this Winnipeg Saskatchewan matchup this weekend and of course the firing of Chris Jones which happened yesterday after we were off the air Mike McIntyre is going to pop by we’ll get to villy Han’s new contract and discuss how the blue line is shaping up for next season as well as the challenges for villy to you know earn a spot as a regular in the National Hockey League next year now that the signature is on the paper for a 2-year deal at $800,000 per season on a one-way deal which interestingly enough was less than his qualifying offer um so we’ll get into all of that it is also the open week fineberg will be on tomorrow we’ll always have our our Wednesday Eve of visit from Jeff fineberg on a major week but for those of you that are in pools that are thinking about maybe who you want to bet on this week or doing a DraftKings lineup we’ve got a great guest Byron lindu the model Maniac will be joining us in the last segment of the program and even if you’re not into golf as much as I am you’re going to love this because we always remember dubsy coming on with his Aussie accent Byron I believe is a South African accent and uh he’s got a listen I could listen this guy talk about anything he do a great show with Kenny Kim over on Pats the the mail media Network so we’ll have some fun getting ready for the Open Championship by the way if you missed it maybe we’ll play this clip later on when he comes on T Tiger Woods Tiger Woods did his uh presser today for the open and was asking about Colin Montgomery’s comments that you know tiger shouldn’t be there he shouldn’t be still playing and woods absolutely nuked Monty with a reminding him that as a multi-time former Champion to the open Tiger has a full exemption until he’s 60 and Monty doesn’t um a great clip from eldri that we’ll maybe touch on later on but yeah we will talk some golf and British Open but we’re going to be focusing on the Jets and the Canadian Football League with Milt and Mike before Byron lindu joins us on the program later on today going to be a good one welcome to everybody with us live on YouTube and shout out to the gang making wst a part of your summer routine as well fun night at the Derby last night heck of a derby went right down to it my guy Bobby Wht one Homer short of getting into a swingoff in the final and isn’t this just the way things have been going for the Jays the Jays can’t hit and of course a former Jay teoscar Hernandez wins the Home Run Derby last night so we’ll touch all of that we’ll get Remis in here in a second uh before we do though a big thank you to the sponsors that make wst happen each and every day tomorrow a new episode of CFL 110 with lots to talk about with Jeff Hamilton of course CFL 110 brought to you by garage living Winnipeg also want to wosley as well as hogy boys down on South Osborne Royal Sports Boston Pizza the gold eyes Akens Lake Wilderness Lodge a cin boy of downs Breezy Bend and uh we will get to a why not question of the day for not autoc Corp over at Waverly and mcgilvery let’s get Michael Remis in here and get this show on the road Remo what’s going on I’m feeling good hus uh we actually have a lot to talk about today traditionally MLB All-Star week not a lot going on but we did have a Jets signing yesterday thank you Winnipeg Jets the 330 press release like right after we hit end stream the Jets know that is the time send it out send out the information and that is vly Hana toyar uh deal 800,000 aav and the bombers lot of excitement about the bombers they’re practicing preparing for Saskatchewan on Friday and we did just get the press release uh nice nice little one o00 one they knew that we were starting the show CFL they’re on the ball ontaria Pokey Wilson on the honor rooll this week for offensive player with he had 13 catches 16 targets 201 receiving yards uh one touchdown and 23 yard reception so uh incredible game they’re still talking about it at practice well that was yesterday as the bombers again back of practice getting ready for Friday you know what we’ll actually hear from Ontario Wilson Pokey as they call him uh in just a minute he spoke yesterday uh back at practice after his monster game as well as a little bit more from Zach Cero’s post game on um just Pokey Wilson’s contributions massive contributions to that huge win um you know I was just doing the the lock shop with Dusty and of course you know talking CFL the big story in Edmonton is the firing of Chris Jones uh but people still talking about that game I mean for Dusty who called it and I know many of you are at the game many of you watched it um afterwards he may have he must have set a record for what is happenings in uh in one game because there was there was so much going on oh and by the way Remis we uh I know I know many of you out there um some I should say are probably pretty excited about this new the new release of the EA Sports college football game yeah uh which is I don’t know I think it’s been 11 or 12 years since they were able to put it out because of lawsuits and whatnot about players name image likeness all that anyways it’s back early reviews are great Connor’s got it I have committed to get it over the next couple days and play it but we we we’ve set up this this came out of the lock shop today of course LTE is a rider guy Eric Dusty’s partner Saskatchewan guy proud member bleeds green we are going to set up a two game series between myself as the bombers Eric as The Riders we will play the game in Regina the week heading into the Labor Day game the following week the return game at Princess Auto Stadium bombers Riders and D we’re going to stream it and Dusty will call the game he let me are you guys going to be in person playing against each other or online no we’re going to have to figure out a way probably to uh to make it happen online and then we’ll do it on the wst stream and uh the EST stream and Dusty you’ll call the game it it we’ve talked for a long time about doing a great video game stream and I think now that this game is out there is the potential to make that happen I still don’t know what college team I should pick but the other thing that I’m very excited about is Nelson hackit has already tweeted that he will be making the CFL teams in the CFL stadiums I listen this is completely out of my pay grade you might understand how this works I don’t but if there is a way that someone can create the CFL teams and CFL stadiums and put it into this game that is going to be an absolute game Cher I mean we could have our own regular CFL stream on it if we could actually get it like I always love that maximum football the thought behind it mhm the game itself just didn’t play like an EA game like a Madden although Madden takes a lot of shots these days but anyways people are very fired up about this and the thought of a fun wst EST crossover bombers versus riders for the Labor Day weekend in the banjo bow rematches um it has to happen and Dusty has committed to doing the play-by-play for the stream which will be even better okay well I’ve seen a lot of excitement for this college football 25 and I never really played uh 14 or any other ones but I know a lot of my friends did and it’s you know the mechanics of college football video game uh quite a bit different than NFL and CFL lends you know is more similar to college than NFL and it is know someone has taken the initiative to create you know create the rosters and the stadiums in the game I think it’s just shows what a missed opportunity it’s been for the CFL to not have any type of licensed video game and I don’t know the last like 20 years like have something if you got to pay the money it’s a marketing expense um I don’t know so you know some some fanatic is going to take the initiative here that’s great and if you guys are going to go head-to-head I’ve dreamed of doing a Know video game streams we’re going to do a wst EST you know matchup you know maybe we can figure some out so I’m I’m in well and Scott Westman asking can we cool bet LOL don’t rule that out don’t rule that out Jake and Pat like they’ll have to get the big brains in the book room to figure out how a line would work for it maybe we’ll need to play a practice game or something so they can handicap it but that is a possibility I mean you can pretty much bet on anything these days um I’m sure it’ll be low limits but if you want to get a sprinkle on it we can uh I’m going to feel a lot of pressure if people are not only watching the stream but actually betting on my performance as well um so anyways we’re going to get tonight before we get to vly yesterday was the Derby as I mentioned Bobby wit of the Royals came up just short losing to T Oscar Hernandez but let’s face it the biggest Story coming out of last night Remis was the anthem and I kind of thought that this show would start off with about a 10-minute standup routine discussing the anthem last night which was an absolute travesty um but we won’t do that because like I was not familiar with ingred Andress before she’s been nominated for like four Grammys she’s a a obviously somewhat of a successful country artist the fact that she was able to get that gig and and listen I think it probably got even more attention um because of what happened on the weekend um in Pennsylvania and you know the fact that that you know that anthem at a massive Midsummer classic Major League Baseball event probably had a little bit more significance than normal it was a disaster anyone that saw it will agree um but ingred did take to her Twitter account today um just in the last hour or so and put up a uh and put up a statement uh I’ll just read it I’m not going to [ __ ] y’all I was drunk last night I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need that was not me last night I apologized to Major League Baseball all the fans in this country I love so much for that rendition I’ll let youall know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun EXO ingred so um you know for someone that is apparently as accomplished as her to have a disastrous performance like that re you thought something had to be up obviously it was and uh it’s not really something I want to post fun at so we will just wish her well and uh I’ll tell you what it sets up the ark for a great Redemption story at some point if she gets the help that she needs able to continue what was obviously a successful music career and maybe come back at some point with a way bigger Spotlight on it and knock the national anthem out of the park sometime I’m sure that would be a great story but uh uh these are serious things we know people have a lot of demons uh that you know sometimes show themselves at very inopportune times and um that was one last night so uh as opposed to making jokes for 10 minutes about how bad that Anthem is and talking about Roseanne and ferie will wish ingred well and uh hopefully she’s a better person for IT despite a pretty rough night last night for her yeah it was terrible and it was confusing because you’re like this person’s Grammy nominated singer how could this be so bad I I was wondering if she intentionally threw the anthem but you see that explanation it does make a lot of sense good for her for admitting that she needs to get help and I agree with you it sets up a nice Redemption story and I had no idea who she was you know leading into that I definitely do now and and yeah I mean the whole you know you try to see the results of the Home Run Derby on X last night and all I could find was highlights of the anthem so uh we wish it took over it took over everything Derby itself was fun yeah I mean you know there’s some really talented young players in the league that that that Derby’s a perfect opportunity toh to Showcase and Bobby wits at the top of that list like since in the last calendar year from August to now he has the the best War uh wins above above replacement stat in the entire major leagues um an absolute stud and we’ll talk about this a little bit more when it comes to signing younger players to longer term deals I mean the Royals who are as small Market as it comes when talking about the landscape of Major League Baseball broke the bank signed this guy to a seven-year deal still with Team control left and uh he’s rewarding them with um you know an All-Star performance this season nearly winning the Derby and um The Royals are relevant again albeit still probably not favored to make the playoffs but at least they’re going to be playing meaningful games after the All-Star break as someone that’s followed this team for a long time that hasn’t happened really since about 2016 the year after they won the World Series so uh you want to sign those young players and you want to keep them around he’s a perfect example of it we’ll talk to Mike uh about you know the cold Peretti situation especially in the aftermath of yesterday’s Quinton Byfield deal 5 years 6.25 million same draft class same breakout year last year better numbers than Pettis um and five years at 6.25 so kind of discuss that what that might mean for a Peretti deal and kind of the options for both Cole and his agent Kurt overheart as well as the Winnipeg Jets to put their put them together but although we are seeing more of these longer deals now um and you know maybe that makes it more likely that you know the Jets will do something longer than 2 years with Peretti I guess we’ll talk about that a little bit later on but R what do you think of the vly extension I was a little surprised just at the the number I I thought they they’d probably get a million bucks or something like that and you know again we’ll discuss this with Mike but the qualifying offer was more than 800 Grand I mean now it is two-way um but he gets two years at a very very low I mean just 25k above the league minimum there’s the potential for this to be an incredibly valuable contract for the Jets if he can you know establish himself as a regular NHL um in this Jets lineup beginning in uh in October yeah vly hanel you think he’s been around for a while still only 23 years old drafted in 2019 it’s been five years this is the year uh for them to finally give him a shot and prove that he is a regular NHL and if yeah I mean he plays up to his capability he should you think he could has a very good chance of outperforming the contract so 2 years 800,000 he is not waivers exempt this year so uh he’s going to be on the team he’s going to be in the NHL and if not he’ll have to go through waivers and I would imagine someone would take a chance on this guy who’s played so well in the AHL but I don’t think that’s going to happen so this is his time um you know didn’t really get a shot last year because he started the season injured and um none of the Jets defenseman had any injuries it was like the first season that’s really ever happen it wasn’t just starting the season injured I mean he was out and rehabbing for the First full half of the season and I mean it was a lost year for villy what can you say I mean he did come back and play well for the Manitoba moose um but he’s ready to go um and it is going to come down to it I I almost I I I I almost shrug or just you know grab my head knowing the conversations that are going to be happening on this program and in this chat but the way things look like like it’s going to be vly Hana and Logan Stanley battling for the six defenseman spot tell me if you’ve heard that before certainly not the first time that conversation has happened in and around the Winnipeg Jets but U Mike’s going to come on that a little bit come on a little later on we’ll talk about the villy extension and get Mike’s thoughts on Cole Peretti what the Byfield does deal Julian laasia by the way make does make a good point I mean it was a fiveyear deal so essentially only buying one year of Ufa like I think if the Jets and Peretti do a deal I think it like a longer term deal it would be minimum six years I think the team would love to do seven or love to do eight um but I mean he’s 22 years old right now if he signed a six-year deal it pays him a little bit more right now gives up a couple years of free agency but still brings him to that point as a 28-year old um you’re in a in a good spot um and certainly I think the Jets would love to have the certainty they’d be here I think they’d probably love to get seven or eight years on it and know maybe that UPS the uh that UPS the number although I think as a player and as an agent I would push hard to try to get to that unrestricted free agency earlier than 30 years old um so you know whether that’s 28 or 29 I mean I think that’s sort of the give and take between a six or a seven-year deal and obviously what that doesn’t reflect in the rest of the contract so um but yeah that’s coming up as well in the program uh but re big news in the CFL we’ll talk about this with Milt um also happened after the show yesterday Chris Jones fired in Edmonton I can’t say I’m surprised I mean this team has bumbled their way through another five games games that they should have won in many cases found a way to lose game after game after game egregious clock management at the end into the game by Chris Jones the execution on the kickoff team conspired for another loss at home 8 and 33 the final record for Chris Jones in Edmonton and now Jarius Jones takes over as the uh as the interim coach um I don’t even know what to say about the Elks anymore I’ve expected them to win for about the last month and they just never do maybe getting the black cloud of Chris Jones out of the building and out of Edmonton leads to brighter days ahead for a team that has almost played themselves out of another season already yeah a couple CFL Legends has taken over G Roy Simon as inim GM and jerius Jackson as head coach and it just hadn’t gone well for the last couple years their record was terrible they had that you know professional sports record home losing streak 22 straight games like there’s so much conversation about you know uh it’s the name change well no their team’s been awful and who’s been leading it Chris Jones he’s the head coach he’s the GM I wasn’t sure if this was going to happen because he had those two titles and then you what then you got to pay two people and they have this whole ownership uh situation where they’re looking for a new owner but apparently this was cleared with the group that’s going to come in and good for them for finally pulling the trigger and he was we talked about this yesterday he was brought in uh for defense the offense has actually been pretty good I’m not a big McLoud Bethal Thompson guy but he didn’t turn the ball over on Sunday it was the defense who gave up 400 plus yards to Drew Brown 480 four sorry closer to 5 to Drew Brown they got pimp slapped by pimpleton uh taking it to the house so uh I think this is going to turn a new era in Edmonton you got to be excited going forward because I don’t know what more evidence you needed that he wasn’t the guy there and I mean he got his great cup thanks you know Mike Riley and what Ed hervey built the team at that time but it didn’t go well for him in Saskatchewan and just disaster like Ru ruined the franchise for the last you know couple Seasons here at Edmonton well well listen I mean it’s to the point where they’re getting private ownership I mean it essentially ended the franchise and someone’s going to come in and save it and put them in a better spot so again we’ll get mil’s thoughts on that coming up um just see in the chat a lot of com of chat about the uh the the the extension um the uh I see SK hos you’re wrong Elias Salman and going to beat up villian Stan the only reason I don’t really include Elias in that conversation is he’s on the right side I mean I really think that you know it’s going to be uh morisy and then it’ll be Dylan Samberg and then it’ll be one a viler Stan on opening T night on the left side of that third pairing now Colin Miller Neil Pon Dylan Dello right now you would think would be those top three on the right side uh but I listen I’m I’m as high on Elias as anybody right now and maybe more so even than hola although we haven’t yet seen him here uh but man the last two years playing in the Swedish League he has from everyone we talked to at the draft taken big big strides ahead and I think projects to be a guy that you know could be in and listen he might and I would say probably at this point probably starts the year with the Manitoba moose but this is a very different situation for a player like Sansan than basically what vill’s gone through for the last couple years you know where you see this stacked lineup I mean Pan’s on an expiring deal uh Miller’s on a relatively inexpensive two-year deal if he goes in and shows that he’s the best guy and ready to play right now ahead of those guys I think that happens most likely he gets sometime in the a but I would bet that come the new year he’s recalled and probably finishes out that season never looks back and plays some significant minutes at times and again we’ll talk about this with Mike but I mean the defense courp was so healthy last year um you know there will be at some point the defense is going to get banged up and injured um and where he is in the depth chart I think will say that he plays quite a bit so yeah don’t I’m not forgetting about Elias um just speaking about that left side position presumably opposite Miller as we sit here in the uh in the middle of January hey so milt’s coming up we’re going to talk CFL with Milt and then tomorrow on always a pleasure to have you on the program how are you man I’m doing great it’s always always a pleasure to be on your program and I know your program’s doing well you got a bunch of advertising going on man that’s awesome to see man I’m so happy for you hey appreciate it appreciate it dude well I mean listen it’s a big part of is the the great folks we have guesting with us and you were certainly one of them and what a great time to have you on talking bombers and the rest of the CFL listen before we get to the bombers uh I got to ask you about the big story in the league coming out of yesterday and Chris Jones getting the pinks slip um were you surprised that it happened or were you surprised that it took as long as it did I mean people knew that were in the process and they’re still in the process of you know turning over that team to some private ownership so he pretty much I thought he would have uh the season until that happened but I think in the the the way that they lost that game that was a final straw their thing was basically hey we got to pull this plug we’re losing games no one’s in the stand so what do we have to lose let’s just uh you know get G Roy Simon opportunity and jerius Jackson opportunity so uh surprised it happened then but after that like I said the fashion in which they lost that game uh they said that’s pretty much it so I’m not surprised it happened after what just happened this past weekend yeah it’s not too often in professional football you’ll see someone given the Rope to put together an 8 and 33 record um but that was part of what I mean Chris Jones really did get the keys to the franchise and was on the verge of driving it right off the cliff some would say that that already happened but man mil when you look at this season so far I mean you have to talk about the head coach and the boss because they have just found ways to lose week after week after week it’s not like their offense hasn’t been putting up points it’s not like they haven’t been in these games and honestly it it speaks to the level of parody right now the Canadian Football League the games have been so close and yet teams like Hamilton and in particular Edmonton have found ways to make one boneheaded play one bad decision and that ends up being the difference between being on the right side or the wrong side of the scoreboard after 60 yeah and if you’re in those teams shoes is unfortunate because they’ve been in just about every single game not only in every single game but it’s it’s been nail biters down to the last you know couple of possessions and you look at the way Edmonton just lost this game you’re like hold on they at least should have had opportunity to go into overtime and the fact that they didn’t do that a lot of that can be put on the head coaching the coaching staff so I see why they did that but as you mentioned the parody in this league is great but it’s if you’re 0 and five it’s hard to say that it’s parity in his League 0 and five but as you mentioned all these games have been closed Hamilton Edmonton you know they’ve been right there even with Winnipeg with their early losses most of these teams were right there in it so let’s hope that these teams who have been losing they can start winning some games I know some of the teams who’ve been winning don’t want to hear that but when you only have nine teams you want every single team to have an opportunity especially when you come down to the end of the season have an opportunity to make it to the playoffs because that’s what keeps fans uh in tuned into the games and watching because otherwise if you have two teams and they have nothing to play for as a fan it’s hard to watch that game so let’s hope these teams who have been losing uh start winning some games you know and and and and listen at Owen five in a in a very competitive league and particularly the division that the Elks are in I mean it it’s close to being lost but but it’s not and I was just talking about this on our show with Dustin neelon last last hour we’re on the lock shop the one thing that Edmonton has going for them is that they still have to play the bombers they still have to play the Calgary Stampeders like the teams that they are catching they have on the schedules and if they are able to turn this around and turn some of these losses into wins I think we’ve seen enough from them on both sides of the football but particularly the offense that they can compete and I mean there’s no way they should be at 0 and5 right now you know maybe a little bit of a different direction and a couple good things happening like maybe we could see a turnaround like they had in the second half last year after going 0 and N to start off a little earlier to at least have some meaningful games down the stretch for a team that hasn’t done that very much in the last three years without a doubt it’s a possibility yes they are uh defeated on as I like to say they haven’t won again but they they they’ve showed that they can compete and and play with anyone it’s just those small mistakes towards the end of the game that cost this team CA Chris Jones his job I’m sure when they look at film they say guys we’re right there but you guys just can’t continue making these bonehead plays we have opportunities to win every single game but we haven’t won them so now we got to figure it out they got rid of the head coach they got rid of the head coach slgm the next AG go are the players so hopefully those guys realize that eroy Simon who’s a very good friend of mine you know I sent him a text he’s saying man we’re gonna get this turned around of course he thinks that let’s hope it happens but if it doesn’t get turned around right away they will start making some tweaks within that within their personel they can’t stay Pat if you continue losing big reason why Chris Jones is gone so let’s hope they get it together sure G Roy and jerus they’re going to tweak a couple of things from what Chris Joan is doing because they have their own uh narrative their own things they want to create and let’s hope it works because as I alluded to earlier we can’t have teams just losing each and every each and every game let’s hope they figure it out and start winning some games well speaking of turning things around Milt uh we know you bleed blue a longtime bomber I mean you got to be fair when you’re talking about everybody on TSN there we go there we go um how uh how where are you at right now on the bombers after I mean an 0 and4 start that caught everybody off guard but two important wins to hopefully turn things around are you confident that things are going the right direction for the blue and gold right now I mean you start on four and you win two in a row you’re definitely going in the right direction it doesn’t matter how you win the games just win uh it was good to see Zach finally play some uh some some Zach uh Kars from the past footb ball that second half and that last game he really showed up it looks like they found one of the young receivers who can play I know it’s only one game but you go out there and have 200 yards you’re a pretty good football player and they’re going to be tested now their next four games I’m correct they got Saskatchewan Toronto BC a bu and then BC I mean they’re playing uh three upper echelon teams teams that are playing some good football so these next four games could determine a lot for this team the rest of the way but they’re going the right direction right now you win two games in a row after the starting on and four you’re definitely going in the right direction they just have to continue uh putting up those wins I’m hearing Lawler may be back soon so they have to be happy with the direction they’re going in right now to St KN and for so let’s hope they continue it they hopefully they continue playing well and Zach continue playing well because if he’s playing well the way Brady Oliva is running the way that defense is finally starting to come in his own you see uh Willie Jefferson making some plays Zack starts playing continue playing like that they can get back to where they’ve been uh where they were the last four years well and you know just to to piggyback off that I think I mean Zach’s performance in the game on Friday night in a game that literally had everything I mean a hell of a football game just even if you had no skin in the game just to watch I mean it was a wild one um he hadn’t looked like the guy that had been right there for the MLP for the last four years in the first month of the season now part of that was maybe some new receivers that he wasn’t particularly familiar with but I mean the Clock Was ticking I mean 0 and four is 0 and four and then they win a game without Zack to get to one and four to me I mean the bombers and Zach keros himself needed a big game and um and he delivered and at the same time you find some real legit chemistry with one of these new receivers that didn’t have the experience with him before in Ontario Wilson and maybe speak to it from a receiver if you’re getting the ball 16 times from a quarterback you’re doing something right especially a guy like Zach Kos and and it never happened to me Kahari or Kevin Glenn never threw me the ball 16 times I was kind of jealous but I mean that’s some confidence if you’re a young guy especially when you have a quarterback I don’t care how much success he’s had in the past he’s struggling this year and he’s finding that you’re going to make some plays he’s gonna keep feeding you and that’s exactly what happened you know uh Pokey as they call him his confidence started building Zach’s confidence started building him and next thing you know he’s catching passes all over the places short passes deep passes uh he couldn’t drop anything so that’s a good confidence booster when you know that you have an Allstar a future Mo uh Hall of Famer quarterback that’s thrown to this young receiver uh it builds that confidence and it helps the team out it helps him realize that we now we have another weapon now one of these young guys has finally stepped up and we can and we can rely will he have another game like that next week or ever in his career we don’t know but as long as you go out there and you continue shine and you continue making plays when you’re called on uh that’s something big and that goes a long way in development and and and the way his team is going to play uh in the future well and mil I mean with Dalton Chon being out for the season uh with Kenny Lawler going on the six game early on and without up until Friday any of the younger receivers stepping up we thought that your phone might have been ringing after your incredible performance in training camp was Kyle Walters sniffing around you know he he he he text me a couple of times I’m like no KY I don’t want to hear it man I was trying to get a contract in rookie camp and you didn’t want to do it and now you’re calling it’s too late now you couldn’t offer me enough but hey tell us about that experience though how much fun was that for you I’m I’m so thankful for for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for Cy and and and Wade and Mike O Shay and the coaching staff for giving me that opportunity I mean it it was something I’ve been I’ve been wanting to do since I turned 50 and I finally got the chance to do it when I was 54 I got out there and opportunity to run some routes the most exciting thing I did and everyone who knows me they know how much I love conditioning I got to do the conditioning testing I never got opportunity to do that when I was playing so the fact that I got to go out there and do it I mean it was a day that I I I’ll never forget like as I just alluded to I’m so thankful for the bomber organization uh for giving me that chance and it was a great it was great I still think about it today it was so much fun well you still got it and I can tell you that uh our entire chat was like keep them around let’s see what happens to the rest of Camp C can I play without getting hit if I can do that I’ll still be playing that’s why I retired when I did that getting hit thing I couldn’t do anymore hey Milt um big big game coming up this Friday bombers and Riders um thoughts on the Riders so far this season I mean the record’s good obviously they lost to BC on the week weekend um but they’re doing it with the backup quarterback um how impressed have you been with what Cory mace has done just in the culture that he seems to be starting up and and how much more dangerous is this Rider team that the bombers are going to see Friday as opposed to the one that sort of limped in losing seven in a row in their last two seasons to end their campaigns th th this is a different football team even without Trevor Harris this is a different football team because the other faets of their game are playing so well you know the defense uh the return game uh everything they’re doing is uh very uh complimentary to a Young quarterback he doesn’t have to go out there and try to do too much sometimes he does but he has to realize that uh and I mentioned this earlier when we were be they were playing BC they you were running against Vernon Adams Vernon Adams is running by himself because he’s good enough you can’t keep up with Vernon Adams but you have a relay team where you can hand your baton off to your defense off to your running game off to your special teams and that’s what Cory mace has created there he created an entire team that’s going to help that Young quarterback they’re going to be yes they’ll be better when they get Trevor Harris back but they’re good enough right now uh to beat just about anybody because of the people they surrounded that Young quarterback with so you got to be impressed with what they’re doing Winnipeg better understand that they’re going into a hostile environment I think that environment in Regina is back to being hostile and a team that H that’s hungry even though they lost that game they understand once they step on the field uh they have the ability and the Personnel to beat anybody so that’s going to be a great game it’s the first of three game against the Rough Riders and the bombers better understand that they’re going to have to have to have their A+ game on display if they want to win it well and you kind of laid out this next month for the bombers um you know ryers two against BC the Argos I mean these are some some tough uh tough matchups on the schedule going forward um how impressed have you been with the BC Lions so far this season and and as we sit here right now in the middle of July we all know things change and probably will but are they the team to beat right now or is it still Montreal despite losing last week for the first time when Cody Fardo got knocked out of the game it’s been BC for me since day one even when they they lost that first game even when Montreal was winning you know keeping their winning streak going it it’s been and it’s not more so than BC is Vernon Adams I think this is his year I think he’s going to win every single War I got them winning the great cup I got him winning the MVP the great cup the M mop and I joke around like I got him playing so well he’s going to be voted the top Canadian this is his year this is his opportunity I think he’s putting everything together even after uh throwing for 451 yards and I guarantee you he said this he left some points on the field he made some mistakes and that’s hard to say when you throw for 450 51 yards so I think he’s putting everything together I think he’s realizing how great of a talent he is in his league and I think this year everything is going to come together and the BC Lions are going to walk away as the great Cup champion um what uh what do you think the bombers need to do over the course of this next couple weeks getting ready for that big game here uh August 1st between these two clubs to uh you know to give them the best chance like I mean if you’re mik o sha and you’re looking at your team right now knowing you’ve got two games coming up against BC where are you focusing on to get better to give you a chance to uh Remain the kings of the West well I think the main thing is with those younger guys just keep giving them experience it’s not like you’re going to make some whale changes they don’t need to you know they I think they found their formula for success I mean I think it starts with that running game with Brady Ola yes they they’ve lost some offensive lineman couple of guys were older but when he’s in the back field he doesn’t need much when he gets the ball rolling downhill he’s tough allow Zach he planned well hopefully he gets back to what he was in the past and just like I say those younger guys just getting experience uh we know they can play otherwise they wouldn’t be on this professional level playing but playing uh every single week at a consistent base and come comes with just allowing him to play so uh they’re going to get better because those young guys are going to get better as we talked about they may have found another young receiver who can play they may be getting Kenny Lawler back maybe the first or second time they play BC that’s going to help them out and everyone just continue stepping up their game and they’ll be okay so they have everything in place they just has to make sure that it all comes together cannot wait for a Friday night our first double header of the year on TSN we got this rematch between the Elks and the red blacks at six then an 8:30 start here in Winnipeg for the bombers and Riders from Regina hey mil before we go I know we’ve been talking football but uh I know you’re a big soccer guy did you watch uh did you watch much of the Euro did you watch much of the Copa I I missed these games already it was such a fun month for for people that appreciate the sport when I cross the border and come back home I am a soccer dead my kids they they deal in European football not American football so that’s that’s all I watch all all the all the uh Euro all the Copa everything and my youngest son of course Colin who was born in uh Winnipeg he was disappointed when Canada didn’t make it to the finals because he wanted to brag to his older brother who was born in the states how much Canada is better than the US and soccer so we watched all all the games is very entertaining I must say that I mean I still enjoy football but I enjoy watching soccer very much because I really understand the game so uh every single time I get to watch it especially at that level uh I’m really excited to watch it well yeah and I mean listen for those of us here following the Canadian Men’s National Team I mean you know we really were not even a significant player for so long and then you have that incredible run up to the World Cup winning conaf qualifying for Qatar and now this new coach and with the US team and kind of disarray right now uh there’s a lot of people that are saying wait a second why the hell is Jesse March coaching the Canadian team and not us uh but we’re taking for him and we just what a he’s only been on the job for two months or so and to have this sort of a result is uh I mean it’s just so exciting I think if you follow this team knowing that we’re going to be hosting the World Cup in 2026 and it seems like our team is really on the right track to truly contending with some of the top tier teams at least in the world right it’s so exciting to see uh as you just mentioned know Canada being on the soccer map it just wasn’t there this was the first year they qualifi for the cop and then they almost made it to the finals you know that that’s big that goes a long way in development when young kids see that they say hey I want to start playing soccer because one day I dream of playing on that on that National level so it’s good the US is trying to steal the Canadian coach but it seems like he’s going to stay there he understands that he has a lot going on with those young core guys uh along with some veterans so it’s good to see Canada uh making their way onto the scene as far as men’s soccer we know the the women’s have been there for a while but it’s good to see these men finally stepping up and and and establish them and it’s going to be exciting to see what they can do in World Cup when a lot of these games will be in their backyard so uh let’s hope that they continue develop continue winning games because as they say soccer is the World sport well and you know you mentioned and the women uh we uh we don’t have to wait too long Olympics coming up and uh the best of the best will be there Canada and the USA maybe we’ll get that rivalry going at it again and uh you can have a civil war in your household as well over some women’s soccer as well hey Milt keep up the great work on the panel thanks so much for doing this can’t wait to see you and the Gang get after it on the weekend on TSN and of course the bombers and Riders to kick off in Regina on the weekend go bombers go bombers go bombers looking good thanks pal all right take care have a good one oh the one and only Milt steagle what a pleasure it has having Milt on the program and uh you know re it is funny uh you know as he mentioned that you know when he when he goes back across the border he is the international football guy if you will as opposed to The American or Canadian football guy he is here and he’s told us that for a long time his son’s got involved in soccer at a very early age and even though he is this uh grid iron Legend still a lot of knowledge about the beautiful game as they say man he bring it or what today every single time good uh what a great guest talking you know Canadian football you can do American football and yes uh soccer European football so uh great to hear his thoughts on the bombers what’s going around in the league uh changes in Edmonton uh again I seen seeing the comments in the chat phis fabulous interview s say what a great Ambassador for Winnipeg you think mil just walks around Atlanta wearing Winnipeg Blue Bombers gear I would be surprised all time he’s probably got tons in his closet I’m sure that might be why he went to rookie Camp just so he could get the full you know get the new t-shirts the hats maybe you know what one of the best parts in kind of getting invited to Camp you get the gear right anyways big thanks to Milt for jumping on that was a heck of a lot of fun Hey listen we are going to talk to Mike in just a minute um and kind of get more into the vly signing and a little bit of jets offseason talk uh but we talked about Ontario Wilson Pokey who was the man for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and he spoke yesterday um let’s just hear a little bit from uh the breakout star of Friday’s win for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Ontario Wilson this is uh this is onario talking about how his phone blew up over the weekend after he blew up all over the Calgary stamp Peter defense uh it’s it’s pretty much still was blowing up yeah it still was blowing up a lot of notifications uh I seen CFL posted me on the on their Instagram so yeah so your number of followers went way up yeah it went up a little bit had a little junk just you know rewind to that night and talk about uh your performance your Breakout game uh well just going back to that night I just feel like I was just really consistent and reliable like whenever the ball came my way I was able to like pull it in and just catch it and make the plays that came what does a game like that do for your confidence uh it really just boosters my confidence a lot like being a rookie not knowing whether like where where you fit in this offense or the team just being able to like show people like you still can play it you can play this game so a little bit more now he’s been referred to often as Ontario Wilson but you see the bombers put it out Pokey Wilson he known as Pokey he was asked on how he got the nickname Pokey so when I was a baby my grandma said I look like a Pokemon and it just stuck with Pokey so it’s not Pokey with a Y then is it just Pokey with I mean it’s with a why but yeah it started out as Pokemon then they just stuck with Pokey what Pokemon did she think you look like I’m not sure I have to answer her it’s a good reference for that’s pretty good big J bck coming in with the question we all needed to know and uh well the funny isn’t that the theory um for the Pokemon you got to catch them all yes the Calgary Stampeders were unable to catch Pokey Wilson 13 catches 201 yards and absolutely incredible performance and uh obviously people still talking about that crazy TD catch he had in the end zone despite pass interference here’s how Wilson saw that one going down uh just the focus honestly uh watching the ball in the air just focusing on it and being able to pull it in like the guy literally tackled me and I still caught it when I go back and look at it still I’m still like dang how how did I grab that out the air you had to reach back toward your feet too with a guy with I think it was Randall all over you are is there a play that stands out for you it’s going I really like that one actually uh th this touchdown play it really stands out cuz it’s my first touchdown and then with all the accessories on the touchdown with the flag and the great catch and all that so it just great yeah you can uh I think you can safely go and get your 80 Jersey bomber fans if uh you were looking for a new addition to your game day wardrobe onario Wilson here to stay here’s one more just from Zach keros um and this is after Friday’s game just on Wilson’s transformation since the start of Camp to uh the standout offensive player in the Canadian Football League last week yeah I I just think reps are invaluable you know so you know it’s not just learning the offense on paper it’s getting out there and repping it over and over again you know it’s it’s always tough in pro football you don’t get a lot of opportunities to to throw dos versus Air versus the with or with the guys you know especially in this league it’s a shorter practice um a lot of guys have to play special teams you know so it’s always tough to get you know even routs for a air with them so I think the more and more reps those guys get uh you know with all of us quarterbacks the better feel will have for them and just the better feel they’ll have for the wideness of the field using the waggle etc etc so when did you start to see the light come on for him then I think it was like I think it was the first Ottawa game uh after that in Prim ice just uh you know just figuring out the waggle and then moving him on the football um threw him a couple you know pretty much down south routes you know playing on the football is like you’re down south I like wow was texting DT the other night I think we may have I think we have a good one here with uh with poke and he said he agreed and then uh I just walked by do he goes I was thinking about you the whole game see we got a legit guy here so it’s pretty cool all right well uh Good Vibes in the bomber room and they look to continue that into Regina to take on the Riders on Friday night by the way stick around end of the program we will raid the Huddle Ed Tate his guest will be Nick demsky over on the bomber channel so we’ll send everyone over there and we can say hi to Nick Eddie and uh and the Bomber Crew um we are going to get to Mike McIntyre though right now but as we finish up our bomber report all of our bomber conversations brought you by the great people apparel.com all right right we’ll talk a little Golf and the Open Championship later on first up though let’s welcome in Mike McIntyre from the Winnipeg Free Press Mike what’s going on how are you I’m doing terrific hus I’m in uh I’m I’m well into the midst of holidays here week two of of two I’ve got more holidays coming up later this summer but got three rounds of golf in last week um you know here I was I I thought that the more I played golf the better golfer I would become that’s kind of not true but it’s actually happening is the more golf I play just the more sore and stiff I get the day after golfing um uh but yeah so the game has not really rounded into uh into form although I did play a a fun scramble last week uh posted a few pictures on social media it’s the most adorable charity golf tournament in Winnipeg maybe in the world it’s run by the good Folks at the Canadian animal Blood Bank um people don’t know what they do animals can donate blood just like humans dogs need life-saving blood transfusions and uh they’re involved in that great charity and anyways the golf tournament which was at Wildwood dogs were not only welcome but encouraged to join you on the course so we had uh we had a beautiful black lab named Arya who was part of our forsome and and I’m not this is a completely true story so scramble of course four people hit their shots and you’re only playing one the arya’s owner who was golfing would let Arya like run down the Fairway and she would go retrieve the balls that that we that weren’t going to be hit and then she’d bring them back to us like the ultimate the ultimate caddy there’s sereo comes through as always that’s Arya right there the black lab for those watching on the live stream absolute sweetheart uh so yeah I mean and it was great she’d bring you the ball back and of course it would be cleaned because it was in her mouth so you get the the dog slobber get a bit of a ball wash going on with it and uh did AR pick up any balls and drop them on the green when this forest and needed it no we you know we were saying because our group we didn’t do that well I mean in a scramble we were we made eight it was a nine-hole scramble we made eight pars and one bogey so that’s not great uh but we said that that we should have trained or maybe in the future if she could have moved the ball instead bringing them back to us to actually move them forward um let’s the ruling on that yeah I don’t know if there would be an interesting uh interesting uh ruling for a for a golf uh professional for sure but yeah it was a great great time so looking forward to a little more great weather of course other than the thunderstorms that seem to be happening every day but keeping one eye on the Sports World of course uh you know I expected this was going to be a fairly quiet time for the Jets which by time the holiday days to be where they were so far nothing too Blockbuster has happened that but villy signed yesterday and that’s obviously another another item off Kevin Cheval off’s to-do list yeah well I mean let’s get right into it with the analyst signing um you know he was in RFA um you know did not play almost at all in the NHL last year we knew about the injury two years 800 Grand I mean it seems like listen if he can come in and fulfill his potential in the Jet Blue Line um that that is going to be a perfect example of one of those contracts you really need to have right now in the National Hockey League and get the most out of players on ELC or quote unquote under team control and uh I mean listen uh there’s there’s no other option right now um Billy hanel is going to get a run as a Winnipeg jet this year and that was just about coming out and proving that he can fulfill his potential in The Bigs yeah he he absolutely is getting a run as a jet because again I think most people recognize this that villy Hana will have to go on waivers uh this fall if the Jets were to try to send him to the Manatoba moose and a guy with his talent with his pedigree who’s making $25,000 above the league minimum which is what his contract is um you know we’ve already seen in this market uh saw Jonathan kevich get claimed on waivers by the Montreal Pro Canadians we saw Declan Chism get claimed on waivers last year by the Minnesota Wild um and no offense to either of those guys but they’re not villy Hana in terms of the upside the potential the pedigree my point being that if the Jets were to put villy hanala on waivers at any point next season uh there would be there would be a lineup of teams putting in a claim he he’d probably wouldn’t get past you know the number one or two claimer on the list at that particular time so he’s going to be with the Jets next season whether that’s in a role as as you know a top six guy regular or a bubble guy you know 67 um bit of a job share like we’ve seen in the past happen sometimes around here obviously you know that situation will play itself out injuries will be a big part of it one thing and and you mentioned that he didn’t play in the NHL last year of course that broken ankle in the last preseason game was was a Crusher for him but the Jets for all their injuries they had up front last year like it it’s remarkable how healthy they were on the blue line um they really were and the only way even guys like Logan Stanley you know got into the lineup were because they started healthy scratching like Nate Schmidt at times and of course look at a guy you know Kyle kappo biano who ended up being the ah defenseman of the year who had spent the entire previous season with the Jets he never got a sniff of the NHL last year either because the Jets were so healthy so you know obviously the Jets would would hope that that continues next season but what are the odds that the NHL team would go two straight years without you know really a scratch on their defenseman the only injury that happened on the blue line last year came to Brennan Dylan in what was that game four uh I think it was game four right in Denver with the um with the cut hand but so they were a picture of Health I fully expect we’re going to see you know what would be the over under I would say let’s set it at 40 games and I’ll take the over that vly Hana will play more than 40 games AKA more than half the season next year and you’re right about his contract hust like if he could there’s there’s a prime example for a guy that you hope could outperform that contract and it goes back to I think I mentioned this to you a few weeks ago something Kelly MC wom said that really stuck with me talking about how Vegas won the Stanley Cup and and how hard it is to kind of keep that together in the in the current salary cap era and he said that you need you need a number of players to outperform their contracts in order to win a cup uh and so a guy like vly hanala basically this is like an entrylevel deal because it’s barely above the minimum that’s a really affordable Bridge deal for the Jets and an important piece of business to get taken care of they’ve only got two rfas left Simon lenmark is one of them I got to think that that’s that’s probably in the top you know drawer of Kevin chalf right now and they just haven’t filed the paperwork like there’s not going to be anything that that’s probably a league minimum deal for Simon lenmark obviously the big one is Cole Peretti and I suspect we’ll get into that a bit more this week H isn’t it interesting to see Quinton bfield sign that extension yesterday I think last week you and I talked about the Anton londell extension and I said I wonder if that could be a potential model well now you can add Byfield to the list of a similar kind of age player on a trajectory that obviously the Kings have decided they don’t want to bridge him they’re going to reward him but it’s a deal that you know if Byfield continues the way he’s going to should age really really well for Los Angeles yeah well listen we’ll get to the Peretti and Byfield comparisons in just a second but before we move on from villy I’ll actually like if I’m setting that line I’m putting it above 40 I’m looking at you know 50 55 something like that like to actually be in the lineup obviously injuries can skew that but it does sort of look like it tell me if this sounds familiar a battle for the third pairing leftand defense uh position between villy hanel and Logan Stanley yeah is that a day now yeah we do have a new coach and Scott O’Neal uh with an entirely new coaching staff so I I mean I think there is a caveat people often will just think and talk about these things as if it’s just continuation from last year which which isn’t the case and it’s important to note um but what do you make of that the fact that you know here we are again both of these players drafted later on in the first round yeah they’re now both in identical situations with two-year deals moving forward I’ve often said that some internal competition is actually a really good thing for a team um and you hope it brings out the best in both um I would just say this I think based on last year and again granted different coach but Arie was certainly part of that in those rooms the fact that it looked like Philly had made the team and was on that spot right at the beginning I think that maybe gives him a leg up at a certain point they have to be able to see what this young man can do he’ll never be more prepared than he’s been than he is right now he’s spent the time in the American Hockey League he’s had some tough setbacks Now’s the Time to see what he can do but I do Wonder just about that I mean it really does break down right now unless something happens and you’re playing a guy on the opposite side you’ve got Colin Miller Neil pan is still here this probably looks like it’s a six7 battle between the little guy and the big guy yeah I will say one thing Billy can do that say Logan Stanley I don’t believe he can do or has done is is play that opposite side like villy has played the right side um with the Moose um but you’re right I mean you know here here’s the thing to me about vly Hana like you look at when he’s played in the NHL very few games obviously none last year um usually it’s where he’s had a stretch of really strong play in the A and then he’s been called up and then he gets a game or two and then that’s it and I think you know if you’ve watched his game in the NH like it probably doesn’t translate as well as it should because this is a guy who probably knows that he only had a game or two to really show and maybe he tried to do too much the nerves what he hasn’t had H really is an extended period where he knew that you know even if he made a mistake or something that he had a bit a Runway to work with I think that changes this year and I do think that that should allow us to see probably the the the better potential of what this player can be at the NHL level and you know you look at the Jets and what did they what did they have trouble at times doing last year transitioning out of their own end moving the puck quickly and efficiently um what are things that vly Hana does really well those exact things and you know Logan Stanley has some some attributes but those aren’t them like we’re talking about two very different players here it’s not like it’s two players that are kind of do the same thing and flip a coin like so depending on how Scott O’Neal wants to construct his lineup and maybe it’ll have to do with you know matchups who they’re playing um but I got to think that there’s a place for vly hanala as as an efficient Puck mover uh and and a really smooth skater and all the things we’ve seen him do the other thing H like he was quarterbacking the Moose Power Play you look at the Jets now like Nate Schmidt’s gone and and there was a guy when Nate Schmidt was in the lineup last year he was often on that second pair often it was him and pan like I got to think there’s there’s a spot on the power play here as well what’s one of the things that the Jets a real weakness last season the power play like to me and Logan Stanley’s not going on the power play so I got to think that that’s another in for him as well hey just that power play for a second um yeah I I here’s I’ll throw this out because been thinking about this more and more since the Miller signing yeah there’s a good chance that Billy hanel and Colin Miller will be that third pairing I could also see both of them being on the second power play yeah I mean I think Philly is a player that is probably best suited to somewhat quarterback it but the one thing that this team has missed ever since buffin and L left town oncom a guy exactly with the guy with the cannon back there and and Miller is that guy and honestly I think if those players play together um it it probably gives them a little bit more comfort with each other to potentially make that second unit a little bit more and I thought about that I wouldn’t rule out either of those guys potentially playing together both on a pairing as well as on the second power play unit well and the other thing that might do is if let’s say then Neil Pan’s not on the power play so you’re managing his minutes a little more um you know Neil Pan’s out there on the PK um so maybe you get a more efficient Neil pan as well there’s a guy who seemed to you know really struggle at times last year so I agree I think if Colin Miller’s in the lineup he’s certainly getting a look there because as you say that shot which we never really got to see last year no like he played five games and and I think those five games like I I I’d have to go back and look at the game sheets but I’d be surprised if his total power play minutes in those five games added up to more than two minutes like I think he barely saw the ice because you know the top unit obviously in a short sample he came in as a depth guy at the deadline to a team that had a healthy blue line and a team that was winning hockey games although I mean he was there during that little rut there before they rattled off eight in a row but I just mean like Miller’s situation coming in to a team that he has some familiarity with but you’re there in training camp you’re there on day one building with those entire group with that entire group I mean I certainly think he’ll be giving an opportunity to I mean to get in on the power play to see if he can make a difference and again when we talk there’s a bunch of things that didn’t go well for the power play unit overall last year but the lack of a real shooting threat on both of the power plays I think has been an issue and I would be stunned if he didn’t get an opportunity to do it but bringing it back to villy I don’t think there’s any doubt if you want to get the most out of this player and put him in an opportunity to succeed in an area that had been somewhat of an ailles heel for a very good hockey team through the regular season last year this is it and you know if he can play in the teens when it comes to minutes at five on five and contribute on the power play I mean this is um you know the potential for him to really hit the ground running and I think you know have a have a path to really succeed um and build on everything that he’s done to get to this point and finally get this shot as an everyday NHL or assuming that he’s in the top six once the dust settles out of Camp yeah an interesting note about his contract uh it’s a oneway which means you know again I don’t expect he’s playing in the AHL at all next year but one way by definition it is because if he’s at probably bye-bye right it is interesting the number hus came in below his qualifying offer um like he could he would have made more money on his qualifying offer the problem is is the qualifying offer was a two-way and so you know that that obviously explains why they did the deal that they did but I must admit I I thought his number would come in closer to a million um so you know we’re talking about nickel and Diamond here when it comes to the cap and the Jets are not they’re not cash strapped in the sense that they have to make sure every penny counts but I thought that was the number surprised me is what I’ll say it was a little lower than I thought and great for the Jets um you know Vil’s now got two years and and the Hope obviously from the Jets perspective is he’s a regular over these next two seasons and you know we’ll look back at this contract and say my goodness that they had this guy at 800,000 like that what a steal and then he’ll parlay that into something a lot more significant you know two summers from now that would be the the win-win for both the player and the team and we’ll see if he can do it yeah um but as I said the the He he’ll be a guy that will be getting a ton of attention come training camp and in the pre-season I think earlier on but I mean if he does anything close to what he was able to do last year um he’ll earn a spot again and uh all the fans if pH will finally get a chance to see him get a nice run in but you know there will be still legit competition I mean Logan Stanley’s still around but you do make a great point the fact that no one was ever out of the lineup due to injury I think kind of complicated things quite a bit for guys that were somewhat on the periphery or the bubble of the lineup and I mean certainly not hoping that happens but I think reality will tell you that you know it’s more likely than not that you know I if anything you’ll be bringing some guys up to play as opposed to having guys sit forever in the playoffs up not getting in just on the blue line for a minute you mentioned Neil pan what do you make of pan situation coming into this season I mean obviously there’s a big section of the fan base that you know feels and listen I’m with them I mean particularly in the playoffs down the stretch he wasn’t good enough I thought he bounced back quite well at the beginning of last season but when they really needed it it wasn’t quite there he’s now in a contract here um you know whether that contract is with the Winnipeg Jets or elsewhere um there’s a real onus to have a great great season um I mean is he a top four defenseman playing regularly or how might his role change or or maybe more importantly what does he have to do to maintain his spot in the lineup and do they have other options right now or will they have another option shall we say on the right side by the time we start playing hockey for real well I think looking at the depth chart I mean it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a guy like Colin Miller could potentially you know flop flipflop with you know could we see Samberg and Miller actually be the second pair at some point and Neil Pan’s down to a third pairing role which I mean to be perfectly honest might better suit him at this stage of the game um I’ll say this about Neil pan I think it’s well documented that he had a really tough year last year emotionally I mean everyone knows obviously what happened with with his you know basically his best friend Adam Johnson um who died that that horrific uh uh on Ice accident uh over in in England and um you know Neil Pon eventually opened up about what that how that impacted him I got to think that and if you look back H like right after that happened there was a stretch of play where Neil pan was just playing out of his mind and I think that was just pure adrenaline um but then you know I think as time went on um we saw his play dip again and you know I got to think that coming into a contract year is is a good thing for Neil Pion look at the last time he was in a contract year he had a heck of a season with the Jets and he parlayed that into the current contract that we’re talking about the one that a lot of people I think feel is uh um exce the the value that he brings on the ice so I have to think that that that’s a good thing I mean we often see players in contract years kind of rise to the occasion um they’ve got even more to play for than usual um but I do Wonder as you say if if we see his role change a little bit and I think that also could be a good thing maybe there’s not the same amount of pressure on him um you know he’s also a guy again who logs heavy minutes um not the biggest guy and we know he’s like we know he’s played through a lot of injuries in the past and maybe there’s been times that you know you wonder why are the coaches even playing him like wouldn’t it be best to sit him down for a bit to let him rest up um so I I think you know assuming he comes a camp fully healthy you should be very motivated um I think that a good thing and you know he’s he can’t have been immune to all the trade talk as well about him um you know he he’s got to hear all the things that we’ve heard and there’s been a lot of of speculation and of course as we sit here on July 16th still a Winnipeg jet could that change between now and and um Mid October I suppose he didn’t get bought out there was some bi out talk right Nate Schmidt’s the one that got bought out they didn’t buy out Neil Pon um there have been trade discussions behind the scenes very likely but nothing’s materialized so I just think add it all up and he’s got to be a player who’s going to come to Camp you know probably really looking forward to a clean slate that this new year brings but also the the potential uh for what it means for his future because he’s playing for his next contract right now and that might ultimately benefit the Jets well and he’s also playing to uh you know earn the trust of a new coaching staff and I mean the guy that’s going to be working most closely with the defense wasn’t here last year right um and from an organizational standpoint I mean coaches aren’t dumb they realize they’ll come in even if nothing said to them if you got a guy making 7 million on a six-year deal he’s probably getting out on the ice before the guy you signed for two years at 1.3 right but in this situation on an expiring contract with everything else I mean I think the onus is going to be on you know all the players to earn their spot in the lineup listen we know Dello and morresy are going to be the top pairing other than that I mean I think it is somewhat murky um and that is a good thing for some of the younger players maybe that haven’t had a chance to play regularly beforehand and to be honest Mike just you know finishing up the Blue Line you know we’re going to focus on Billy and Logan Stanley and camp and you know how Colin Miller looks and of course Neil pan where is his game at I’m not sure there’s a player that the team is going to need to rely on more and get a you know a hit that next level right than Dylan samber I mean Dylan samri is the one guy that actually projects to be playing in the top four regularly consistently for the first time and great I’m certainly excited to see it but at the same time that does come as we looked at Pon I mean sometimes playing those big minutes in a top four role um can take its toll so I would say it’s a huge season coming up for Dylan Samberg and if he can come through continue a forward Pro progression that is going to be the best news for the Winnipeg Jets yeah and that of course uh that’s opportunity has opened up for Dylan Samberg because they did not resign Brenan Dylan who you know was holding down that spot that there’s a veteran that is now gone so Dylan Samberg moves up and you know the trickle down is a guy like villy now can can potentially compete for that third spot along with as you say Logan Stanley uh in the mix there but yeah that that’s part of what the Jets have talked about here is you know obviously brandan Dylan and his salary and and what he ultimately signed in New Jersey that’s money the Jets felt that that you know they they obviously believe that they have a guy in Dylan Samberg who can handle that increased role and so he will get that chance and the Jets you know they save a lot of money uh by not filling that spot whether it was with brandan Dylan or someone else at that price point uh the Jets have now opened up a spot and and I mean you look at what’s likely to happen here they basically replace brandan Dylan’s money with like villy hana’s money so that’s a significant uh savings towards the capop and again the Jets are not I mean regardless of how the col Peretti contract plays out the Jets will have some cap room here um if it’s a bridge deal for Cole pretti they’re likely to have a lot of cap room if it’s a long-term extension a little less uh but the point being the Jets uh the Jets have managed their salary quite well here and they needed to because don’t forget coming into this this season the Conor heluk and Mark shley extensions kick in plus they now have dead money for two players think I added it up the other day hus the Jets are paying Blake wheeler and Nate Schmidt think it’s just over $5 million this year to not play for them um the wheeler money will come off the books next year which will open up another little bit of of cash a revenue source and then the Schmidt um his his stays on for one more year but you know the Jets have obviously had to keep an eye on the cap and it’s probably a good thing that it went up to $88 million this year it’s given them a little more flexibility well let’s talk about Peretti uh and a potential deal for him um well first off listen Quinton bfield drafted second in the 2020 draft Cole Peretti 10 um fetty last year would he have 19 and 19 in 71 games for 38 points Quinton bfield had his breakout season 20 goals 35 assists for 55 points similarly did go through a long sort of stretch in the second half of the Season where he did sort of hit the wall but he gets what a five-year extension at$ 6.25 million um what can we take away from the Byfield extension as it pertains to Peretti and and where are you at right now do you think I think it’s more likely that he just takes a bridge deal and sees what happens or tries to get more money in the short term with a longer term deal that kind of sets him up for this next stage of his career well first off the Byfield deal to me that almost puts a ceiling on like if Peretti were to do a deal this summer like the the Byfield deal to me that’s the ceiling now um and you just read up the numbers you know Quinton bfield was drafted uh before Cole Peretti put out more goals more assists more points last year so I I don’t see in in what Universe Cole Peretti would be able you know if in a similarly structured contract in terms of term how he’d be able to get more money and that’s great news for the Jets like to me the Byfield number that’s a lot lower than I thought it would be that’s a great deal for the Los Angeles Kings and and you know that’s one to me that as early as this season may look like a steal for Los Angeles let alone four five years from now um but I do think hen you know just talking to people whether it’s it’s hockey folks or colleagues there’s certainly an and I think the fact his agent is Kurt overheart has something to do with this um this is not an agent who typically rushes into these things like the bridge deal kind of slow play has typically been Kurt overhears Mo and so I I think based on that like I think it’s still more likely than not that this is a bridge situation and not long term I I think that’s because that’s probably what Peretti and his agent would want I think if you’re the Jets you’d absolutely be willing like sign us up right now to get a a long-term extension in place because I think the number well it might kind of be a bit of stick ER shock like right now coming up although again he had 19 goals last year that’s that’s not nothing uh but I think the number now would obviously go oh well that’s a bit of a hit but again the the you know where how he’s trending how he’s progressing and how they Envision using them in this lineup that’s a deal that they would take you know a hundred times out of a hundred because they they believe it will age really well I just don’t think at this point peret you know I think he probably wants a little more Runway including knowing he’s going to get more of an opportunity this year new coach um pop six kind of regular player Scott O’Neil’s already said that Crystal Clear he’s playing in our top six um you know so if you’re Cole pretti and you’re coming off 19 goals and you think you know what I might score 30 this year like uh and then maybe I’ll follow that up with 35 or something um I got to think and again the cap is going to continue to go up here his agent is probably telling him let’s just be patient here because that patience may ultimately pay off you know in in a year or two from now with an even bigger deal than I could get you today the the only the only argument I’ll make on the other side is injuries is to well that’s I mean you cannot cannot Overlook that it’s history for sure if you have an injury history and I keep coming back to this and you’ve got here’s a 2-year deal at 3 million a season or here’s a six-year deal at Six five and a half or six yeah yeah or 7-year deal at 6 million a season like saying thanks but no thanks to 36 million especially when you had a tough time staying healthy before last season I think gives you pause the other thing though Mike is that Cole and KO and everyone around him is looking around at other of his contemporaries in their draft classes and this is the trend I mean this is what is happening right now and I don’t think that that happens in a vacuum either and you know you’re sitting there going well wait a second all of these other players are getting bigger raises now and are being paid you know in accordance of where they are in the lineup do I really want to aisk it and spend two more years trying to get to the point where I get this bigger deal and the other thing is I mean listen for a player like Cole’s 22 right y um yeah he’s born on New Year’s Day so he’s 22 right now you signed a six-year deal I mean you’re deal 28 years old absolutely and I thought morat did a good job of kind of comparing the the money and says it doesn’t change that much over the course of the term right if you do the bridge otherwise so the more I think about it again this is taking the overheard situation maybe out of it because I obviously I don’t know what the you know the the nature of the relationship with Chevy and the team is after some of the things that have happened in other years Ruba cop yeah but I think that there’s a lot of a lot of reason to look at this situation and says it actually makes sense for both sides to figure something out right with some term that buys a couple years of unrestricted free agency and and you know and pays him in accordance to where he’s going to be in the lineup um for the next number of seasons and there’s a degree of risk as you’ve outlined for sure for col Peretti to to not do that at this point for those reasons H I like I mean anything could happen they could announce the extension this afternoon but I do wonder if this is not going to drag out a bit and not to the point that you know we’re talking about a a training camp absence or something but I do wonder if if um if this could stretch you know well through the rest of the summer and we might still be talking about Cole Peretti and what that next deal looks like you know with training camp just around the corner because I think this is obviously a very big decision um but to your point being that he’s 22 and again as long as this isn’t an eight-year deal um the trend has been like that five six year that that that still keeps you in your Prime and the chance to then really you know strike a mega deal and so you you kind of get to cash in twice as a young player here um and so I got to think that that’s you know because if if he goes two years now he’s 24 right so now at that point you can’t Bridge him again so now you’re 24 so now you’re talking unless it’s like a three or four year deal at the 24 year and why would a team do that that walks you right into free agency you’re looking to obviously lock up a 24 year old a core player to a long-term deal but now that’s taking you like into your into your 30s and then all of a sudden maybe it’s a whole different world coming out of that deal than it would be if you did it right now so there’s a lot to consider for sure uh from both the team and the player and the agent uh and that’s why I do wonder if this might uh be an ongoing storyline as we progress through the summer Mike enjoy holidays so we’ll talk to you next week thanks for doing this you bet hus all the best oh but long you train day in and day out learning new techniques approaching New Concepts and on with the always entertaining Kenny Kim on back nine bets also does a ton of work studying the golf game over at roto world he is the 2023 fswa golf writer of the Year host to back night bets joining us for the first time on wst is Byron lindu Byron it is great to have you on the program what’s up wow well after that intro and all those ads and the pizzas and the sauces on the wings I am ready to rock and roll for the Open Championship you are speaking my love language to me um let’s let’s talk some golf baby golf beers Wings Pizza I think we’re we’re all in the right spot um Hey listen you know just before we get to you know kind of the players that we like and what we’re looking at I wanted to ask you about you know just the difference between the British Open and everything else we see in North America over the course of the Season like and we’ll focus on TR obviously because this is where it’s playing but I mean when you’re looking at handicapping a field making picks trying to evaluate how things will fall out I mean what is so unique about the Open Championship as it pertains to everything else and and how does that maybe change your research and the way you look at things sure I’ve been saying it all week if you find me betting a player that hasn’t finished second in a major prior to this I’m being kidnapped because since 2012 no Open championship winner has had a major finish worse than second he’s either finished second or first in a prior major to get the job done and I think you have to have that major pedigree at the open and that kind of is paralleled by the austa golf course you know the Masters so those two venues major pedigrees you have to have contended in a major to do good stuff you know that the US Open renowned for a little more wild cards you know but um this year we’re going to deep deep dive into some guys with second places or wins so you it’s funny because I mean if you look at the majors so far this year we’ve got Scotty Xander who was the ultimate bridesmaid finally got on top um and then the to Shambo show uh so I guess we shouldn’t be spending too much time looking down at the 125 to one guys I mean this is a big boy Challenge and it’ll be a big boy winner do you think it’s a big boy challenge but there’s some names in the 120s in the in the 70s in the 200s that have second place finishes in Majors you know so if you’re looking to kind of just take a flyer on a few guys I’ve got a guy that I’ll be naming at 220 to1 who’s finished second like three times in his PGA Tour career so just trying to find the value there but also at the same time I think a big boy wins at this um well as far as the course goes and you know the challenge which is unique in golf what are we looking for in a player like what are the boxes that the guys need to take to like never mind winning the tournament contending being significant players on Sunday afternoon on the back nine yes so it’s funny that you say the back nine because the back nine is completely different to the front nine so you have to check even more boxes for this Open Championship as well because the course requires tons of birdies in the opening stretch and then you got to make sure you’re avoiding bogeys on the back nine when things get a bit more tricky the holes get a bit longer they get a bit more narrow and the penalties for errand drives are even more severe so I think really looking at at guys that are well-rounded golfers we’re looking for that and I think keeping your ball in play is going to be very very important this week and I think once again I’ll be using Strokes gain from all the majors because with the live guys in the field it’s tough to kind of compare stats across the two tours especially with some DP World Tour guys so any major track record and major Strokes gained will be useful my metrics this week hey by the way I’m looking at the chat our our boy Joey panks is here Byron and Kenny are the best a big fan of of your program and panks is also asking about the wst DK open contest Remis is making it as we speak so uh if you’re in the wst league check the lobby we will get to that right away and make sure you get in before uh before it is filled so Baron when we look at this this odds board uh no surprise it starts with Scotty sheffler I see I’m looking at Kolb you know he was at plus 525 it’s actually to 550 right now I mean this is such a the funny thing is this is a bigger number than we’ve seen him in some other Majors but he has been playing at a level uh that is I mean untouchable when he’s on what do you make of Scotty Sheffer as the favorite right now I mean it’s hard to hold your nose and drop it in a field like this with 5 to one or five and a half to one but there’s a reason why he is what do you make of sheffler coming into this weekend as the favorite I think this week he’s the least favorite of all the type of majes because he’s never really shown the propensity to really Thrive yeah I think his best finish was his first one which he finished eth outside that he hasn’t got inside the top 20 again so he he doesn’t quite fancy see these venues where the luck of the bounds kind of rolls out you know like he needs to have shity that if he misses the Fairway he’s going to have a thick patchy cabbage type rough to deal with not some sort of gorge Bush or a walk down kind of area where you can get lucky where I think we saw this at the US Open his driving ability at the US Open was really poor compared to what he’s like shown Us in the past and I think that had kind of a link style feel to it with the with the you know the weeds and stuff growing on the sides of the fairways where you can’t quite see where the Fairway actually is he has a tough time dealing with that so I’m quite cool just leaving him off the card yes I’m a little scared but there’s there’s some other guys that have shown some better upside in some open championships in the past well and and listen full disclosure I mean I didn’t have I didn’t have any money on Rory last time out and I still felt like I had lost the biggest bet of my life I mean just anyone with a pulse of a heart had to feel for what was one of the worst chokes I’ve ever seen in my life this is a guy that it’s been a long time since he’s won a major he’s consistently contending he wins everything else I I have no idea what to expect from Rory whether this brings out the best in him or he’s emotionally crushed from what happened at the end of round number four last time out where are you at on Rory as uh we get ready to tee off on Thursday so I kind of like Rory’s number at plus 850 but fun fact Rory doesn’t like his cell phone number I think I saw on Twitter that he changed his phone number after the US Open because just media were just hounding him so he wanted to just kind of just end that stage of his life he’s resilient you know we’ve never seen he bounces down the fairways he bounces back from tournaments he is resilient Rory and I think I’m still waiting to pull the trigger until the weather kind of finally makes itself clear to us but it’s a very very big factor this week right now Rory’s at the top of my list to go to the plus 850 Market for him to win this thing I think he’s do you I mean talk about second place finish after second place finish he’s about to do something so in Scotland you know he won the Brit the Genesis Scottish open last year I think he’s he’s due for a win year man I think and you know maybe just touch on the weather because I mean a lot of times we’re looking at these boards and you know it is what it is but maybe more so than in any tournament the weather can conspire to help or hinder players in the field so fun thing I’m looking at it right now and I’m seeing there’s a opportunity on Friday afternoon where if you tea off right around 3:00 you could potentially have the wind at your back going out away from the course which is how the course layout is play those few holes on the other side and then the course comes back in and the wind could land up flipping to be behind you for both options but that’s now I’ve I’ve posted into the Discord the weather screenshots Monday Tuesday I’ll do it again tomorrow it changes every single day so just trying to figure out the Scottish weather is trying to figure out if Roy’s going to make a three-footer to win the US Open or not and it’s a mystery to all of us so I think you have to pay attention to it but it seems like the weather’s going to be relatively calm for the most part which I do like in Rory’s favor when when scoring conditions get low as in making tons and birdies I I think Rory’s chance are even better to win tournaments especially with Scotland getting so much rain and I think the the difficulty is off of the fairways it’s not necessarly this bone dry kind of lynxy type venue we’ve seen and I think Rory thrives on his softer condition so there’s a lot that I really like about how it’s setting up if we’re dumbing it down I mean does the does extreme weather essentially become a real equalizer in I mean listen some guys will be off the course they’ll be happy but when we’re talking about the top like the favorites the short number guys is it is it is it easy to assume that it is better for them if things are somewhat quiet and the best players can play the best or are there some players at the top that if things do get sort of gnarly they have an advantage over their peers yeah I think sustained difficulty and sustained wind makes it better for the the better players because the more you in control of your golf ball the less the wind will affect it but when there’s gusts and wind switching directions randomly then it becomes a lottery you know you can be the best golfer in the world and once you’ve hit your shot and the wind changes its direction on you or its intensity you’re air mailing the green and make potentially making a triple so I think sustained winds professionals prefer but when it comes to these Gusty typ situations it can it can be weird and at the same time you could tee off 10 hours before the final guy and it’s totally different conditions you know the different sides of the draws in these open championships you know um are quite severe it could be like playing a different course at times exactly a different course in a different country so to speak yeah um so listen I it’s be cool but we got nine to one on Rory right now which is a nice number um Xander 14 ludvig orber 16 which actually was 14 earlier he’s come back a little bit maybe people got a little spooked by his final round at at the Genesis Scottish open um Bryson at 16 morawa at 16 and then there’s a gap and we get to Tommy Fleetwood a 25 uh you mentioned Rory of that next group of Xander oberg deshambo morawa um I guess they all have top two if I’m not mistaken at some point in their career right correct you’ve nailed it that big in particular did it right out of the gate it’s for first major championship but uh of those guys if you were just picking one for a DraftKings lineup for an outright who who do you like the most of that next tier I want to say ludvig I just think he’s due and the way he ball strikes it because you need distance and accuracy here he’s got that it’s it’s something that he’s really impressive with and his biggest deficiency we saw it over at the Scottish on Sunday he’s chipping around the greens he was like middle of the pack in the Scottish field it lets him down in the biggest moments and it let him down at the US Open it let him down last week I think though with the conditions we might be seeing greeny regulation rates will be a bit higher than we’ve typically seen before and I think that suits him because he can hit his irons he can hit his driver and he can make putts so if he can just keep doing that I think he’s due to hit a win and that second at the at the Masters was exactly what we need to to check off that box for us hey let me ask you about Bryson in that um you know obviously he had that incredible run got another major you know spent a couple weeks partying it up and as as one should do when they win such a big Championship um but I I I do want to ask you about Liv in general like we’ve seen John ROM take the bag and be very mid for for his his level this year um you know I guess Terell hatton’s the next guy I mean they also play more in Europe and there’s a plenty more Europeans like might this be a turn where we see more Liv guys actually contend or is just the the the trajectory of a number of these players kind of cooling people on their chances of actually winning Majors right now I think it’s a bit of there’s going to be some guys we expect to contend who don’t and there’ll be some guys who don’t who who we don’t expect to contend that will and I think when you see these live guys show up it’s at the Masters and it’s at these open championships because all the live guys are these major winners right in the past they that’s what they that was the the reason they got bagged is because they had this major major pedigree they had all these Green Jackets and Clara jugs and things like that so it secured them their space on in the Mages in you know the immediate future and I think that’s a big dependent there so Bryson at a Open Championship is such a paradigm I don’t know if that’s even the right word but it’s something that doesn’t make sense to me and I’m super intrigued to see how he handles this venue but again I think even he mentioned after the PGA Championship when he finished second he said it was good to feel the pressure and how he body reacts under that kind of duress buddy haven’t you been playing competitive golf over on the live tour for the last you know like that was like a complete damnation of what Liv is and and the product they do produce because there’s just no competitive Factor there you know like turl Hatton goes and poops it down his leg at the US Open riding contention following week he goes and wins by six it’s just you know the intensity is different so some guys show up yes some guys don’t and we’ll have to see it’s going to be fun let me look I’m just going to pull a few numbers uh that I’m looking at of Liv guys uh Hatton and John romit 28 to1 like I he last year was like seven to one or 8 to one or something like that so like big numbers on those guys Brooks 40 to one cam Smith remember him 50 to one uh and and then you know we keep keep going down like who of the live group do you think has the game or at least is in a position right now that we might be able to take advantage of a big number and at least be in the game come Sunday that’s all of those names that you just mentioned are really really tough I do think out of everyone John ROM has the most to prove I feel like after he left he really has not played good golf I know he’s had some injury concerns and things like that he’s got a third child on the way so um congrats to each of those children for you know inheriting $150 million a pop but I think you know he’s he’s from Spain he’s used to these kind of conditions I’d imagine and he’s got something to prove I don’t have any metrics that kind of speak otherwise outside of his major track record his current situation in in Majors recently has been really horrific but he’s due and I think he’s interesting Terell doesn’t have a top five in the last little while unless you go back to this tournament in 2016 so in a major so it’s like what’s turle been up to for the last eight years so maybe he shows up maybe he doesn’t but he hasn’t really shown up on Sundays when we looking for him to do it the most Byron lindu is Our Guest you can follow him on Twitter atth model maniac and check out uh the the big brain and the mad scientist of uh of golf handicapping um you know like as I say the go the one thing I’ll say about ROM and you mentioned that he’s got something to prove we are coming off a Sunday where alcaraz won Wimbledon for Spain Spain won the Euro Sergio one on live I’ll say this John ROM likes to in that conversation with all the big dogs in Spanish golf maybe that’s the kick in the ass he needs to step up and be the guy we remember absolutely that would be what a quartet of woods if they managed to do that in a space of nine or so days it’s time Johnny time to step it up but hopefully he finish the second to Rory because I think I’ll be landing my my chips in that in that well listen I would love to outside of Rory I mean we mentioned you know kind of the the common theme of guys that have been one or two in Majors I mean like outside of that top group who are some names that people should consider if they’re going outright or uh maybe you know putting into DraftKings lineups that you know we think have a really good chance and you know from your models are trending well and kind of giving you an indication that they could pop at TR yeah Tom Kim sitting at 50 to oneish I think he had a second place here at the Open Championship his driver his ball striking has been really impressive I mean he lost in the playoff to the world number one so I think he’s he’s due for something he’s played a lot of golf lately I think he’s rested up now a little bit I think he fancies his chances over in Europe a lot more than he actually does here on us soil where he’s won three times already and he’s only 22 years old um some other names that I don’t mind I’ve got in at Windam Clark I’m seeing 66 or 70s out there so if you want another guy that’s one of the most volatile High upside low floor options wam Clark could be that dude it’s a big number he’s a US Open Champion so maybe he gets it done maybe he doesn’t and then will zat Tores a 22 to1 I understand his golf game has kind of gone a bit sour his back might be an issue but hey I’m about to do ragra which is a a bike ride across Iowa for seven straight days 500 miles and I pulled my back out mowing the lawn again so I might have to get a shot in my back for a big week I think wiie Z might be doing the same thing you get those shots you know for the majes make sure that you don’t feel that pain 220 to1 for one of the best he’s like a mini Brooks CER very light you know like when it comes to majes he shows the hell up he’s finished second in a lot of them he’s due for a win and I feel like this venue out of all of them major wise doesn’t really punish the lack of distance that he’s lost since the injury and the back surgery I think maybe the the accuracy is now developed a bit more of the te can play a bit of a better role here this week but I’ll tell you what you know that that massive number on Willie Z if he actually was able to cash that it would make up for all the invest Ms that we put into him at 30 and 25 and 40 over the last year bear H that’s the way that it all works Byron listen this has been so much fun hopefully we can do this again sometime fill people in on uh what you’ve got on your Twitter feed at themodel Maniac as well as the the back n bet show fishing’s amazing the hospitality is in even better my favorite few days of the year the trip to Akens Lake again Akens lake.com and Akin Lake on all of the social channels you know let me put this out to you golf people why not question of the day today um who you who do you have who who Who’s winning the Open Championship are you with Byron and backing Rory melroy I would love to see it Xander Schley Scotty sheffler moraa maybe someone further down the board this is your chance to say I told you so look at the wst chat from Tuesday before the open I said in the chat he was going to win so uh let us know with your thoughts coming up for the upcoming final major of the year in the chat for the why not question of the day for not Auto Corp over at Waverly and mcgil all right let’s get Remis back in here REM this been a fun show today Mike was great Milt always fun and I always joke you know it was like with dubsy in his Aussie accent Byron in his South African accent I could have talked to him for an hour just because that accent is so great never mind the uh great advice and insight he was giving on the upcoming tourney yeah a couple things one what do you say Tyrell Hatton took a poop down his leg if the other week and I had he sh himself yeah I had to Google what doing a shoe he was so he’s going to be drinking alcohol out of a shoe on his live stream if he gets a certain number of likes is that what he said yes exactly what kind of shoe like a gross old one or a new one well that’s a good question like one after like you go for like a long run and you your off you go to Byron if you go to Byron’s Twitter uh actually one uh he was just you know promoting the show for tonight and you will see in the photo he’s doing the shouey um out of Looney Looney trun talking about trun there it is okay that’s like a runner it looks like Nike golf Sho maybe that’s appropriate it’s a big Aussie thing like I know Sam Cam Smith did the shoy and Grayson Waller from WWE the Aussie did a shoy at ringside a little while ago so it’s somewhat of an Aussie thing maybe it’s just a southern hemisphere thing like for because he’s South African uh I’m not sure but anyways I’ll be in there I’ll be giving a like and hopefully seeing a shouey um and enjoying the fellas they do a great job it’s very very funny show yeah full beer out of the shoe time you’ve ever heard of a shoy I think I’ve heard of it but isn’t that I remember like The Simpsons like when when crusty goes on the big bender and he drinks out of like the Stanley Cup and everything I think there’s a shoe in there in that in that part of the show I don’t know I’m just thinking of like a what shoe like I would use I’m sure I got some like old shoes lying around I wouldn’t care to you know if I ruined I’ve never done a shoy I’m like tempted to try it now can you get lik maybe we’ll do a thing maybe we’ll do a thing if we get to x amount of likes on a show coming up we can we’ll do we’ll pull that trick right up we’ll pull that club out of Byron’s bag and swing it ourselves and say okay we get to 200 likes or whatever the number is we’ll finish the show with the double shoey I don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that um but I would do a generic but last time we said that you last time we said that we ended up eating the yard dog and that was last summer and I did see like CFL news on X just found that video and uh retweeted it if you missed it last year we did eat I saw they still have it at the game uh dog it’s like $50 hot dog massive so a beer out of a shoe I don’t know though it’s I’ll tune in I don’t know if I’ll I’ll do it you need some help to do that I see not not surpris oh Christopher met you never seen the red blacks fans do shoe beers not sure I I don’t recall it to be honest and Tyson of course says I’ve seen a few shoes in Transcona not surprising and I’m sure the shoe drinking things roots are not having cups practicality at its best from dark the Darth Vader duck Dad I’ve seen some things before but I’m just being introduced to a shoy today um the beginig yeah who was the Aussie guy um who did that because yeah he won he won a race and then did the shouey in the Octagon right after winning Mark something if I’m not mistaken and I see shiker is already in the wst DraftKings event yeah $3 contest if you don’t know where to find it send us a tweet at sportstalk wpg and we’ll send you a uh we’ll send you a link but man yeah that was fun with Byron and uh uh I I’ve wanted I needed a reason to get on Rory and all I needed was 30 seconds from the model Maniac dropping optimism for Rory and I am G to be with him for our picks will go tomorrow myself Dusty p gregy on H the lock shop at noon Winnipeg time over on the Edmonton Sports Talk Channel and uh I am coming in hot after having Bobby Mack at 40 to1 I meant to ask Byron about the very controversial drop that he took which uh rubs some people the wrong way he was essentially in a gors bush but was standing on a sprinkler ended up getting relief put it onto the green sank the butt for Eagle ended up birding 18 that and winning the entire tournament I wasn’t complaining as someone that was backing Bobby Mack last week at 40 to1 let’s get over to kolette speaking of which and we’ll get to the open I I mean I know I kind of quoted you on a bunch of the the top plays right now um Scotty Sheffer plus 550 for the uh for the win listen I’m I’m out on uh I’m out on Scotty like like would I like to have him in a DraftKings lineup sure but I mean this is uh it’s just such a short number so many things can happen he’s traditionally been much better earlier on in the season but Rory maroy 9 to1 and that’s about as good a number as you’ll see anywhere I mean kolette always has really good golf numbers obviously it’ll fluctuate a little bit from a bit from book to book on maybe some of the higher guys uh but 9 to1 I think is good as you’ll see Rory anywhere we’ll see what he’s made of coming back from what happened at the US Open Xander 14 oer and Bryson and morawa 16 I saw some support from morawa in the chat Tommy Fleetwood 25 28 for Hatton and ROM Vic hoveland 33 the 40s are Brook Lowry Bobby McIntyre coming off his win at the Scottish open Pat Klay my guy Tony feno Tony has been second in a major be getting on him at 45 to1 just out of principal Tom Kim who Byron mentioned 45 to1 the 50s are Hideki cam Smith SI theala and then the 66s Windham Clark Matty Fitz Brian Harmon Champion golfer of the Year Min wo Le Neeman Adam Scott who finished second last week sjm Justin Thomas cam young and then a group of 80s including Corey Connor and another Lock Shop favorite ashk AE batia oh no AE is actually at 100 to one um so you check it out tomorrow we’ll have some exclusives we’ll put together a top 20 parlay and uh that will dominate tomorrow show on the lock shop as well as far as tonight goes we do have the MLB allstar game uh the allstar game the total for tonight the over under seven and a half that is interestingly enough it’s gone down now to seven I think you can still get it at seven and a half at minus 125 but if you do want to bet it at seven where seven would be a push you can get even money the numbers gone under and six to the last seven four straight and REM the pitchers are just so damn good right now they’re only going in for one inning or so I have a hard time imagining this being a high-scoring event I’m going to probably hit the under yeah hitting is really hard these days h a lot more strikeouts as you said pitchers coming for one inning they can let loose so I didn’t realize those were the numbers but it makes sense and you think allstar game big bats a lot of runs apparently not the case I did see some people uh on X saying bet Paul SK three for a three up thre down inning he’s starting rookie starting for uh the national league I don’t know if that’s even listed on here but well I’ll tell you what I’m going to be going for and this is auto bet every time he takes the hill is over on his strikeout prop yeah one and a half the over is one and a half and it’s plus 135 there’s a chance he might even get more than an inning too especially after they took him out last week after seven Innings of no hit ball so I’ll be on the SK over one and a half strikeouts at plus 135 I am on the under for the game I’m not sure whether I’m going to take a side there is one other prop and I talked about this on the lock shop but we were joking yesterday that with the season that Jays have had just watch t Oscar Hernandez go and win the home run Derby well that’s exactly what he did so in the theme and The Narrative of more frustration for Jay’s fans how about Marcus Simeon hitting a homer at 9 to1 tonight that’s pretty funny and it was yeah wasn’t Guerrero wearing a Tay Oscar Jay’s Jersey yesterday during the Derby and uh it’s only seemed a few years ago where was this tweet was a couple years ago uh where was it hold on Jeff passen tweeting out the Blue Jays one to five hitters are Springer Simeon Vlad beet and Tay Oscar uh what a lineup That was remember remember those days seems like yesterday but that was uh September 2021 it that’s only 2021 it it’s it’s just amazing how and by the way just while we’re doing finishing up the cool bet lines if you go to the Major League baseball um section all the Futures are there um the Dodgers are the favorite for the world series of 3 to one followed by the Phillies and Yankees Yankees are the favorite to win the AL um MVP right now showy Otani massive favorite to win MVP again minus 333 Aaron judge in the AL tank scoble the favorite for the AL sa young NL sa young is Zach wheeler but Paul skes who was 50 to1 last week has gone all the way down to plus 450 that’s I mean this guy is the real deal um but Jay’s fans just plug your ears right now you’re probably not going to want to hear this they’ve also got odds on teams to make the playoffs and they are booking one two three four 14 teams they’ve got odds to make the playoffs the Jays don’t even make the cut they are that far out of it right now um Royals plus 140 to make the playoffs Dbacks plus 140 Red Sox even money but you can’t even get a number on the Blue Jays and to hit their over which was over 86 and a half to get to 87 wins we worked this out today they need to go 43 and 17 in their final 60 games that might be my worst bet of the year the overun JS I said there’s no way they could be as offensively in up this year as they were last year well you’re right they’re worse so it has been has been very it is frustrating your Mariners they think the Mariners will make the playoffs R minus 161 um but anyways if you do like props and you know long-term bets for the season get on over to cool BET right now a ton of props available for the rest of the season team wins the team the the now the total for the Blue Jays for the regular season is now 76 a half and it’s even money to the over the UND minus 120 so uh man what an ugly season for Toronto um but I do I listen I’ll still be watching the games we’ll be follow the teaming till NFL starts and then if they’re this far out they’ll probably be done CFL lines are out um Remis have you seen the lines yet I haven’t actually okay what do you think the line is in the opening line bombers at Saskatchewan bombers minus two and a half wow you’re good oh bom it’s bombers minus two okay I’ll take it I kind of thought the Riders would be favored by one or two I don’t buy the Riders see we do the power rankings and i’ I haven’t really lowered the bombers as much as you and Connor do I’m still high on the bomb and I don’t buy Saskatchewan with Patterson at quarterback so I’m I’m on the bombers I think I still think they’re better than their record yeah well I mean listen you can certainly make that argument and uh I I will subscribe to it I just thought that you know maybe you know with the Riders start they’d still be the favorite anyways they’re not bombers minus two um and minus 139 in the money line uh the red blacks are three-point favorites against the Elks and the early game on Friday and then the Argos four and a half Point favorites in Hamilton against the Tai cats see that seems it’s in Hamilton okay it’s in Hamilton yeah and then BC I thought this would be like six and a half BC only four and a half Point favorites in Calgary against the stamp Peters in the late game I don’t know how you don’t take BC in that they’re just on another level than the stamps are right now if you ask me I don’t think Calgary is very good I I know Jake Mayer threw for a lot of yards I don’t I don’t like trust him that much in terms of top tier QBs in the CFL and yeah BC is awesome they just torched The Undefeated Rough Riders I know I think you know the CFL terms of tier teams you got BC number one or BC Montreal and there and then I think Toronto’s a bit further down I’m not not sure about you know them with dukes we’ll see if uh well it’s funny you say that I mean as far as the gray cup odds right now yeah let’s let me take a BC BC plus 225 Montreal Plus plus 250 Gap Argos 5 to1 bombers plus 550 that was plus 650 last week when they were one and four and the Rough Riders just behind the bombers at plus 575 Ottawa 15 to1 Calgary 22 Hamilton and Edmonton both winless 100 to1 hey two things when it comes to the CFL and cool bet uh don’t forget every week one bet whether you want to do a parlay whether you do want to game you’ve got the 20% win bonus so make Brody streak I think I’m actually going to go 10 Jeff Fafa Jeff FAA has been good and big Nick no maybe not big Nick I I like big neck I think I’ve bet on big neck before I will say there was the One race that I lost the trifecta on yesterday if you would have bet $1 on that Trifecta N1 you would have won $100 which was crazy that’s a nice one there were some bigger upsets yesterday mhm so we’ll see what happens so there you go hey if you want to check out do a little bit more research on this hpib bet.com click on a cinoa downs but race number six is the big one we actually got eight races 1. I like that ville will get his chance and in particular the price point is good. If the jets are in win now mode then that right side d had to improve immensely! It’s just not built for playoff hockey period. I like demelo but what we’ve seen in playoffs is that he’s in over his head as a 1st pair guy. Pionk has had 2 down years in a row and leaves a lot to be desired in his own end. Gets pushed around and loses guys in coverage. Miller is ok as a third pairing d. If this group is serious about winning like they say they are then upgrades are needed. Nice seeing milt on the show and thanks for satisfying my sports cravings once again WST!
