These people don't understand how the CBT and deferred works yet talking about them… they all count… all deferred payments are counted towards the cbt every year. There's reason why we talk about aav. Ohtani's case, he is 46m aav as 2m are paid to him every year, and 44m are put into escrow for deferred payment with interest.
Deffered money is not a loophole.
What is all come down to for deferred payment are the owners! Every team can use that if they want to. All the other teams just do not want to. They could be more competitive that way if FA see other teams willing to differ payments as well, then they may be more willing to sign with other teams.

When people say they don't develop talent, why is it that the Dodgers draft late, lose draft picks and positions, but still have a top 10 farm system. First of all, deferred money is not forced by the teams but have to be agreed by the PLAYERS, who can refuse, then it's up to teams to accede or lower offer or pass. Secondly, the deferred money has to be funded and put in escrow and also counts as team tax threshold. Otani was paid $700 million contract with initially no deferred money but it was Ohtani who suggested to defer 98% so that savings can be spent to recruit other players. Income is calculated at present value of aprox $465M for tax calculation and not $2M/year. Yamamoto's $325M has no money deferred.
