Crazy how much the Blue Jays were complaining when they benefited that much.
Robo umps can’t get here fast enough
Jesus Laz…
Laz had it out for the Yanks yesterday
Give him the Hernandez treatment asap.
For more fun, click the link in the Tweet. 5th percentile for accuracy and 2nd for consistency. What a train wreck.
The fact that the average for strikes called being 88% is bad enough. Jeez.
It’s actually more skewed than I thought. While watching I was so dumbstruck that I just assumed he was similarly bad for both teams. I def get Gaussman complaining tho especially as a pitcher, both teams did still have a reason to be mad
I’m convinced these Umps use these wild strike zones as a calling card or a signature or something. There’s no reason for us to know Laz Diaz by name, yet we discuss his foolery often.
Lazel Hernandiaz
78% should be fireable lmao
I’m not as concerned with the close calls that he missed. Human error is part of the game. But many of those were really far outside and it’s skewed to one side of the plate. Either there was a ton of late breaking pitches, dude is a putz who has an egregiuosly wide zone to one side, or he is experiencing a field of vision issue.
If you’ve gotta be inaccurate at least fuck up calls for BOTH teams! Diaz gave strikes to Berrios that he didn’t to Rodón
Is Lazy Diaz the new Angel Hernandez? I think he’s got a good shot at the title.
I wonder what the ratio of bad calls to jays vs us was
Ultimately, it didn’t matter. The Jays got a run and a quarter of advantage but lost by five.
But it was galling to watch.
Another case for robo umps
Is there any other sport where the fans are so well aware of the specific ways in which the referees/umps/judges in the league are inept?
And he likely doesn’t care. He probably looks at this and laughs, and says oh well. That’s the type of attitude he exudes.
Umps come off as police officers who show off their stories among eachother on how bad ass they are and how they had this use of force and that use of force and how they don’t take shit from any civilian and are so tough. Instead the civilians are the players.
I bet you they were laughing at this and thinking they really stuck it to Aaron Boone with these calls. That’s what the MLB umpiring culture seems like.
Home plate robo umps need to come asap.
Yikes. And he does this for a living…
I honestly loathe this guy more than any other umpire because of how unprofessional he acts when he gets questioned, constantly baiti my and taunting players and managers.
The important stat is 3.3% below expected, which is pretty bad.
I dont know why people want Robo umps so bad. I really dont want the eventual era of pixel pitchers skidding 1% of the zone for a strike.

Laz Diaz needs to go the way of Angel Hernandez
