What. A. Close. One! It was neck and neck between Brendan Smith and Miles Wood, but with a final vote tally of 122 Brendan Smith, and 115 for Miles Wood, Brendan Smith was voted into the square!
Today? Controversy – Who is the best player that we hate the most!? Put in your answer, and let’s find out!
Reminders!
– We are voting on the square with the Question Mark, so put your answer in or upvote the answer you agree with!
– A player can only be used for a square ONCE, and its from any era of our franchise! So even if it was 1 game back in 1991, if they wore our sweater they are eligible!
LETS GO DEVILS!
This should be a quick thread.
Kovalchuk….(not me personally)
It’s Kovalchuk, though unwarranted.
Everyone I’ve talked to recently hates easy breezy Zach Parise for some reason so I’ll say him for this round
Just put Ilya and move on to next
Kovalchuk is the only answer
Retirychuk.
Kovalchuk
Kovalchuk
Kovalchuk no question
Kovy is my answer. He basically quit on us. He bailed in the middle of his contract and we still have a cap penalty on this year’s cap (this is the last year of that finally). It seemed like Kovy never wanted to be here. At least to me it seemed like he didn’t really give a shit after he got his big contract.
Parise left as a FA to go home and play with his buddy Suter. Sucks that he left but he was a FA.
I’d be interested to see if anyone can even come up with a reasonable argument for someone other than Kovalchuk.
Hmmmm I’m really thrashing about trying to come up with someone. I need to thinK about tHis a Little longer
Where does mcleod fall in this row? Average?
Might get downvoted into oblivion for this but Scott Gomez.
Kovalchuk I have gotten over. I can now look back at his short time here and appreciate that I was watching an incredible hockey player and, until Jack, arguably the most talented forward the Devils have ever had. He deserves a lot of praise for his willingness to buy into Jacques Lemaire’s style of play – the stereotypical New Jersey Devils style of play. His transformation into a more complete player under that coach was a treat to watch.
Yes, he left the team hanging in his prime. But at least he left the continent. Gomez, a homegrown Devil and son of Lou, also arguably in his prime, left a competitive Devils team to sign with the Rangers. There can be no greater betrayal for a New Jersey Devil.
I would’ve thought Parise here and Kovy in the fans divided one. Kovy leaving saved us from a bad contract in the back half of the contract. Parise leaving for nothing was just the start of the domino effect.
Kovy being majority here is such crap, frustrates me..
Feels like the next one is the gimmeist of all though in McLeod, so maybe we should just skip again to the bottom right square? 😀
Kovalchuk for sure
Kovalshit
Kovy
KOVALCHUK
Kovy
People are not gonna like this answer but
Scott Niedermayer. AKA Needsmybrother.
The fact that he bailed on us for fuckin ANAHEIM always bothered me and I will probably resent him forever for it.
And then the final kick in the ass: his brother, who sucks!!!, comes here and he doesn’t come back!
Kovy, would of been in the hall of fame and probably had his jersey raised if he stayed. Set the franchise back 10 years bailing out on us
Koooovy
Kovy
We know this is Kovy lol but boy do I have a spicy one for tomorrow
Kovalchuck is the lightning rod but what about John MacLean? Franchise leader for over a decade, demands a trade, later goes across the river, and his legacy vaporizes. Later returns with a disasterous coaching stint. In 1995, it was inconceivable 15 wouldn’t be in the rafters one day; now it’s not even a consideration.
The answer is probably Kovalchuk, but I think that’s only because Brendan Shanahan signed with St. Louis as an RFA at 22 years old before the internet existed.
Obviously, it helps that Lou was able to steal Scott Stevens as compensation, but Shanahan bailing on the Devils was a real gut punch.
It’s clearly Gomez. He left to go to the Rangers. Anyone voting for Kovy is either too young or forgot the betrayal of going to our arch rival. He was our number 1 center. Time heals all wounds but that was the worst. And I loved that he stunk for years after that. Kovy didn’t go to the Rangers.
