I'd sign Mad Max just to have him! I'd trade for Alcantara before Flaherty who gets crushed in the ALE.
I'd also try to trade for J Johnson with the Pirates as well. it would be: Scherzer, J.Johnson and Alcantara.
The deal to make is for Dylan Cease. Yes it's another rental but won't cost as much for the same reason and still in his prime. Then next year you have Bradish and a more experienced Rodriguez and you add arms where needed.
I'd love to see an injury free Scherzer on the O's!

Imo at this point it’s make a trade or bust. Burnes at 245 mil is an overpay. I’d love to see him back but if you can get Cease for a decent package, or to a lesser extent Castillo and then go get some help for the bullpen I will gladly take it.
I would like the idea of signing Scherzer only if we trade for Castillo, Cease, or Miller. Scherzer could provide a veteran presence to a young team. He’s also won two World Series.

This is an awful idea. Scherzer was actively bad with the Rangers last year at 40 years old. Add to that he’s not needed assuming we add another actually good starter.
I love Mad Max as much as anyone but I thought he was pretty much near the end when Nats won it all in 2019. He's done, move on to someone else because he's not gonna get healthy miraculously. What they SHOULD have done was offer Walker Buehler a 2-year deal!

I like Scherzer. But if the O's get to the point of signing him, then they might as well bring in Verlander and Kershaw as well, run a six man rotation, and pray only one gets hurt, one is cut bait, and one has one more amazing year left.

Scherzer will turn 41 in July. How much do we want to pay for a Future Hall of Famer who will get injured at some point. He can be a really expensive coach to everyone else, I suppose.
