Cards were 7th in attendance in 2024.
Mozeliak has lost his touch and became a joke. The start of the downward turn was the hiring of Mike Matheny as manager to replace LaRussa. They are the classic example of making mistakes and bad decisions and then doubling down on them instead of admitting the mistake and moving on. The fans feel like Mo wants to control everything and wants a manager and coaching staff that will bow to him. The team regressed every year under Matheny and every year they got away from the LaRussa influence. Mo finally fires Matheny and his horrible hitting coaches and replaces him with Schildt. The team starts winning and hitting under the coaches from AAA (that had always been used to fix Mabry's screwups when he was the hitting coach). Instead of staying with these hitting coaches, they demoted and then ultimately fired both of them in favor of Jeff Albert. Then Mo fires Schildt over BS and replaces him with this clown Marmol. Marmol is terrible and seems to have no clue what he is doing. The players look flat playing for him and seem like they do not want to be there. Instead of firing Marmol and finding a real manager, they extend him. Mo spends money horribly on free agents (Fowler, Cecil, Leake, Matz) and resigns guys to way more money than he should (M. Carpenter and Mile Mikolas) He likes to say their market cant compete with the big revenue clubs but that is only true when the money you do spend is spent poorly. Its a sad end but it seems that Mo's days of being a quality GM and baseball exec are over. He knows the fans and local media dont want him around but, instead of taking a back seat in his final year, he took over the GM roll, continues speaking to the media about baseball operations, and even had to make a comment on how he is the guy in charge this year even though the media and fans dont want to hear from him. His ego is costing this franchise. A healthy ego is good but this guy is off the charts.
