Which Two-Way To Convert: Emoni Bates, Luke Travers, or JT Thor?

The Cleveland Cavaliers have 3 players currently signed to two-way contracts, Emoni Bates, Luke Travers and JT Thor. As of right now, Cleveland has 13 roster players. They must sign a 14th in the next week or so to be able to meet the NBA’s requirement of 14.

That will leave one roster open, a spot that has generally been reserved for converting a two way player. Over the years we have seen the likes of Lamar Stevens, Dean Wade, and Craig Porter Jr converted. Of this current group of two ways who makes the most sense to convert right now?

Emoni Bates, Luke Travers or JT Thor, let’s discuss that.

  1. Gotta be Thor, big man that can shoot the 3. Offensively he looks like a knock off Mobley, haven't seen much defense from him because he's always playing in garbage time. He deserves the chance

  2. I mean none of them will see the floor more than a minute or 2 every few games so I would go with the height and big man backup. Give our bigs a little more time off down the stretch.

  3. Definitely not Luke dude looks like a baby deer every time I see him playing in the NBA. Bates just be jacking shots up never seen him attack the basket honestly Jt Thor gets the nod only because the Cavs need a back up big more than anything

  4. Travers looks like that evil younger brother from "Get Out", but he has a nice game. He is strong in the paint. Bates needs consistency on defense. Bates also takes bad shots. He reminds me of a taller Jordan Poole (if he can maximize his skills). Thor looks like a real stretch 4. He needs a little more muscle. He is still the most ready of the 3.

  5. Thor already has NBA experience from his time in Charlotte so he makes the most sense in the short-term. I'm hoping Travers continues to trend upwards and makes a stronger case for himself next season. I'm rooting for Bates too but to say he's a long shot at this point would be an understatement

  6. Well, the Cavs were interested in Ben Simmons before he went to LA so I think Travers kind of fits that tall playmaker build, plus I think Travers 3 ball will develop especially in this offense. Dean is supposed to be back after the break so chances might be limited, but I could definitely see Travers being the next man up.

  7. I think Emoni isn’t efficient because his job is to just shoot 3s in the G 🤷🏾‍♂️, one thing i like about how they use the G to develop skills, I definitely see them trying to make emoni a taller Sam Merrill

  8. I think Emoni worked hard to put the weight on and he'll shine with better talent. Traverse i liked better last year. This year hes shown me absolutely less than nothing constantly missing shots and losing the ball out of bounds. I started laughing hilariously when the narrator mentioned his quality ball-handling. Thor u bring if u really need the size.

  9. I hope it’s bates tht boi been grinding both games inna g 30+ points , he’s healthy we can also see how much of a good teammate he is to them n how he supports the team , he still young only 21

  10. The sad thing is that this is probably the last time for a while that the Cavs will be able to sign a young player to a multi-year contract. They’ll be a second apron team starting next season and will no longer have a MLE, which is how they’ve been able to sign Wade, Merrill, and CPJ to multi-year deals.
