[Botte] The Yanks also have interest in Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and they believe it’s mutual.

  1. I don’t want either Bregman or Alonso, but if they were dead set on one or the other, I’d be fucking ecstatic for Bregman compared to how I’d feel for Alonso.

  2. Man I don’t hate signing Pete in a vacuum, but not after Soto signed with the Mets. That’s just too much weird energy in the city.

  3. Y’all acting like the Yankees didn’t trade for Roger Clemens who helped us win 2 world series and get to two more

  4. what’s the hate for Pete? he’s 123 OPS+ last year, sure he had a down year but what’s to say he doesn’t bounce back?

  5. I can’t be the only one who prefers Alonso over Bregman. I think Alonso’s a one dimensional player but at least I don’t hate the guy.

  6. It’s genuinely funny to me that Mets fans are creaming their pants to keep Alonso and we’re all like “nah we good”

  7. I see a lot of this sub saying not to do this and that Alonso is overrated because of striking out and defense but I would take the opposite stance and be excited to get him. Think of it this way, Hal showed he is willing to spend $50+ mill and that money WILL be spent somewhere because as Penny-pinching as ownership can be lately, these rich fucks care much more about their “legacy” (image/ego) than anything else.

The only thing that matters is getting back to the WS in a weak AL hopefully in the year the dodgers get upset before we have to play them. The best way to optimize this 3 year window and use that 50 mill is to get Judge some god damn protection because we saw how crucial that is and while he isn’t Soto, that doesn’t mean he won’t scare pitchers into pitching to him. Soto sucks and Tucker was never going to happen. Alonso is a great bat and more importantly help for Judge and would be a great win now move which after Fried is obviously going to reflect their contracts given out.

Unless you wanna trade the farm someone like Vlad, it’s probably the best we’re gonna get. I’m cool with bellinger but who else? Bregman lol? Not many names left that can anchor the 3 spot. The only reason I think this doesn’t get done is because the Yankees would be taking the Mets scraps and like I said, ego is a big thing here and that doesn’t seem like yanks MO to be the Mets bitch (after Soto maybe we are but, rings matter most so we don’t know yet)

  8. I know the window is closing, but surely we don’t want to lock ourselves into deals now that prevent us from going after the likes of Tucker/Vlad next year.

  9. The guys is gonna hit 60 home runs here with the short porch. We gotta realize it isn’t 2019 anymore, our lineup isn’t exclusively .200 hitters that can hit 35+ HRs. And that’s not even who Alonso is

He’s a career .250/.340 hitter that averages well over 40 HR per 162. All he costs is money and just turned 30. He’s gonna be an elite power hitter for a couple more years and thats when we will need him.

I know people will hate it but bregman, judge, Alonso, Stanton is a murderers row, like 200 HRs from the top half of the lineup, Bronx bombers back again, murderers row

  10. Yankees gave a note to their friend that said “do you like us? Check yes or no” and told them to give it to Alonso’s friend to give to him.

  11. Yankees desperation is now seeing them turn to guys they were out on. They were out on Pete but now they’re back in because they’re lacking options. Some of this is smokescreen stuff surely.

I’m not opposed to Pete though if it’s a short term deal. He’s not a complete player but the power is real. He went from a Great hitter to a Good one the last two seasons. His strikeouts are up and he’s pulling more pitches which is turning him increasingly into a TTO guy. His defense has also taken a turn for the worse.

It depends on the Bellinger deal honestly. It depends on Bellinger. Preferably, honestly, I’d rather have Bellinger at 1B and another trade for a guy like McCarthy or Thomas for the OF. But only so many assets for trades available that the Yanks would be willing to move.

If they go big term+cash for Pete and/or Bregman it tells you that desperation and panic won out, and that the entire plan on being mindful with their money was a lie. This is a huge moment right now for Cash because he put this team in a position where it feels like they’re boxed in a corner but the truth is they’re really not. But the murmurs are growing slightly louder that it feels like he thinks they are.

  12. .278 batting average with a 1.003 OPS in postseason career. One of the Mets standout offensive players in the 2024 postseason; Career. 249 average with a 134 OPS+, 226 homers in 6 years. Over .400 OBP in every postseason series.

Yankees fans: Oh god please no, we don’t want guys who can hit in the postseason! Please for the love of god!!! We absolutely don’t need someone like him wah wah wahhhhh!

  13. Another strength of Alonso is durability, he takes the field every day, 162 last year. Although that may actually not be for the best because he’s had niggling injuries and played through them. That can catch up to you. But he is durable and that’s needed on a team where the only major power guy after Judge is as injury prone as Stanton is.

  14. Judge-Alonso-Stanton-Bregman as our 2-3-4-5, I see we didn’t learn our lesson from the 2019-21 Yankees about stacking our lineup with slow righty power bats

  15. Mets fans are kinda losing their minds about the possibility of Pete coming to the Yankees. I’m already interested solely for that, I can’t stand them

  16. Not for me, too expensive will want a long contract plus Boras again, Id go Santana 1yr $6-8 mil and see were the markets at next year, Murakami gets posted in 2026 could be worth a shot

  17. I just. I would be sick if I saw judge in Mets colors. I don’t wish the same thing on Mets fans. Pete belongs in queens.

  18. Of course the interest is mutual! Alonso likes the green kind of money just like everybody else.

  19. I’m not sure why people keep acting like we have a lineup full of all or nothing power guys like years past. We are much worse than that. We have a lineup full of low average, low power guys besides a few
