[Zack Scott] After 2015, we agreed to send Margot and Marco Hernandez to the Reds for Chapman, but it fell apart when we discovered disturbing details about his domestic dispute. We actually informed the Reds about it…I guess enough time has passed without incident for the Sox to be ok with it now.

    Also, purely from a baseball standpoint and taking all of the morality out of it – Hernandez and Margot for Chapman would’ve been a steal. Not that any of that matters, but just thought the return was interesting here.

  4. WOW Breslow is desperate huh? Why would our beloved Red Sox sign a domestic abuser even if he claims it only happened once? There are other relievers to be had. Also this guy is notorious for walking the bases loaded. How can female fans of Boston be ok with this signing and be ok working for the organization anymore? Bad bad bad

  7. I hope the Red Sox start a fund to help victims of DV and make this asshat be the spokesperson for it. I hope he has to tell everyone over and over about what he did and how’s he’s learned and grown from it. That is absolutely the only way I’d even be remotely ok with this signing.

  8. Nine years ago he told police he poked his gf during an argument and then went into his garage, locked the door, and fired 8 shots into a cement wall in anger. He was suspended 30 games and hasn’t had any reports or run-ins since. 

    He wasn’t prosecuted — Florida police couldn’t find enough probable cause to prosecute a black man on domestic violence charges — because of inconsistencies. He said that his gf’s bother threw him down; she said that Chapman put his hands around her neck. 

    There were no pictures, no videos, and no charges. He took his suspension and evidently learned from it. This is America where we have due process and standards of proof. 

    I do not think he is the woman beating monster we wanted him to be when he was starring for the Yankees.

  9. Scott did consulting work for the Rangers in 2023 and that didn’t stop them from trading for Chapman.

    I think it’s too much money and he’s too old.

    That being said…

    He wasn’t awful last year or in previous years. His stuff is still solid. He throws hard and he produces well. He’s experienced.

    The domestic violence thing is abhorrent. In no way do I condone of that. But, he wasn’t charged. He wasn’t convicted. He probably still did it… But there haven’t been any reports of it happening again. Maybe he learned his lesson? I don’t know if I’d go so far as to forgive him, but I won’t outright hate him either.

    The sad reality is that teams don’t care if it equals results.

  16. If you take the character issue out of the equation and just look at the baseball side of things this could be a good signing. The best part is that it’s a 1-yr deal. Our bullpen should be set now.

  17. They’re getting a good deal. At this point we should all know ownership cares more about a good deal than morals or winning. They just want to save money and make it look like they’re willing to spend money

  18. If it helps show Soto we care about winning and he signs then I’m happy. If not then I’m less happy.

  19. Rooting for a spring training blown shoulder for Chapman. That’s the nicest thing I can say about the guy.
