Hughes wasn't showboating. He was trying his best to score a goal. The goalie took away his primary option, and that move was all he was left with. Too bad announcers can't be crosschecked.
The "trying a Michigan or a flashy play and getting cross checked in the mouth" idea is so barbaric. Sure play hard/physical and make it difficult for goal scorers to score but trying to target someone and injure them because they are good just highlights how your team can't hang. Secondly, you're getting a big suspension and hurting your team. You gonna do that to every superstar that walks into a rink on the opposing team?
