Saw this on twitter today. Add Baun to the list of good Saints that we didn’t resign due to poor management.

Zack is also playing behind a dominate DL…
But he sucked here. It’s not Mickeys fault the coaches didn’t use him correctly or that Philly figured out a way to get him to succeed. Mickey gave the coaches the players, and the coaches didn’t know what to do
Baun didn’t fit DA’s defensive scheme. Can’t just resign a guy your coach won’t use.
This was the right choice. Just because another player plays well somewhere else, doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision.
He wouldn’t have started on our defense, and we couldn’t afford to keep him as a depth choice. That’s just how it works out sometimes
Let’s be real here, this is more DA than Mickey – Mickey drafted him, DA refused to play the guy….
Why is this his fault? Is he fielding the D? Or did you magically know in advance that he would do great when he went elsewhere? Maybe you should have spoken up? Same with Trey H too. Let us all benefit from your psychic abilities. He’s the one who drafted the effing guy.
Why would we resign him to be a backup to Demario and Werener?
Mickey drafted him. This one is on DA. And let’s be real, the fan base would’ve rioted if we gave him snaps over Demario
It seems like every player that leaves Nola for phi balls out for Philly. Crazy.
I agree with some other comments on this one. Baun was in and out of the LB rotation or was upgraded from Special Teams countless times to start at LB and he just never produced enough quality to be a viable, consistent start. I think this is more relevant to the theory that sometimes players need a fresh system, new teammates and coaches, etc to find success in the NFL.
Thank goodness for Captain Hindsight!
It’s not the GM’s fault every time a player becomes good after leaving here. This isn’t even comparable to like Hendrickson who was actually good here for a bit
I would take Kuechly over Buan any day of the week, props to Zach regardless however.
Luke Kuechly did a lot more than the stat sheet could ever show and his production came from putting his teammates in the right place to succeed, knowing QB tendencies, being able to cover an extremely large range of the field, and playing his responsibilities at a very high level for his entire career since he was a rookie
Saints really burned this guy’s career. Glad the dude is excelling elsewhere.
Well, he didn’t produce like this while he was wearing Black and Gold. It’s not a GMs fault if they underperform here
I mean we’ve not struggled with LB play in a long while. So it wasn’t a bad move imo. DD now and then Vilma before that, we have been pretty lucky. The rest of the D on the other hand….
Say it with me… HE WAS GARBAGE playing in Nola. Good for him turning it around somewhere else
I know this sub is not boxscore comparing a HOF trajectory player in Luke to a guy who struggled to breakout of special team play.
I said weeks ago this sub still pined over baun and there were people chirping that things like that never happened… I hope they fucking see it now.
Baun was a talented LB that didn’t fit our defensive scheme but I guess the organization felt they could get him to change his game to suit us. It didn’t work out obviously so now he’s doing what he was always meant to do somewhere else. Looking forward to a whole new defensive system next year actually. We threw away so much draft capital on players for a system that doesn’t seem to work for a broad majority of modern NFL players. Can’t change the past but we can adjust for the future
This is the #1 reason I’m glad DA is gone. If a good player came up in the draft either we drafted them and couldn’t use them because DA’s scheme didn’t fit their play style or we skipped them and got someone we knew that would work in his system.
I forget the DE we skipped because he wasn’t fitting the scheme, dude is killing it on the Eagles I think.
