Great win for the vancouver canucks. With Miller, Boeser and Demko out i am proud of the effort. Pettersson is looking so good now with sherwood and debrusk. Also what a time to be alive to have Captain Quinn Hughes being not only the best defenceman in canuck history but possibly in the who national hockey league. Too bad he gets ejected beacuse of a game misconduct early in the 1st. good goaltending as always. When things get tough, we will overcome!

NHL reffing continues to be unworthy of the product. They overreacted on Hughes because they have blown so many calls this season already. (too many to list here) Whiteclouds penalty reversal on the Knies head injury being the most recent. IMO. The refs need help, they are too influential in game outcomes – in a negative way. The Hughes call should have been reduced ; Noriss given an academy award, from head office. Has anyone seen the non boarding call on Dillon a few weeks ago that sparked the fight and left the Devils shorthanded ? I've never seen O'Keefe so angry. That play was the opposite to this one – where a real attempt to injure (sucessful, bleeding nose, face smashed into the glass) was missed, Dillon fought , a got 7 minutes while the boarder got 5 for fighting) – and the League could have looked at that play and booked the guy ( Mantha, I think ) for a major after the fact. There are too many rats and rat plays going unpuinshed. It's always been a problem in hockey , let's let the cameras and the profesionals behind the scenes continue to review and error-correct to improve the quality of the officiating. All penalties that have the potential to influence the outcome of a game deserve League review. Add Majors, game misconducts, and , perhaps most importantly – injury status. Kyle Connor was knocked out last season for 8 weeks thanks to Dylan Stromes blatant knee on knee. I think he got 2 minutes. There has to be more of a consequence to these acts than that. The NHL leaves it to the Jets to go seek revenge ? And the Nucks for Jeannot on Boesser? 3 games for that who cares ? That is zero deterrent. Tie TOI lost to injurious acts. Make the punishments worse if the player is a star and the offender a goon. The NHL has never protected it's stars ; this stuff would disappear almost overnight. I love tough hockey, fairly played this game should not result in the number of serious injuries we see.

Looks like Norris was transitioning to change direction (look at his skates) and got bumped right in the middle of it. You can see Hughes didn’t drive him into the boards so it was a pretty soft bump at the exact wrong time.

Now lets place Matthews in Quinns place do you think the Toronto brass upstairs is reviewing this play to give Matthews a game misconduct. Absolutely not! Its the most egregious penalty I've seen in a very long time.

Stutzle got away with interference, crosschecking, and more, especially before the last Ottawa goal, where play was not stopped for the infractions. There were 3 teams in that game, canucks and 2 for the home team.

If you saw Norris in his interview after the game, he did look pretty rough – cut lip and nose, and his face pretty swollen; I was a bit shocked as it looked like a nothing hit!
I'm a huge Canucks and Quinn Hughes fan. I have zero problem with this penalty being five and a game.
That was one of the worst calls ever. Typical NHL calls now. Total BS! Just wanting to feel important or what! Those who can't play, ref. Wrecks the game 100%.
This is a player safety issue. This was handled correctly.
I think a fair counter to this would be that if the injured player returns , the penalty should be reduced to 5 minutes and the penalized player should be able to return to the bench and maybe even have a certain amount of shifts theyre taken out of the rotation…. 2 for initial , 4 for a double minor , 5 for blood… but if the review shows that the offensive play was clean and there was no malicious intent, it shouldnt ever be a game. Game misconducts should only ever be handed down for a hit or play that causes an injured player to be taken out of the game, not the period , or the next handful of shifts.

Queen Hughes is such a dirty player. He should be suspended for at least 10 games.

That was only a tiny tap at the back of a guy who is 10 lbs heavier than Hughes. Norris definitely graduated at Stützle University for Diving.
This is the path the game is on. The head is sacrosanct. A light check but a check in the numbers doesn’t look great.
This journey of change in where the line is not helped by a lack of communication from the zebras and a league run by a lawyer whose head is in the sand on CTE. Clarity could be so easy but the lawyer is thinking about liability of owners and the league, not the game.
