Pewter Pulse: Could The Bucs Be Better Off WITHOUT LIAM COEN?
Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen stunned the organization by going back on his word and taking the Jaguars head coaching job on Thursday night. Should the Bucs have hired Coen to be their head coach or did Tampa Bay dodge a bullet in the end? Scott Reynolds discusses Coen’s departure on a NEW Pewter Pulse.

There was some sketchy plays called in that playoff game so I am glad he left. I think we could have done a lot better if he didn't try to call the stupid jet sweep, trick plays and just called more simple stuff. I appreciate him helping the run game but I feel like the plays could have been better. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
Well now that we know what kind of person he is
I'm not really concerned about the OC ,between Jason and coach Bowels. The one thing that i wasn't happy about Coen is the way he went about the process.
Bring back Byron Leftwich first down run second down past third down screen fourth down punt let’s go!!
I was a little baffled about Coen, I was super disappointed when I heard he left. But Scott I appreciate you so much for bringing clarity to the whole situation. After listening to the podcast, I feel so much better about moving on from Liam. Thank you for your resolve and wisdom. We all have to remember that Jason and Todd accounts for the majority of coaching and player hires. Faithfully looking forward to camp!
Imagine having offensive weapons like evans , godwin, mcmillian, white, bucky tristian, baker and we are on our 4TH OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IN 4 YEARS. why would you even say fire Bowles, hes won the division for how many years now? Injuries are whats killing this team not bowles. Pls stop saying fire bowles hes not going anywhere.
Rejection is PROTECTION… We will be just fine! GOOOOOOO BUCS!!
That Bowles coaching tree is really sprouting.
DAMAGE CONTROL ATP. NO WAY YOU REPLACE THE OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION WE PUT UP IN THE 2024 SEASON. I FEEL FOR BAKER AND MIKE THE MOST TOO GOOD TO SEASONED TO HAVE TO KEEP LEARNING NEW PLAYBOOKS. TAMPA FUMBLED THE BALL 🏈
Coaching makes a difference and Coen was improvement over Canales. It is highly unlikely that they can hit the jackpot again with an offensive coordinator. I feel sorry for Mayfield who has never had the same coordinator two years in a row. You can't build on the chemistry this offense has when you have to learn a new system every single year.
His dad did a poor job of teaching Liam how to do things the right way. He's pulled the same stunt many times. My Kentucky friend said when they hired Liam we were gonna regret it. He would leave for higher ground. Karma will bite his ass guaranteed! Go bucs we will steady the ship, our culture is steadfast!
Very well done sir. We’re lucky to have you in Tampa. Go Bucs – watching from Denver.
It’s like saying the Rams can still win without McVay 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's business in every walk.of life one door closes another one opens.
.
We have a great offense line that's the key
We need linebacker and pass rusher
I will miss cohens schemes he made it hard for the defense
I would go with Josh!! He already knows the strengths and weaknesess of all the players. He already knows Coens offense like the back of his hand. Assuming all the players would like and support him they would give it their best. He would be getting a raise and a quick step up the ladder towards head coaching. Having managed a business with many employees in my career I can think off no reason not to do this!! Give him a 1 year contract with a 1 year next season option with lots of financial incentives thrown in and watch it fly!!
Instead of Baker making the O.C look good, he needs to just play with his heart, he’ll figure that shit out. He saved Bowles job, even without Cohen.
Great players coach themselves
This whole situation made me want to stand behind Bowles
If it was all players and not Liam, why did Bucs try so hard to keep him?
yes hire a decent OC and a DC
I need to draft defensive backs and some linebackers.
We need help on the defence more than offence/ we did improve/ but we were never Healthy
One sure thing! Mike Evans!!! Period
Great input. Good job Scott.
Thanks
I know a lot of people want Bowles gone… but he's the first coaching hire in 40+ years that has won the division 3 seasons in a row to start.
Why can't we steal one of the Playoff teams OC's?
Who's the OC for Washington?
That back pedal is REAL. Y'all slump bout to hit next season like Strouds did THIS season.
And the lions are FUXKED TOO!
#DUUUVAL
Try to get Jay Gruden an offensive guru!
I was mad at Liam initially, but it was the Bucs fault for not at least doing a mid-season contract extension making him highest paid OC.
U need to watch the Breer Report! Albert Breer did the timeline of Coen proving he had ZERO CHARACTER! Jon Gruden won a Super Bowl BUT players didn’t trust him & he never ever did much after! Liam coen character flaw will rear its ugly head at some point! Good luck Jags! What a POS u hired
That is a beautiful speech by SR.
It's 9:01 about time that someone gives Todd the appropriate credit– for keeping special unity and caring beyween players and coach!
himself.
That said, Liam was good enough and ready to become a head coach.
Had the Galzers just let Bowles go and offered Luam the HC, im sure he would have stayed with the Bucs.
Who's to say that a better O line and the team just meshing together with some good rookie players sprinkled in weren't responsible for the improvements?
Of course. It was the players making him look good. He ain't all that pluss with his shetty ass play kalls.
Just stop stop with the bullshit notion that the succaneers could be better off without liam cohen there's one two people the succaneers would be better off without and thats the two cancers on the team and that todd toilet bowles and faker mayfield because newsflash they're the two cancers that's holding the team back. And until both of them are gone this team will never reach another nfc championship and sure as hell not another superbowl. Hell the jaguars will when a superbowl before the succaneers win a third one.
"Could The Bucs Be Better Off WITHOUT LIAM COEN?"
Yes.
It’s not like they can’t implement the plays that worked last year with the next guy, they don’t bring a whole new playbook they just use what works and add plays from their own arsenal. No ones mentioning the bad play calling in his only playoff appearance as well
Dumbest decision in the history franchise history and possibly all time NFL worst ever. Bucs are trying to be the Jets or Browns, or even make them look brilliant. Dumbest dumb in the history of dumb! Bucs be lucky to get to 6-11
It won't last in Jacksonville, he'll end up getting fired. Tampa Bay is in a much better position.
Why is everyone acting like this guy helped us win a Super Bowl? We’ll be just fine without him.
Tampa is acting like a spurned lover whose boyfriend left her for a super model. Get over it it’s the NFL. Things change remember Leeman Bennett
Bucs spot is more enticing than the Detroit OC spot
Jags need to fix the oline, lawrence is an ok qb, they have decent wrs and tightends, they need a true number 1 running back as well, bigsby is a good number 2, etienne would be a good 3rd down back.
Tbh I think coen was the best oc the bucs have probably ever had but with a totally hole new one I think it wouldn’t get worst but not as explosive
Coen's not the be all and end all (I can say that now he's gone 😄), let's just get a decent OC, and move on. LFB GO BUCS 😃🏴☠💪🏈.
Great takes by SR, "volatility and reactionary" behavior as well as immaturity? Ok, I kind of get where Scott is coming from here. Midway through the season would be during the losing streak, when tempers could get a bit short. Bowles kept the team at even keel during that rough stretch as he did the year before. I could see how certain people could have a meltdown under such stressful situations. Volatility can be a motivator in a sport like baseball where either a fiery guy like Lou Piniella or a more sedate gentleman like Joe Maddon get run in a ball game and hype their team up but football is a different beast. Perhaps the issues Scott has alluded to pop up in Jacksonville if things do not go well or as planned per Liam Coen, if so, Scott Reynolds will have proven himself to be another Nostradamus yet again!
