Astros have one way to get under the CBT and compete

The Astros are already projected to be over the first CBT again for the second straight season after signing Christian Walker. There are many penalties for back-to-back seasons exceeding the CBT. The Astros have been actively looking to deal with former closer Ryan Pressly to open up some cap space. By doing so, they could also answer who is in the outfield. The Astros have added another Alvarez to the farm system, well, they will soon add him.

  1. You’re kind of right about cbt but you explained it wrong. It’s the money you spent all year so if you trade a guy at the break approximately half of his salary goes off your books. You still get charged for the time he was on your team though. If you pick up a guy you only pay for what’s left of his salary for that year.

  2. To me, it makes no sense to have these players and then won't pay them. Then they have to go out and find someone as good or hopefully better. If you get them, pay them to stay. Make them happy so they don't want to leave.
