Bud Black to return as Rockies manager for ninth season

Well this is dumb.
I think Bud is there to wear the losses in a down stretch with a smile on his face and a “that’s baseball” response to every question, and he does that job well. But at some point, you have to turn the corner.
Jake cave 400+ ABs next season
Bad Rockies.
I’ll say it again: 2024 was the 6th straight season in which the Rockies finished with a .460 winning% or worse, all under Bud Black. The last team to have 6+ straight such seasons under the same manager was the A’s from 1934-1943 (Connie Mack).
Remember: Connie Mack ***OWNED*** the A’s. If you want an idea of how influential Mr. Buddy is to this franchise, that’s all you need to know.
They’ve genuinely lost me for a little while with this. The dude is stuck in 1989 and does everything poorly as a manager, but he’s still here because he’s buddies with the owner. This team needs a new voice and outlook on things SO badly, but here we go regurgitating the same crap. Maybe a few more fastballs down and away will solve all our problems!
We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas
The cash grab is so obvious.

Ah man I love Bud as a human but this is just flat out bad. We need change
Just put the man out of his professional misery! Bud refuses to lose this game of chicken. I don’t think firing him would be a punishment, more saving him from himself.
Holy fuck… while firing Bud obviously won’t solve all of our problems, at least it would be an indication that Fuckhead Dick is aware something needs to change.
Jesus Christ… I have never seen a franchise so uncommitted to improving.
I wouldn’t expect anything different.
I’m much more positive about this team than most, and this fucking sucks.
Not surprised. Disappointed but not surprised.
You just know he’s gotta stick around to make it an even 10 years
Whoever you’re picturing as the ideal manager for this team would not be able to do anything with this roster given to them. I get wanting change I do too but you have to have a roster worth a damn before you can judge success in a position like his
How about a new owner? 🤔
He’s a dictator at this point
Of course he is
100 Ls here we come!
On the one hand, the Rockies obviously need a change and moving on to a new manager after so many losing seasons makes sense. On the other hand, his replacement would probably be someone like Clint Barmes so it doesn’t matter anyway.
Padres kept him for 9 years (649-713, 0.477) now the Rockies keep him for 9 years (537-657, 0.450), hopefully next decade he can go coach the dodgers
Whatever. I think a new voice in the clubhouse would be beneficial but it doesn’t really matter. There’s not a manager in the game who could win with the rosters the front office has given him the last few years.
No GM or Manager in baseball is surviving what’s happened the last 3 seasons in Denver. Dick continues to show us he’s a coward who doesn’t have the courage or the capability to lead a baseball franchise. I want to say firing Bud would do anything, but he’d just be replaced by Vinny or Clint Hurdle. Somehow this will lead to his idiot son becoming the youngest GM in baseball, and creating the most embarrassing and incompetent organization in all of sports. Congrats Dick, enjoy watching this team lose another 100+ games.
The only manager in MLB who isn’t judged and on W-L record. He’s there to run a team and not complain about the talent level
Honestly, the ghosts of Connie Mack, John McGraw, and Casey Stengel couldn’t coach this team to .500 ball. Until ownership actually wants to invest and win, the manager is pointless unless you have someone you like who you are comfortable losing 100 with for multiple seasons in a row.
Why? So we can make an MLB loss record?? Let’s go 0-162 this year. We can do it boys!!!
Poor Bud.
Nine seasons?! Holy fuck
Oh thank god I was worried we might be competitive next season
He’s only been here for 8 years so far? It’s felt like 15 with all the losses that have piled up
While it’s not what I would do, it’s hard to blame bud for the team being bad recently. It’s not his fault that the front office took a playoff team and made it into nothing.
If it’s broke why fix it! (An old Monfort family saying)
That’s another 100 losses. Why people even bother with this team I’ll never understand. Haven’t gone to coors since Arenado got sent away for a bag of baseballs. Just can’t support this nonsense anymore
This is a ringing endorsement from ownership that the last few seasons have been acceptable.
I’m sure next year will be different!
here is to another below .500 season. just peachy.
Meet the new boss ….. same as the old boss.
Lol. That’s all you can say. So many people here tried to tell me Bud was done, they’re rebuilding, so many things. It’s the same old Rockies, man. Back to back 100 loss seasons and they’re not doing a fucking thing about it.
Well, they’re doing one thing. Giving a big fat middle finger to anyone who wants them to not be a fucking laughing stock.
I’m sorry, this proves, despite what it looks like, that the issue isn’t as much Bud Black as it is the perception of Black by GMs (currently Schmidt) and ownership.

Fade to Black, bruh.
