I get that if there’s even a chance he won’t be a Dodger that teams are going to try and be in the mix, but from the jump it all felt like a dog and pony show on his end

Okay, I know nobody is surprised here, but I actually think this is a bigger failure than Ohtani, because the Giants had both a stronger argument in principle and stronger player interest. This one is really really disappointing. I genuinely thought the Giants had a shot, because their argument could’ve been SO good. Pitchers park, location, best defender in baseball would be his catcher, excellent INF defense, opportunity to define own path–create a great narrative and rivalry. Giants also have a strong, recent track record of helping pitchers get huge contracts. Given what was said about his homework assignment, either their track record wasn’t strong enough or they answered it poorly. Honestly, I think the FO likely deserves significant blame for this one (pending future evidence, unlike Ohtani). I would guess primarily Bannister, but who knows. Would have been a great personality fit too. God dammit. Please dont be a Dodger…
