Vladdy eyes free agency, leaving Blue Jays in uncertain spot

TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips shares his thoughts on the failed extension talks between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays, including why he believes the two sides couldn’t get the deal done, whether or not this could mark the beginning of the end of the relationship between Vladdy and the club, and more on what he described as ‘the end of an era’ for the franchise.

  1. My lone concern is whatever decisions are made from here are Not made by Ross Atkins or Mark Schapiro. These 2 losers have destroyed this teams future with all their decisions. Schapiro saying Vladdy isn't generational, Atkins taking him to arbitration instead of negotiating an extension, and going defense first mentality in the AL east and then doubling down. This front office is incompetent and should be fired.

  2. Trade the greedy diva. No first baseman is worth half a billion dollars. Also, why doesn't he speak english? He was born in Montreal and spent several years in Canada.

  3. It's going to be one ugly different team come next season. Yikes, hopefully they can get some good returns for him. I wouldn't be surprised seeing many players want out after this debacle. Makes the organisation look terrible. Can't blame Vlad, I'd feel soooooooo disrespected. Two yrs in a row jays lining up their ducks going all out, putting Vlad on the back burner. Thinking he's in their back pockets for sure. Just a terrible situation for everyone involved. Including fans. Had so much potential and blew it over the last couple yrs.

  4. They wanted to sign him to the deal that he would have signed 2 years ago. Why are they so dumb. The longer you wait, the higher the price goes. How do the blue jays not understand this 😢

  5. They’re zero for six in the playoffs with Vladdy and have an aging roster and a bottom five farm system. They’re not going to make the playoffs with this group so why overpay Vladdy just so they can put a few more fans in the seats. Why pay him $40-50M a year for 10-12 years when no first baseman makes over $27M on a long term deal right now ? Rebuild coming.

  6. LOLOL Steve…I hate to break it to you…But once Vlad and Bo are gone , Springer Gausman Santander etc will ABSOLUTELY NOT put any fans in the seats . They need to full on FIRESALE come the deadline and into the offseason, Hire a new FO and start the next edition. Ya full on rebuild and it might be 10 years of sucking based on how bad the farm is now. Sad times to be a jays fan.

  7. They are making the business more profitable by not paying players, they literally admitted pure business decision nothing to do with the sport. The 2025 Toronto Blue Jays are the definition of a sellout team. Not interested in winning, interested in making money. Nothing but more business decisions to come. I refuse to support such a blatantly corporate product.
