Should the Nashville Predators Be Concerned About Juuse Saros?

The Nashville Predators led by Filip Forsberg and Steven Stamkos had been on a five game win streak, but Saturday night Mason McTavish and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Preds 5-2. On today’s show, we recap this weekend’s game with “one word” to describe the loss and look at the factors that led to a lackluster performance from Nashville. We discuss the lineup decision Andrew Brunette made that raised eyebrows among the fan base. We also break down the recent goaltending statistics for Juuse Saros and debate how many of the recent goal against fall solely on Saros’s shoulders.

  1. There is definitely something going on with Juice, (assuming he's healthy) it seems like Bruno has built some trust in Annunen (which is fine). The bigger picture is if it's a health thing or fatigue thing can Annunen get in a few more games? Preds brass may need to scale back his workload. Otherwise it's not all him. Trotz nees to address getting Top 4 D that's reliable coming here at the deadline (or even a good 2 way wing that can defend well) Juice is not getting enough support on D and that's a big problem. This team is giving up way too many quality looks and high danger chances. It's great the offense is going and we are getting the goal scoring but we can't outscore and out shoot everyone too much offensive talent even on a bottom dweller like San Jose and a middle of the road team like the Ducks. You don't defend well enough and you are putting massive pressure on the offense to deliver.

  2. One thing that I think is worth looking into as well is the defensive schema that Burnette implements. Not pointing the finger at Burnette specifically, but there may be some communication issue with the defense and how Burnette wants them to play defense. It's worth saying that one 2 members of the current Preds defense played in Burnette's system before, being Josi and Lauzon (who has missed almost half of the season up till now due to injury). Everyone else is new.
