49ers Injury News:
Left guard Aaron Banks had surgery for a broken pinkie finger. Shanahan said the hope is to have Banks back by Week 1 for Monday night against the New York Jets. Nick Zakelj filled in for Banks as Spencer Burford and Jon Feliciano.

Zakelj had been filling in at center, occasionally with the first team. But with a plethora of injuries, Zakelj will now focus on guard.

Shanahan also hopes that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will be ready for Week 1. Pearsall has missed time with a shoulder injury. Here’s what Shanahan said this morning on KNBR about Pearsall:

“He’s had some unfortunate deals coming into training camp with the hamstring and then hurting his shoulder here in practice. So he’s doing everything he can to get back. He needs the reps, needs to practice, just like all those guys do.”

Talanoa Hufanga received positive news from his doctor’s visit on Thursday. Hufanga will be able to ramp up what he can do moving forward and be more aggressive on the field as he attempts to do more football-related activities. From there, the 49ers will assess whether Hufanga can return to practice.

John Lynch on Brandon Aiyuk:
“The communication has still been really good, both with Brandon and his agent, and we’re trying to figure out solutions. I’m always hopeful, and I can tell you we feel the urgency. The season’s approaching, and we have ample time.”

“The good news is Brandon is a really, really hard worker. He’s taken great care of himself this offseason. He’s in fantastic shape. But there’s things you have to do on the football field and getting yourself in there with our team.”

“I wish I knew. As I said, we started early. It’s consumed a lot of our time, my time. I don’t like that it’s taken this long, but it has. And you deal with the challenges that you’re faced with. I can tell you one thing. Lots of times when I’m talking to other GM’s around the league on a variety of situations, a lot of them will call and say, ‘Just pulling for you in that situation. I was in one last year.’ Or something like that.

One thing they always say is like, ‘Man, we’d love to have your problems. You’ve got a lot of great players there.’ And I think that’s kudos to this entire organization. Our talent acquisition has been really good.”

Mike Garafolo says Brandon Aiyuk wants an adjustment on the final year of the new deal with the 49ers:

“The 49ers feel like they’ve already caved enough and caved more than they wanted to. They have come up significantly from their offer in the spring.
