Bryce Harper explains the Phillies’ mindset for rest of the season: ‘It’s World Series every year’

here Bryce uh great to see you congrats again on another Allstar nomination and you we’ve had so much fun we’ve talked about you so much and just watching you it feels like now you’ve been in Philly for years feels like not only from the beginning have you embraced that City but they’ve embraced you back can you just tell us why and what’s been the key in that relationship yeah just just super grateful to be there I mean just to be able to be part of a city and a culture and a team like this it’s it’s been incredible this is the best team I’ve ever been on by far um just top to bottom from John Middleton our owner to Dave Dombrowski to Rob Thompson and everybody down I mean our whole team full of leaders and young guys and rookies I mean it’s it’s been the whole 40 man roster this to this year as well just because guys are getting hurt guys are stepping up and people have seen what this team is made of and we got a long ways to go obviously um but we’re having a lot of fun you mentioned your manager Rob Thompson and Kevin long two men that were as influential in my career as any other guys that I can think of it’s seems like they’ve been a great fit for Phillies and for Bryce Harper how have they helped you personally yeah Tom toper is one of the best baseball minds and people I’ve ever been around um just the way he kind of approaches each day games at 7:00 he’s there at 700 a.m. you know what I’m saying he he he breathes baseball man and it’s uh it’s something super special and you guys know I mean he’s been a lot of around a lot of great minds especially when he was in New York with you guys and he’s won a lot of baseball games he understand what what it takes and he trusts in his guys to do their job as well k the same way super simple with his approach and he wants each guy to be great every day you guys know if you’re not feeling well heong thinks you’re the greatest player in the world no matter what and uh you know that helps a lot so he uh just just everybody on the team the culture everything it’s been great you know we were talking we we’ve all heard about you from I don’t even know how old you were 8 n years old and you’ve lived up to all the hype and all the attention and you’ve done it with ease but the question I have for you is tell me how difficult it’s been maybe it’s been e for you going from The Outfield to first base yeah uh I appreciate that I mean I I think obviously working with Bobby Dickerson it’s been really good um Bobby’s been incredible he wants what’s great for everybody in our infield and I want to be good for everybody out there I don’t want to just be a first Bas that catches and throws and doesn’t make the plays or anything like that I want to play it the right way and Bobby’s done a great job letting us do that um and I want to be good for my third baseman my short stop my second baseman cuz it’s not always perfect right uh but I still need to get going still need to understand I can get better over there and you guys know the growth of the game being able to get better each day and I know that’s so cliche but as you go on and you you get older you do get better and I feel like as as a player and as a team as well in the last couple years we’ve gotten better and our culture’s gotten better and our players have gotten better and uh it just it’s been a lot of fun Bryce 16 years ago I was getting prepared for a maor league baseball game and one of my teammate told me we were playing at Tampa I know if you remember this look he know he know what I’m going to one of my boys told me hey papy you want to see a real power hiter go outside to watch this kid hitting Moon shot I rush it out came out you were hitting ball to the to the back all the way up there in a at Tampa at Tampa Bay Stadium at the time what I’m seeing you doing during your career still impressive to me but it’s not a surprise to me because I saw you doing it at 15 now I want I want you to talk to me a little bit about your leadership because I see that when you go that team go plus I want to know your relationship with d d braski what he bring to the table for you yeah so I appreciate that that’s crazy um I mean obviously I’m super grateful for my time growing up and the way I kind of grew up and the moments that it’s got me ready for and prepared for these moments I’m so grateful for where I am right now um on a team and we a place and um where I’m at as a as a you know a clubhouse and everything else um and all the players I’m around it’s not just me on that team it’s not just Bryce Harper it’s everybody and we are such a good team with hanging out going to dinner you guys know how that is when you when you when the camaraderie is good when the culture is good in the clubhouse there’s nothing better and Dave D Browski brings in the right guys no matter what I got chills because I know exactly what Dave wants to do he wants to win and it’s not just this year everybody I uh somebody brought it up today is it World Series or bust no it’s World Series every year right like that’s that’s what the mindset is and you guys know playing in New York that’s what it is you same thing in Boston that’s what it is he came he came to Boston while I was there to steal and the minute he walk in he was like what do we need to win here I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s doing on there that’s how he that’s how he does it and I respect the hell out of him because he does such a great job of doing that I got a present for my homies my real dog my dog teacher I love it thank you’re my dog baby you already know that you already know he gets gifts to Bright sarper Bryce a pleasure thanks for coming Phillies have been great brght sarper here one Phillies all stars and he’s got a t-shirt from Big Poppy I mean what could be better than that we’ll see [Music]

  1. After seeing Mason Miller pitch last week against my Phils & tonight at the ASG The Phillies need to go get him if it's realistic. I'd say go get Rooker as well however there's really no place for him here with him being a DH… with that being said THEY NEED MASON MILLER!

  2. Man, this isn’t the Bryce Harper that I expected when the Phillies signed him from the Nationals. I thought he was going to be an arrogant diva that made everything about himself. He’s been the exact opposite of that. I can’t believe how good he has been for the Phillies. He is the ultimate team leader. I’m blown away by his humility.

  3. like jason kelce said….ITS THE WHOLE TEAM…we give Bryce the love that Chase and Schmidt and darren daulton never could fully embrace and lean into…Bryce was made for philly

  4. Bryce has matured a lot over the years. He's peaking right now mentally and when you combine that with his physical gifts and talent, that's a dangerous man right there.
