The fact that you couldn’t even remember the other names with a chance to start shows how mid those options are
At this point Castillo is a number 3 with flashes of an ace. With this said he’s a big game pitcher, he’s at his best in the biggest gsmes
I think the window for Castillo is actually gone. I think we talked to the Mariners before we signed Morton. I think we talked to them and they probably wanted Mayo in return and we said no. I think snatched Morton to make sure we got a pitcher
Don't know why your talking about post season with this team its a lot worse than last year. To many subtractions with NO real additions. As long as Elias is GM there is no World Series the report about him definitely seems true. To much of a coward to give big money and be responsible for it
Castillo is a bum. He was 11-12 with a 3.40 era last year has never won more then 15 he did once. Two 14 win seasons . They need to find a better trade partner. The have young talent to shed. They can't keep everyone they can't afford it. Orioles have plenty of guys start locking up these young guys like the braves did and figure out how to get good young pitching.
I feel like I am the only Orioles fan who thinks the pitching is not our issue and that the hitting in the summer last year ruined our season and now we are about to lose Tony. The Yankees are going after Arraez. Sometimes we are so late to the game. It just drives me crazy. We need an on base hitter.
Can we get. One of the younger dudes atleast for that price?
I swear y'all love him cause he's Cal son this dude don't think the Orioles can do no wrong
We wasn't lacking vet pitching
As a Mariners fan, they are a “cheap” ownership as why they’re not willing to spend on or trade for anyone without adding onto their payroll of something like $150-$160 million payroll for 2025 season. It’s stated they have only $15 million currently this offseason they can spend. Luis Castillo cost something like $20+ million this season, they would prefer to shred that off their payroll. As why they’re looking to trade him. To the orioles for him + add in a prospect too for either Coby Mayo, Mountcastle or Jordan Westburg.
Castillo, Flaherty, and Cease are not worth the cost. Elias is trying to cover his butt now at any cost!
O's should be going after Seattle's Miller, not Castillo . Miller is worth the cost!
Cal: O's don't find a real ACE for this third rate pitching staff, there will be no Post Season and both Elias, and that incompetent Hyde should be FIRED! Castillo is NO ACE by any standard!
Cal: when light is shined on crap? It's still crap!
Let's be honest. The Orioles rotation as it stands, is not a playoff rotation. They need a starter that moves the rotation slots down. Someone that is AS GOOD as Eflin/GRod. Not to mention Eflin/Morton will be gone after this season, causing this musical chairs activity again…..
If Elias over pays to cover his butt, it still hurts the teams farm system!
I can tell you right now, it’s not mounty or Heston they’re looking at, it’s westburg, mayo and a pitcher
Bettet just be Mayo if anything
I don’t think people are adding in the extra value that DiPoto snuck in to the contract. If Castillo gets Tommy John between 2025-2027.. his vesting $25M year in 2028 becomes a $5M team option. In an era where pitchers are increasingly getting this injury, having some insurance built into the contract is huge. Castillo also has been a workhorse. This depends on the orioles and what they want to pay. Pay less in talent and take on the money? Great you get Castillo. Want any of the other four? Gonna take you multiple MLB ready pre arb bats. Just the way it is. Castillos $$$ is what makes him realistic without subtracting major pieces.
Really hope we can make a trade happen. Orioles and M’s pair up nicely for a deal. You guys signed a 41 year old Charlie Morton, who had a 4.19 ERA, 99 ERA+, and very underwhelming analytics in his profile. For $15M. Yes Castillo is more expensive but he’s younger, durable, and has better underlying stuff. 93rd percentile fastball value & 82nd percentile breaking value.
Also the current pitching market, Castillo is on a friendly deal. If you guys get him you will be happy. He’s a great pitcher and while he has declined slightly with age as expected, it’s only so noticeable when paired with our stellar young guys just entering their primes. If you guys get Castillo it would be a good addition for sure. For multiple years. Great veteran presence in your rotation also.
Let’s go O’s
Mariners fans, what do you think of Ryan Mountcastle, Chayce McDermott, and Jud Fabian for Luis Castillo? That’s a package I’d be willing to give if I’m Mike Elias, but I’m not currently the O’s GM.
Mayo/Kremer for Castillo /Ford
Thinks Castillo is expensive, enjoy Morton fellas
Castillo is 3 more years with a 4th vesting option if he doesn’t get TJ in final 2 years of his contract just a heads up
No way I’d move Kjerstad.
We let Hays, Santander and soon to be an afterthought Cedric Mullins play its course. Kjerstad is more than deserving of a shot at everyday play at this point..
We can move Beavers, Cedric, possibly Mounty, Jud Fabian, you name it.
We can’t count on O’Neil to be healthy and Kjerstad figures to be slotted in at the opposite corner outfield spot and maybe even 1st base.
Outfield of the future with platoon DH possibility should be Kjerstad, Cowser, Bradfield Jr, and Honeycutt.
Sign Flaherty and Scott. Would only lose one draft pick. Solidify the starting rotation and the bullpen. We don't have to give up a bat.
Mariner fan here. I've been listening to your take on the potential for a trade, and it brings to my mind a slightly different scenario. What if Seattle was willing to eat $5 million of Castillo's contract, PLUS sends one of our top tier middle infielders, for Mayo?
Ryan… You and I have talked about eating hot dogs from the pack without cooking them. These casts are getting better as they stay shorter. I'd like to see Cease. But I am not disappointed with the Os as they are entering the season as there is so much time to do other things as the season progresses. "Fans" should not dictate the direction of the team. Intelligent reflection should.
