was TI quote unquote he was tired it really didn’t have anything to do with the pitch count everybody makes it about Pitch counts it was about where he was at it was about trusting your eyes trusting him when I went and talked to him after that he was tired they did a good job of wearing him down and he gave us everything he had I I don’t understand it I I I unless they want to save him for the All-Star Game Dude listen for a game that doesn’t count the guy the guy has been on fire he has been outstanding the uh two two runs are few and n of his 11 now starts in the big leagues he’s Dynamite I understand there’s a long road ahead just this year and down the road but I I I don’t know I I think there should be let’s let’s codify it some penalty if you remove a pitcher in with a no hitter like I don’t know what it is I can’t come up run or something I I the other team doesn’t get a run I mean I think that’s really it’s automatically a tie game I don’t know a ghost Runner you get a ghost the other team gets a ghost Runner if the guy has like exactly Milwaukee should have gotten cuz they were the ones being no hit skin comes out if you take how about this how about this for a rule you take a guy out with a no hitter fewer than a 100 pitches thrown through seven this is the situation 99 pitches yep seven Innings seven complete no hits okay and you take the guy out and he passes a physical after the game all right I know this makes no sense the other team gets a ghost Runner start on third oh Third Base thir for the eighth for the eighth first guy starts on third actually how about this that’s that’s harsh if you take the guy out um with less than 100 pitches through eight he’s on third less than 100 pitches through seven he’s on second less than 100 pitches on in the sixth he’s on first okay I’m down I’m I’m down with anything because it’s stupid what are we doing or there is a group of individuals like us who have nothing better to do who can call like 20 friends show up at the Park and who are uh outside of the managers office on the way to the parking lot who in that walk walkway 20 PE 10 people stand on one side 10 people stand on the other and they all shout shame yeah like Game of Thrones I’ll ring the bell correct shame there’s a bell there’s a bell and and then and then that gets put on Tik Tok and and we got to do something something’s got to be done see I was thinking like the mananger gets a wedgie or something you know just something just very no no foot I’m I’m going I’m going somewhat other demoralizing shame I don’t know I’m just disappointed I’m disappointed for pirates fans Baseball fans as a baseball I just you just want to see it you want to see him go for it but he’s at least we got it half right next Tuesday night you’re going to tune in to the first ining of that game pal please believe it without question that’s it this is what we’re talking about you don’t need like tune in because we’ll see who’s going to get home field advantage in the World Series tune in well the Home Run Derby is kind of taken over as the Marky event of Allstar Weekend it’s overshadowed the game in the last few years well because the game is filed because of the way the baseball is played now where everybody throws 100 miles an hour you know the pitchers do have the advantage when you have all of those guys doesn’t matter how good you can hit if somebody comes out of the bullpen in the sixth inning seventh inning fifth inning fourth inning third inning and they all throw 100 you know final score is going to be one- nothing 2-1 it’s been very low scoring you know what I mean like so that’s the way going to be and you you do want to see guys on base and ducks on the pond and and a lot of fun but fun Paul SK is fun he is fun although not for the short stop of the Baltimore Orioles and the right and center fielder of the New York Yankees but if that’s the way it’s going to be gunar Henderson Juan stto Aaron judge bottom one in Texas Paul SK on the mound oh I’m there go it’s going to be so I’m there I’m there that’s what we’re talking about well done Round of Applause catch 1. He said in an interview.. He thought about fighting to stay in..but he didn't want to question his the team..They thought he would he would have fought to stay in. So he will fight for it next time.

  2. That’s why you’re talking & the GM & Mgr are there – they have a plan and they are following it – respect the team doung the tough thing – the list is longer for young phenoms that throw their arm s out

  3. It's easy to say he should've gone for it when we don't have to go through the pain of an injury, rehab, lose of a lot of money, and possibly have great damage to our career.

  4. Saw a tweet about Lincecum havingt that 147 pitch no no and the aftermath. IF the guys arm is tired in his rookie season, let him rest. it sucks, but blame the arm.

  5. As a Pirates fan, can I have anything nice? If the kid got a no hitter and threw out his arm, we’d be screwed for the rest of the year….Then Bob Nutting can’t trade him for two quarters and a cigarette.

  6. I remember reading a quote from madden this week talking about how there’s no more teams just individuals. This a clear example of a team promoting that mindset. “We gotta protect him from himself” bs.

  7. I believe that any pitcher should have the choice, wether he wants to stay in game and complete his game,.. even if that pitcher en route of a no-hitter.
    – A PO'd Pirates fan 😡

  8. Has ANY proof of "protecting" pitchers actually been proven? It seems like they either are workhorses or consistently nicked up. Maybe because of "protecting" instead of training.

  9. This moronic conversation is the mlb equivalent to complaining about how overly protected QBs are in the nfl. Both are pointless discussions as neither sport is going to put their biggest stars in more peril.

  10. I get it’s supposed to be about the team. But typically the best way to get the most out the team, is to treat EVERYONE, who’s a part of the team, well. Ultimately you’re hurting the team more by depriving the players of deserved accolades, and history. Which means EVERY SINGLE PLAYER on that team is now thinking “am I next?”, “will I be the next player screwed over by management?”. This isn’t about the team, and this stuff never is. It’s about management asserting control, the best coaches, and leaders, know this.

  11. Look, they have to save his arm for when they need to trade him before they decide they can’t afford to keep him. They have to make sure that he’s available for the Dodgers

  12. Media have all the opinions and no responsibility. If he hurts his arm Rich would be talking about how they were reckless to push his pitch count

  13. This is dumb. No hitters are nice but as a pirates fan I’d rather see Skenes in August.

The most he’s pitched n a year is 120 innings. They will need to keep him around 150 this year to stretch him out.

This is real, google Johan Oviedo who the pirates over pitched last year.
