JBB deserves a lot of praise, orchestrated the most controversial moves this offseason but it is paying off

We are miles better defensively and at 5v5 than we were last year too, and JBB deserves so much credit for that. Even though Sergachev is thriving in Utah (which is great to see, I will always want the best for him) we are way better off with what McDonagh and Moser bring, and that was not an easy move to make. I admire JBB’s ability to not care if something has the potential to make him look really stupid if it also has the potential to work out.

  2. Happy to see stammer get his bag.

Happy to see jake being a much needed improvement at 5v5

Sad we lost stammer, and that he doesn’t seem to have much left in the tank in Nashville

  3. I was looking at Stammer’s stats and yeah, he’s almost useless 5v5 for the Preds. All but 1 of his goals have been on the power play

  4. JBB loves to say he’s paid to make the hard choices and I’m glad they’re mostly paying off. Wonder what he’ll bring in at the deadline the way he’s been sending extra guys down to accrue cap space

  5. It’s also cool to see how well he’s done since Yzerman left.  There have been some questionable moves, but overall, he’s kept the team competitive.  Meanwhile the Red Wings are consistently mediocre or worse

  6. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this metric specifically more based on finishing talent and poor opponent goaltending than team improvement? I’d say our expected goals against metrics show JBB’s off season work much better

  7. It’s blatantly obvious how much better we are if just trading Guentzel for stamkos. 5 on 5 is lights out compared to last year and while we started slow on the PP, getting Point into stammers old spot seems to have fixed the glitch.

Also, adding guenzel to the top line allowed Swiss Army knife hagel to drop to 2nd line and we now have 2 really good lines that can score.

Geekie, Moser, and McDonough have all been + moves. Really hard to complain about Brisbois right now.

  8. It’s fantastic having JBB.

I don’t want to speculate too much about the off-season it’s a long way away, but JBB has always shown he has a way to get things done, with the cap going to $92.4M, It’ll be interesting to see who the team targets, move out Sheary and you have around $6M or so to play with.

One thing I wonder about is the RD position. It’s no secret that the Lightning front office likes Ekblad, and he’s a free agent this summer. This would mean Cernak has to go (Whether he waives or not is another thing), but the cap works. The Panthers have a tough decision to make this summer between keeping Bennett or Ekblad. They would be silly to let Ekblad walk.

  9. Remember 2018, unlike the NYR, we don’t hang banners for the regular season. Let’s see a deep playoff run before we call it a good move.

  10. I was absolutely downvoted into oblivion in this sub. I get the “upset” factor with Stamkos, but I say again….people here NEVER witnessed the dark years. LA Kings fans can tell you what happens when you become slow and all the money is tied up into aged superstars, it gets ugly VERY Fast.

Last season we were like the 2nd slowest team, with our moves we got MUCH faster, much younger, and have a much higher ceiling.

This was foreseeable to anyone who actually has played hockey.
