After losing Ben Bishop to injury the previous game, Tampa Bay called up some goalie named Andrei Vasilevskiy to play his first NHL game, 10 years ago today (Dec 16th, 2014). The 20 year-old stopped 23 of 24 shots by Philadelphia to win 3-1.

  1. Since Bishop really seemed destined to the franchise goalie, I thought there’s no way they can keep Bishop and Vasy and assumed they’d eventually deal the Big Cat (who was just a kitten then) for handsome return. I even joked to my Flyer-loving cousin that they should swap Gostisbehere for Vasy. Man, I’m so glad that never happened. All Hail the Big Cat!

  2. Lightning have certainly hit gold on some no name players but first round draft pick Andre Vasilevskiy was not one of them

  3. Yeah it is pretty amazing that he was a second string goaltender and to see what he has become. Good for him. Much respect.
