  1. As a lifelong Dodgers fan right down to my very DNA, I was a thorough Vin Scully devotee, though I didn't cry when Vinny passed in 2022. Today, I've been leaking around the eyes ever since this morning, which is a bit embarrassing for a 66-year-old man, but that's okay; I've loved him ever since I first saw him with Johnny Carson on TV, way back in the early 70's, and it's a loss that hurts terribly. To all of you devoted Brewers fans: please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Ueck; our hearts are with you throughout Los Angeles and all of SoCal. He really WAS "Mr. Baseball," and now he's finally made it to heaven's "front rowwww…"

  2. I'm not a Brewers fan but my condolences to you all. To your point about TV, I feel like all the genuinely great baseball announcers have been radio guys and the great ones still remaining are. Possibly because they have more room to be themselves without directors telling them what to talk about.

  3. Truly sad, but don't forget to appreciate that we had the best there was for over FIFTY YEARS! We were very lucky. Bob was lucky. It was perfect.

One of my favorite Ueck memories was a game in the early 2000s when the Brewers were getting blown out, Bob spent 3 or 4 innings complaining about a printer he had recently bought. One of the funniest things I've ever heard.

  4. In the late 80's, went to a game with a friend who had luxury box tics right next to the broadcast booth. Talked with the attendant, asked if he could have Bob do a shoutout, Happy Birthday to my elderly neighbor, Augie Fisher. Wrote down the info for him and lo and behold, the next day I went to visit Augie and he broke into tears having heard the shoutout. Was a huge Brewers fan and best neighbor ever.

  5. Bob Uecker was a rare example of a living legend. I mean, he has not one but two! statues of himself at AmFam field. I've always been a radio guy and followed his calls since I was a kid. I recall when he would be gone for a few weeks while filming Mr. Belvedere, and I just couldn't wait for his return. There was just no replacing him in the booth! And so it would be a relief when his stint with the show ended. I'd sit at our kitchen counter while facing our humble AM radio and just listen to the games.
So that was like 40 years ago, and here I am pushing 50 and was still listening to him through the 2024 season! That's amazing, truly.
But last season, I could tell that he wasn't going to be in the booth much longer. I paid closer attention than usual and latched onto those stories, which maybe I had taken a bit for granted. We won't be hearing anyone else talk about their time playing with the likes of Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro, and Sandy Koufax. Those folks are disappearing.
What makes it so hard to hear about his passing is that he was still calling games and doing a good job. He did what he loved right until the end. Yeah, the Brewers kept falling short, but I feel like his presence helped balance things out. We didn't get the World Championship, but hearing Uecker call the games made you feel like you were part of something special, even if the team itself wasn't always up to the task.

  6. My favorite Uecker call is difficult to say. The Brewers were so bad for so long, I remember as a kid that Uecker was the only reason I would tune into Brewers games. It's fair to say that Uecker is the whole reason why I got into baseball… The only reason I started playing little league is because Ueck got me excited for the sport, and I played through high school.

Ultimately, I'd have to say is his call when Sabathia closed the door on the Cubs to send the Brewers to the playoffs in 2008. That was the first time in my entire life I saw the Brewers in the postseason (I was 20 when it happened), so it was an extremely emotional moment for me. Uecker's voice made it all the more memorable.

  7. Many a Sunday night after a long fun weekend at my cousins’, station wagon’s packed to the gills with a family of 8 headed home through the long dark stretch of cranberry bog, falling all over each other fighting off sleep, listening to Euck call the Brewers game. Great memories etched in my hardwire. We had The Bob Eucker seats…must be in the front roooow!

  8. To this day I still remember where I was, and who I was with during some of Bob Uecker's most famous calls. I was 8 years old, walking to the corner store with my transistor radio, as I heard Ueck call Sixto Lezcano's opening day walk off home run. I was in my back yard, listening with my dad, as he called Deer and Svuem's improbable homers to extend the streak to 12 games. I was at my best friend's house when he described Yount's diving catch to close out the Nieves no hitter. I was in my college apartment when I cheered his call as the kid got his 3000th hit. I had tears in my eyes as I listened to those calls again today. Ueck's voice provided me with so many special memories of the people I was with during those special moments. Those memories, like Bob Uecker, will live in my heart forever!!

  9. For a short time there was a segment during the broadcasts where Bob would answer listeners questions. I can’t remember exactly how you pose the question it was before the Internet so it possibly was a call in to phone number. Bob often talked about Borchert Field the home of the minor league Brewers before the Braves moved to Milwaukee from Boston. My question to “Ask Ueck” was if he had ever played there. A few days after I asked the question and answer made it on to the broadcast. If my memory is correct he said he played in a high school all- star game but never as a minor leaguer at the field he grew up a few blocks from. RIP

  10. I was at a philadelphia phillies game In 2008 and bob was there doing play by play for the brewers and he waived to the crowd. He was one of a kind

  11. We used to see Ueck at Ray Jackson’s and he was always gracious and accessible. A true MKE icon. My Lake Michigan fishing buddies and I would also see him out on the lake in his boat named Front Row and he would always respond to our questions .
Thank you for your show tonight Chuck. It will not be the same without him.

  12. 😭🍻 Voice of my summer all of my 46 years. He was supposed to live another 30 years to speak at my funeral. I remember working nights in my younger years listening to so many games. We will all miss him dearly.
