Players on Unusual Teams: New Jersey Edition

  1. My second try posting this because the first time instead of a picture of Rob Niedermayer I accidently used a picture of Scott Niedermayer (a player who definitely does NOT look unusual on the Devils).

Didn’t want to upset New Jersey fans with that one so here is the second try with the correct Niedermayer this time.

Fun fact, apparently Scott Niedermayer’s middle name is Robert which is probably why I got some pictures of Scott mixed into my google results when I searched “Rob Niedermayer New Jersey”.

  2. Kulikov’s been all over these

Housley’s a weird one. He was known for barely playing attention to defense, not exactly a Lou type of player.

If Nicholls had stuck around one more year, he would’ve won a cup

  3. Ponikarovsky was 2011-12 and 2012-13. always thought it was funny that the Devils traded for him, let him walk in free agency, then traded again for him the following season.

  4. Having only known George McPhee as GM of the Caps, that photo looks like a bad Photoshop

  5. Sean o’donnel and Dimitri Kulikov seem to be repeat offenders…. What team is third usual team?

  6. I’ll be honest, I’ve got *NO RECOLLECTION* of Mike Dunham being anything else but a Pred.

Also just stop putting Simmonds on the list. I’m not buying it, it’s all a lie. He couldn’t have played for half of these teams😅

  7. I always feel like Doug Gilmore had a longer stint with the devils. If you asked me how long he played for them, I would say 5 seasons. But I was like 12 back when he played, which might be why I don’t remember…

  8. The year Larionov played was a cursed year. Devils didn’t have it despite being defending champs.

  9. Wayne Simmonds in a Devils jersey still feels so fucking weird to me. Dude tried his best here though. Couldn’t score a goal to save his life but at least he tried.

  10. Could also added legends like Jan Hrdina, Oleg Tverdovsky, Deron Quint, Andrei Zyuzin, David Steckel, and Martin Skoula

  11. Beezer played for the tri-state area: Rangers, Devils, Islanders, and Flyers

  12. We drafted Sullivan, how is that unusual? Same with Dunham. He won a championship with our AHL affiliate.

  13. I know he won a Cup with them in ’03, but I always forget Joe Nieuwendyk was on the Devils briefly.

  14. It was pretty random when mogilny was on the devils even though he was there a while

  15. Kulikov I swear was on the Devils for way longer than that, guy really is just a suitcase

  16. O’Donnell’s tenure was probably most memorable for being in the box for the Avs’ game 7 winning goal

  17. LOL, I remember Gilmour on the Devil’s because it was like the crucifying of Christ at the time in Toronto. Don Cherry was livid. So that part isn’t weird. The weird part for me is him using Koho gloves. MR. HESPELER and WINNWELL for his entire life, using Koho is so odd.

Had no idea Smehlik played there. At this point, has Kulikov played for every team? Jesus, giving Mike Sillinger a run for his money! That is not Ken Klee.

  18. Ponikorovsky was an absolute legend despite being around for only a couple of seasons

  19. Housley is a weird one. I am pretty sure despite his offensive skill and minutes played he never won a playoff round until 1998 when he weirdly went to the Finals with the Caps

  20. I don’t remember Kulikov being on any other team than Florida to Winnipeg back to Florida. Those years in between were fucking wild, he’s still gonna be in the Penguins post too!

  21. I don’t know what it is, but I feel like Niedermeyer was on the Devils for like 20 years.

  22. I understand why Mike Dunham is on this list, but also, I don’t remember him playing for literally anyone else… I’m pretty sure he won the Jennings with Brodeur, and so I always remembered him as a Devil before anything else

  23. I feel like Simmonds is on every single one of these. Why is Sullivan on here? Devils literally drafted him

  24. When I think of usual players on the Devils, Esa Tikkanen and Peter Zezel come to mind. These are players with 800+ games played in the NHL that fans will recognize that nobody would associate with the Devils.
