1. I hope Sharks and Granlund have reached some handshake agreement about some 3 years at 6M cap hit or something. Granlund is awesome for Sharks and, overall, in this role of 1C on a deeply rebuilding team.
2. Acquiring Granlund mid-season hasn't really been a stellar move so far. Preds in 19, Pens in 23, I think he had something like 20-1-4-5 record for both.
I'm imagining San Jose is going to acquire some other placeholder veterans for the rest of the season to fill out their roster. Perhaps by giving up everyone's favorite, "future considerations." There are enough teams that would be willing to give up players to open up roster spots or cap space.
i usually agree with steve..but not on this trade
what were the sharks thinking man…ceci and granlund could have fetched a 1st pick and 2nd here i do believe…terrible trade by sharks, there was huge market for ceci n especially granlund but a 1st and 4th was a bust…a stars decent prospect should have been involved in a rebuilding sharks team here for these 2 great shark players
STEVE I JUST NEED A BREAK JESUS get your insiders to have them Wait 😂😂😂
Dallas 2025 Stanly Cup Winners.
Ah yes, another team is taking a bite of the Ceci cherry. He sucks ass.
since everyone making trades will the Leafs get rid of marner for something?
Not an over sell yet they can get someone’s dead weight from the waver wire later perhaps a project player to finish this season then they have cap money to spend if they want to add a top veteran in off season
stars getting mr. game 7 lol
Ps i want Marner next year as a shark fan lol
the NHL has turned into the NBA. Also, the Sharks are now so far from being an ok team again
Great trade. Stars only gave up a high draft pic and needed help at defense and center, gave up no prospects
I like Granlund for the Stars and I think the Sharks are overselling unless they are going to use some of their picks to get a younger veteran replacement. Bedard is the focus of every oppositions best every game and it makes it so much harder for him. Same with Buffalo – they have drafted lots of good young players and they were thrown to the wolves each time – look like busts and then are great for their next team.
It's a fourth. Even if the Stars do make the finals, it is so late in the third round it might as well be a fourth.
Ceci will for sure replace Dumba who might get off loaded to another team before the deadline
One thing should be noted about the 2022-23 season for Granlund is that he was going through a divorce in spring-summer 23. That probably didn't help his time in Pittsburgh.
The Kuzmenko snub here 🙁
Into each life, a little Codi Ceci must fall.
…. and nowhere did I hear both are UFAs after this year.
I always forget Granlund has been around for that long in the show
As a dallas stars fan, i am always glad to scoop up the sharks players i like, cause i also like sj. 🎉 and look how well pavs worked out we still feel the effects of pavelski and hes retired
Granlund can play some good hockey, I'd take him.
Honestly I feel like Ceci is even worse than some people think. Brett Kulak was doing great on the third pair last year until we finally demoted Ceci and Kulak fell off a cliff playing with him (despite making Vincent Desharnais look good previously). I don't think he's an NHL defenseman on a serious team anymore.
I think it’s a good trade for both teams. I think sharks can go after some ufas in the summer with all this cap space.
Stars fan here, I guess I look at it as a 1st for Granlund and a 3.5th for Ceci. I never want Ceci on my team, but I think they are trying to stop temporary bleeding with Heiskenen out and they know that they have good depth on D that can move up into that role for a couple months if they put Ceci on the bottom pair. Of course, they don't make this move at all if Heiskenen doesn't go down. The big move is Granlund though, obviously, and I think they really want and need pass-first players to get the puck to their scorers. They've been lacking great playmakers for a while and its made a potent forward group more anemic at times than it should be. Hopefully it helps, but it was definitely a bit steeper of a cost than I would have liked. I never like seeing a Dallas 1st go the other way for a depth player who may only be here for a season. They aren't getting any younger and are going to need all of the draft picks they can get to stave off that entropy.
Stars are a great team. Granlund will blossom more playing on a team with 3 other Fins on the Stars…he will be happy and fit in and flourish
Great trade for both teams!!
Jesus who lost the bet that we had to take Ceci . Swear to God he better not be on Dallas pp jfc
Sharks have the cap space to take on bad contracts for this season. I think they'll be fine
Sharks fan here. Glad to see Cece go. I was hoping they would extend Granny, but I get it. Good return.
It has taken me to be drunk (It is midnight here, don't judge me) to appreciate the editing of these videos. This is basically 6 minutes of 15 second clips merged together. Show some love to the guys behind the scenes (As well as Steve)
If Ceci is in the stars lineup in the playoffs they’re screwed.
I'm a Sharks fan and here's my view:
Love the move for a first given Granlund was a throw-in that turned into your top-line center. They are going to miss his ability up front with no replacement coming back, but I do think the sharks can either get a replacement via another trade or find within someone to carry that until free agency.
Ceci has been somewhat serviceable but I'm so glad he's gone. A 4th is probably worth more than I thought they'd get.
There are several guys the Sharks can move before they sell too much as Stave worries. The sharks have pieces to move and need to get the best possible return from as much as possible. They've already shown the moves currently aren't paying off. I will admit I was found this season honestly has been much more fun to watch than the last few and things are moving in a good direction
Dumba is not “fine.”
I think this trade is fine. Only thing I dislike is that I view the Stars as a big rival thanks to the 90s. But it's the best offer on the table. Gotta do it.
The Sharks still have vets like Tyler Toffoli and Alex Wennberg who are good mentors to the young guys. Sad to see Granlund go but his value was too high not to capitalize
Sharks fan here….really sad to see Granlund go. Steve, your point about how important guys like this are to the development of guys like Celebrini and Smith is a key one. But it seems likely to me that, at 32, he likely wanted to move on to a playoff contender and this was the optimal moment for him to do so given how brilliantly he has played in SJ. He's a GREAT pickup for the Stars and they will love him in Dallas. i hope the Sharks will package that 1st round pick to trade for an established NHL defenseman, rather than drafting a D prospect and having to wait 3-4 years for him to mature into an NHL-level player. They really need help on the blue line.
as a sharks fan i’m thrilled
we’re going to have like 40 million in cap space
It's basically an early 4th round pick if the Stars go to the finals.
I'm a casual Dallas Stars fan (also a Mavs fan) – can someone explain this to me in NBA terms?
I can't imagine Ceci is worst than Dumba, so anything that bumps Dumba down vastly improves Dallas's defence. They still have Oettinger behind that defence,
The Sharks defense needs an entire revamp for next year. Getting rid of Cici is the first step and im grateful he's gone. I cant skate better than the guy, and I cant skate.
hopefully this isnt a downgrade in yahoo production for us!
Grier did great on this trade! Grandlund was a throw in and get out of Pittsburgh in the EK65 trade!
