  1. We were at 63 wins last year need to be around 85 to make playoffs. We have some work to do yet. Need some additional pitching and another bomber for the offense would be great.

  2. LOA, I thought these Winter Meetings were the worst in the past few years. Nothing big on trades. Also I am a big NO on Suarez. The Angels have got to STOP adding offensive players that strikeout more than games they play!!!

  3. Oh he's done alright in true arte minisian. Fashion trying but not really trying. To get players that are over the hill already or on sale mentality. Nickle and dime deals low ball offers to prime players. Yeah pretty much the same deal.

  4. Now that some FAs are off the board, who do you think are the FAs that the Angel's should concentrate on getting, and are the most likely to sign with the Angels?

I don't think the Angel's are done. I just think they have so many holes to fill that they're not offering enough money to get the big FA guys to sign. I'm sure we'll end up overpaying 1 guy once the list gets super thin and the team gets really desperate. I hope that guy is Ha Seong Kim, His defense and speed never goes on a slump

  5. I want Corbin Burnes pretty bad but we aren't in the Deferred Payment plan. It kinda bothers me when Dodger fans say every team can do it yet I'm screaming at Arte through my phone and yeah… It's not as easy to pull off from a fan perspective.

  6. Perfect let’s sign Polanco that would be perfect. Let’s just add to the mediocrity since that’s what we expect next year.. Actually mediocrity would be an improvement

  7. Totally agree with Jon's rant and I really hope it happens, especially since Burnes seems to have every reason to move to Anaheim outside of whatever deal they offer him, but I'm not optimistic that Arte empties his pockets for him. I think that would require too much self-reflection and change of character on his part, and he's probably not going to be doing that at age 78.

As far as the winter meetings goes, I'm not sad that Perry didn't make any big moves. The Angels are in a weird position where we have players to offer, but not ones that would be an automatic yes from another organization, and I would rather these things take time and end up being good deals than rushed and blow up in our face.

It also feels like Perry is taking a more long-term strategy approach to things by continuing to slowly lay the groundwork to concentrate more on homegrown players. The promise of being competitive in 25 could also mean a lot of things, and not necessarily that we'll be trying for a playoff spot. At this point, the moves made already will make us more competitive in our division, and for all we know that's the real meaning behind their words.

  8. I actually like the idea of going beyond the 26. Instead of total rebuild, it’s more like a remodel. That 27 to 40 needs a lot of work! And no to 90 wins with Corbin Burns! Still at below .500!

  9. Obviously, time will tell. But as a fan, I am not optimistic. I think a slow build is what is in store for us, and hoping we find the diamond in the ruff. I would still prefer to watch young talent on the field than watching over paid veterans.

  10. Great show Super Halo Bros. Jon congratulations on the baby. And Jon always enjoy your rants unlike most people’s rants yours make sense and factual.

  11. Re: big contracts for free agent pitchers — it's not the AAV that concerns me, it's the length of the contract. Paying big money to pitchers in their late 30s and beyond. Why not also promise to pay their AARP membership dues in the last year of the deal.

  12. 100% on burnes. If you lock up your 1, you only have to fill 2-5 for now. With kikuchi for 3 years then we have massive depth and no need to rush these guys. Soriano, detmers, silseth, Dana, aldigheri, klasden to fill the other 3.

  13. They did exactly what they planned on doing. Just enough to get fans excited to see them going out and signing players. But not the players that will make a positive impact. Yeah they got another solid #3 starter and overpaid for him but that was it. Everyone else is somebodies backup on the downside of a mediocre career. Good job Perry.

  14. Please let the rumor be true about getting a midfielder! I don’t want arenado, he is good but I just feel like it would turn into another rendone contract. I would love to see Alec Bohm be our opening day third baseman. To have a left side of the infield with bohm and Neto would be amazing. I wouldn’t mind Suarez either (not the Suarez we currently have).

  15. Every GM interviewed on the MLB Network at the Winter meetings discussed their franchise direction. Not our guy. Minasian shared the moment with his brother– the new GM for the Giants. Once again we strolled down their family's memory lane, listening to their history as clubhouse kids and what they learned. I don't care. I don't need to hear about it ever again. I don't need to hear about a player's character and clubhouse chemistry– we lost 99 games. What chemistry? It's the same bloviating blather we receive from management every year about how we are going to make the team better and compete. They haven't. It's gotten worse. And with these new huge contracts across the league you see how much money is actually available. Why can't this team go get three starters, so we can compete? Kikuchi means nothing if they don't add to him. Why can't we add Walker Buheler and Jeff Montgomery to give us a chance to win. Why not sign Burnes and add the other missing pieces needed to win the division? They won't do it.

We're told the Angels were in on Freid– they weren't. Making a phone call to ask how much Freid wants is not being in on a player. Where are the trades? What trades does Minasian ever make with our roster players? Why are we married to our players and prospects? How is Suarez allowed anywhere near the ballpark? The Red Sox just traded two first round picks for Crochet– where are we? We need a third baseman and a second baseman. If you go with Regnifo at third and he gets hurt… who plays? The same dreck career minor leaguers as last year. Regnifo is strictly the depth piece. Rendon hasn't hit a homerun in a year and a half– he's old, broken down, ineffective and needs to be released. We need a front end starting pitcher– go get Buheler. They need at least two significant bullpen arms. If Trout is in left, where does Ward play? Ward needs to be traded. Is our outfield really Trout, Adell and Moniak? Which of those three is certain to stay healthy and deliver? Are we now locked into Schanuel as our long term first basemen? A .250 hitter with 12-15 HR power is not going to work– see the failed Walsh experiment. They could trade Schanuel and easily plug in many available players inexpensively to get more production short term at first– Rizzo? Go get Alec Bohm to play third– they can offer any mix of Detmers, Anderson, Ward, Regnifo and prospects we're not high on in a package. There are a lot of options at second. Possibly Brandon Lowe from Tampa in a trade for Ward. Why aren't we going hard for the Japanese star pitcher just posted at age-23? If they have an opportunity to draft Holiday they must take him. Take the best player available at #2. How did Moniak work out for the Phillies at #1 when the Phillies tried to save money for later in their draft?

  16. I dig it fellas! The glass looks half full today!! I’m in on Polanco and I’m ALL IN ON C BURNES! Haven’t always been a Perry fan but he’s growing on me, I can see the culture he’s trying to build. Founded on Loyalty !

  17. As a long time Angels fan (Since 1970) and watching how this organization has been run over the last decade, it's hard to have confidence that they will make the "2 big quality moves" that they need to get them to a playoff caliber team. We have watched year after year, everyone knowing that they have needed quality starting pitching and a big middle of the order bat and it not happening. They end up signing, has been pitchers and mediocre bats and then tell us that they got the pitchers and hitters they needed . It's been like this through all of the GM's we have had the last decade, so I still think Arte is and has been the issue. Not saying the GM's are not at fault at all, but there has been one common denominator over the years.

  18. I am normally the first person to point out the flaws of Angels ownership and management. However, I didn't expect the Angels to make a major trade during the Winter meetings. If fact, I would have been very surprised if they had made a major trade. Despite all the speculation that the Angels might trade Taylor Ward, the Angels don't have the depth in the outfield to make such a trade that would make sense They also don't have a wealth of prospects they can afford to trade.

I will only take a large dump of the Angels; and Perry in particular, if he fails to make any serious moves to improve the team and that probably means signing free agents. The Angels clearly need another starter and help in the infield. Ha-Seong Kim should be someone the Angels make a serious play for even though he won't be ready until May. Yes Halo Bros, I agree that even Jorge Polanco might be a worthwhile gamble.

I don't think the Angels need to sign Corbin Burnes, because I think a realistic goal for 2025 is to get to .500. I think vaulting into contention for a playoff spot in 2025 is a pipe dream, but the Angels have to get someone who is at least a legitimate number three starter. Perry Minasian should be highly motivated to make more real improvements. The clock is ticking on Perry's contract and if he can't take the Angels well past .500 in 2026, he may never get a shot at being a GM again.

  19. It’s hard to hear Perry say players want to Anaheim but our cheap owner won’t let him spend the money or a Burnes or Fried. I’ll bet Fried wanted to come to Anaheim but Artie probably said no

  20. Yes. Yep. Uh-huh. For sure. Do it. Corbin Burnes. 1000% It needs to happen, like yesterday. 😂. I know it probably won't happen, but I've been hoping and saying, "We need Burnes!" for a few years.

Not really a question for Fan mail Friday, more like a thought of something that's been bothering me recently. Is there some magical way can we get the sports writers and commentators who don't follow the Angels or know anything about them to stop writing ridiculous articles with almost zero truth to them? So many writers and commentators write on or speak about the Angels in such absolutes and authority, and it's getting ridiculous. It's really easy to tell who does and doesn't actually follow the team. I assumed the last off-season would be bad because all things relating to Ohtani. This season somehow feels so much worse. I know they can't be stopped, but can they at least allow a comment section? 😅.

  21. I agree with a lot of what you guys talked about in this video. The ever pessimist Angels fan in me wonders what the Perry/Arte definition of “do more” is. We have heard that and then got fleeced with a Matt Harvey signing.

  22. Let’s be real. If and until Arte Moreno decides to sell this team to a serious ownership group, this is the type of offseason we can expect. Of course the FO is leading the fan base by the nose, why is anyone surprised? I stopped following the Dodgers when Rupert Murdoch fired Fred Clare and Billy Russell, might be time to consider a reconciliation.

  23. If angels went after burns or Bergman isn’t that their 4th or 2nd round pick in the draft? I don’t think being 2nd pick taking on QO would be wise this draft. Next year is pick 10+ right

  24. Hey halo bros! My sister actually went to school w Corbin and was pretty good friends with him, unfortunately she was kidnapped and brain washed into being a dodgers fan and is trying to recruit him there

  25. Hi Mike & Jon !! Great show,thank you !!
Jon and you too Mike, please, please rant whenever you want !!
It is hilarious and factually spot on !
It also is an awesome reminder of classic Seinfeld episodes !
Jon whenever you want to morph into George Costanza, you
    have my 1000% support !!!!
Jon you seriously have set the bar for George up there and Jason Alexander
better edit in some new material because Jon you have
whupped George in the battle of best rants !
Please, please continue whenever our front office and Arte do something
dumb and deserve to be called out on it !!
    OK, back to Angels baseball,
Yes we all hoped for a more active winter meetings for our
Angels but there is like you both said the ground work being started
for trades, signings and again like you both said there is 2 months
till the earliest part of spring training.
With the glass always half full,
I am forever grateful for the Angels getting the #2 pick in the draft
next July. I would 1000%++ choose this high draft pick as our
biggest winter meetings accomplishment over anything else.
Hoping we do pick x infinity LaViolette.
The young man has serious ability and skill and is a total power
    hitting beast.
Saw him numerous times on tv during the NCAA baseball playoffs
this year and playing in the SEC, the top baseball conference in
the country will accelerate his MLB arrival.
Jace has the ability and potential to be a super star, perennial All Star.
Add him and Christian Moore to our lineup soon and the ceiling
is as far as we can dream.
    Take good care everyone
    Go Angels !!!!

  26. I'm so tired of these guys not going after aces. He spent all this money on Stephenson that really doesn't have the best career numbers then doesn't even pitch. I really dislike this GM but I'm being hopeful to be disappointed I'm sure.

  27. Adding labs and upgrading the facilities!!! Most exciting news I've heard about the Angels in a long long time. I loved the glass half full take about using 2024 tech vs 2012 lol. Serious cope but love the optimism. Honestly, as a life long Angel fan, if given the choice today to have Arte spend $250 million on Burnes or spend the money to have the league's best facilities/labs, I'm choosing labs EVERYDAY ALL DAY. Finally!!! Thanks for the info and update guys, good episode.
