sign bregman, move shaw to 2nd, trade hoerner in a package for dylan cease and we win 90 plus games
This is so different than anyone they gave a deal to before. Bregman is 30 WAR from HOF and he is motivated. He is a high character guy who Altuve is begging to bring back and Alex Cora wants him & HINCH too. In 5 years he will be 35, which is how old Freeman is.
If they didn't sign BOYD this wouldn't even be a difficult decision. Bregman is a winner and Tyler B cubs coach said bullpen is done.
Also when I do projections I put 135 to 140 games per starter. 1 game a week off per player. Dodgers always have 11 full time players for 9 positions
Sign Bregman for 28m x 5 yrs = 140m. Trade Horner to the Yankees or Mariners for two prospects. Send those two prospects along with Assad and Alcántara to the Padres for Cease. By shedding Hoerner’s salary you still stay under the luxury tax. Shaw is your new 2b.
You can't use Shaw as a utility guy and shuffle him between positions. Puts too much pressure on a rookie. Forget Bregman, Shaw will be him in 2 years at a fraction of the cost.
Cease would cost us Shaw + other prospects. No deal. Sign Robertson, Kyle Gibson, a 4th OF. Canario is not the answer. (Should have kept Tauchman).

Brendan botched the $ left according to the source he was using. He was saying 34M when that spreadsheet pretty clearly has 43M as of 1/31. They would still have 15M in room if you sign bregman for 28 AAV. Clean it up.
