If we’re moving Dobson, which could very quickly become the Toews trade part 2, I’d move him Vancouver for Pettersson
Vancouver gets: Dobson, engvall, hogberg, and a second
Isles get: Pettersson
If it’s to Montreal I’d need caufield or slafkovsky back in the return. Otherwise I’m not interested in anyone else. They won’t move demidov or Hutson
That’s a big bet on the notoriously unstable DeAngelo…
vancouver, send us nice things back including AATU
Please don’t extend
Yes
Unless a team is offering first for Brock, I’m not interested. Especially since he’s generally gotten better over the last few years + I think he’ll age well. A reasonable extension should be considered. Dobson is a year removed from putting up a 70 point season. Trading him at his lowest makes no sense. I’m open to moving anyone else
Dobson absolutely sucks, the hopium on him is too high he’s a secondary assist merchant that makes boneheaded plays all the time
The thing the Dobson stans fail to admit is he can be offer sheeted and the cap just went up. Lou is debating whether to deal with him being offer sheeted or turn him into something the team needs now and in the future.
If some dumb team offer sheets Dobson at 10m AAV we cannot and should not match that. He is not that player. So then we’ll be left with matching and destroying our cap for a player not worth that much or taking the compensation which is a lot of draft picks.
Lou can take the compensation and then use it to go get a player or he can see what Dobson is worth right now to teams.
This is what a smart GM does. And if some team offers the right guy for Dobson, you make the deal unless you really want to pay him 10m AAV or more in an offer sheet scenario.
Dobson has been the QB of the worst PP in team history. If he’s such an elite misunderstood genius we would be better on the PP. And don’t get me started on his screw ups in his own end.
I would love to keep him at a 5-6m AAV on a bridge to see if there’s more there, but if the marketplace is going to go crazy, I want nothing to do with the kind of dollars he’ll command.
Get Pettersson from Vancouver. He’s aged similarly. He’s being blamed for everything going wrong there. He’s Bo’s buddy. He’s a former 100 point scorer instead of a former 70 point scorer and Vancouver only has a few months to trade him before his no trade clause kicks in.
If Lou turns Dobson in the EP40? Chef’s kiss, folks.
We don’t need Dobson to win. We need actual goal scoring elite talent up front. Roy’s system is cooking with guys who don’t shit themselves when they get pressured by the opposing team and hand them the puck.
And if Barzy goes on LTIR and can return for the playoffs and we add Pettersson, we’re the fucking Vegas Knights in the first round. And you know it. Sorry you bought a #8 jersey. My first jersey was a LaFontaine and then he got dealt. It happens.
This will not go well btw
Dobson to St. Louis with picks for Kyrou
It would be the most Lou thing ever to sell low on Dobson while extending Nelson, who will be 34 when he plays his first game on his next contract, and DeAngelo.
Dobson is on long-term disability. How can he be trading deadline bait. He’s likely not useful for this season.
It’s important to remember that this is horseshit someone made up to generate clicks for a website nobody has ever heard of.
Why would we want a good pick and prospect for nelson? We can have him play into his late 30s!
Selling Dobson after this season he’s had? Bad idea. He’s 25, offensive d man.
I would just like to point out that the Pulock extension for 6.15×8 where everyone lauded it as a reasonable contract for a 1D who could quarterback the PP and PK and would continue to develop, looks like an overpay when Pulock never really took that next step. Is anyone comfortable with Dobson starting at the very least at 8m, with the potential of him being a 10m player if he’s not that 70 point guy and it was an aberration?
Genius. Let’s sell a 25 year old d man that has out up 70 points and sign a declining forward into his late 30s that is wanted by every team in the league rn. I don’t know what’s worse our little brother small market fan base of “at least we made the playoffs!” Or “we did better than the rangers!” Or our senile gm
Who the hell is rg.org and why should I believe they aren’t just repeating what gets bandied about here, on Twitter, etc.?
As a 40+ year fan of my beloved Isles…..this all really comes down to whether we have a chance in the playoffs to win a round. Right now…..It is a steep climb to get in regarding the # of teams, games played, etc. I’ll give it a 20% chance we make it with a 5% chance we make it past the first round.
Now……I FUCKING hate when we don’t make the playoffs….My entire summer is ruined…..so part of me says try to make it no matter what or the odds I’ve given below…….but at some point we need to get back to where we are the home team in the playoffs and not just glad to be in.
I think I would be ok with these trades/moves if we get Tier 1 prospects already showing promise either in juniors or the AHL (or on an NHL team) vs. draft picks……I’m not hearing of any Bedards coming down the pipe but I’m not dialed into that sort of info. Are there any future McDavid’s in the next 1-2 years?
I also do love that players stay a long time with the Isles even if it means we lose out on other players. That is part of our identity. I wish Bailey got a ring with us as well as others that lived and breathed Isles hockey. Nelson/Dobson are those kinds of guys. Keeping them both would be ok with me.
Dobson does a lot of good things but he seems to wilt under pressure at the worst times. Paying him as a #1 dman would be a mistake in my opinion.
I’ve wanted to trade him since this summer, but I would only do it if the price is right. Fortunately, he’s still an RFA.
I don’t get the Dobson defenders. Sure, he’s an assist machine but he’s awful on the penalty kill, awful on the power play, and has seemingly regressed.

I would accept both of these moves. I would accept trading both. I will not accept doing nothing.
Trade Dobson: A+ idea.
Trade Nelson: A+ idea.
Don’t trade Dobson: A+ idea.
Don’t trade Nelson: stupidest idea ever.
