Zadina will get another chance with some team like Buffalo or Ottawa, someone looking to shake things up. I’m surprised Labanc has fallen so much, I imagine he’ll get league minimum somewhere though, I’m guessing on an east team like Montreal maybe?
Man, I know Tyson Barrie has his deficiencies, but this is a guy who’s averaged over a 50-point pace in an 800+ game career. I know his last year in Nashville didn’t go the greatest but this is still a decent puck mover who can round out a 3rd pair and quarterback your power play in a pinch
Also did not realize JVR had 38 points in 71 games last year, and even crazier is that 37 of those came in his first 51 games. Strikes me as a player who can’t be in the lineup every night, but can still contribute sparingly and park himself in front of the net on the PP
Kylington and Pacioretty are the only guys of the group that seem like they are reliable everyday players. The rest of them don’t scream out as being players you can comfortably play regular minutes.
Nick Cousins is considered a top free agent still available? Lol what?
Alex Nylander is a pure top 6 guy and not too many of those roles around.
Also think Kylington would be suiting up for most teams so surprised to see him without a contract
How is Kylington unsigned still ?
Feels like he’s be a great guy for just about any team to at least take a chance on.
Did his return last year not go well ?
I’m really surprised Tampa didn’t go for Vrana since we desperately need a top-6 forward. There’s no way he asks for anything but league’s minimum, so why not take a chance? If it doesn’t go well, just send him to Syracuse
Also I don’t know why Lankinen is still not a Flyer. Like are they really gonna try to get into the playoffs with a goalie tandem of Ersson/Fedotov?
There are 4 Sharks on here where I feel like the general perception around fans is that they’re still good, or at least good to take a shot on, but I wonder if the perception around the league is more like “even the Sharks didn’t want these guys”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Labanc, Hoffman, Zadina, and Barabanov were all playing overseas next season.
Devils will probably sign a bunch of vet PTOs because they have a preseason game in Philly on the 3rd and have to be in Prague on the 4th and 5th.
TIL Filip Zadina is a “top free agent” in any sense. Wild.
Zadina should go back to Czechia and play for his dad’s team
He’s just one of those guys that has a lot of skill but it doesn’t translate to NHL production
The remaining free agents are a veritable “Who’s Who” of scrap parts. The destinations will depend on which teams don’t like the look of their rosters’ depth charts during training camp. There are no impact FAs left.
Zadina and Nylander are likely going back to Europe or will be in the AHL. Vrana is probably going to the KHL. The rest, I don’t know. Probably PTO signings.
As far as I know several Washington players are still close with and workout with Vrana. Could certainly see him get a PTO. I really hope he stays in North America and gets his career back on track.
Carter Hart to Edmonton
In no universe is tda a “top free agent”. Dude was a major reason the canes struggled at the beginning of last season
Is NYRFan92360244 really considered a top free agent?
One guy that isn’t on this list that should be is Kevin Lankinen.
His numbers were solid as an NHL backup, yet remains unsigned in a year where lots of teams swapped out their goaltenders.
I can only assume Lankinen over-played his hand a bit and thought he could get more (perhaps he was looking for Stolarz money?).
To me the logical fits are Buffalo, Dallas, and Tampa Bay:
I was a little dumbfounded by the Reimer signing, but can only assume it was done with the intent of making it as easy as possible for Levi to win the backup job (why rush? Let him play in the AHL).
DeSmith was a cap friendly option but has struggled with consistency. His entire cap hit would clear if the Stars opted to assign him to the AHL, but I don’t think it would be a good look to hand him a three year deal, only to turn around and do that….
Vasilevesky needs rest. He’s had a ton of mileage on his prime years and it’s become apparent as he enters his 30’s. Lankinen would be capable of playing as much as 30 games and helping to ease the burden; Johansson isn’t that.

KHL.
At least half of them will be PTOs.
