Evander Kane could completely change the Edmonton Oilers deadline plans | Oilers Update

Evander Kane has missed the entire 24/25 season after undergoing multiple surgeries in the past year. The plan originally was to let Kane heal on the LTIR and then activate him at the beginning of the playoffs allowing the Oilers to use his cap hit at the NHL trade deadline.

Today however, Frank joined the show and talked about it being more likely than not that Kane is wearing orange and blue before this season is over.

    – OILERS NEED : NEW GOALIE COACH
    – OILERS NEED : More game review and interactions with video coach and line coaches to fix weaknesses , problems etc. and or improve pairings etc based on track record history

    opposition teams have to make it by past 5 other oiler players , with 2 dedicated to being on defense ….
    the weaknesses that undermine oilers success is:

    1: DEFENSE NEEDS TO DIG IN AND SHUTDOWN THE PLAYERS COMING OVER THE BLUE LINE & STAY OUT OF GOALIE CREASE AND HIS LINE OF SIGHT ON ANY SHOTS THAT GET BY DEFENSE MEN COVERING THEIR MAN.

    2: FORWARDS NEED NEW SHOT ON GOAL SKILLS AND BE ABLE TO BE UNPREDICTABLE . CURRENTLY OTHER TEAMS KNOW ALL 5 TYPES OF SCORING PLAYS THAT OILERS USE AND HAVE EASILY SHUT THOSE 5 STRATEGIES DOWN .

    MORE UNPREDICTABLE PASSING DRILLS And PRACTICES NEEDED WITH ABILITY TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH MANY TRICKS TO RANDOMIZE THOSE SKILLS , SO OTHER TEAMS CAN'T PREDICT WHAT THEY WILL DO.

    CURRENTLY ALL SCORING STRATEGIES BY ALL OILER FORWARDS ARE EXPECTED AND EASILY SHUTDOWN BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAVE A FEW VARIATIONS .

    Sure a goalie with more experience might be beneficial , but until above 2 weaknesses are overcome . no goalie on earth will be enough to ignore the issues not addressed . period .

  3. What’s the point of this conversation? Kane is playing ball, as he’s near the end of his career and needs another large contract. Consider that he had few places to go and $26Mil in debt when he signed in Edmonton. He needs another meaningful payday to move on from hockey in a good position. He will play ball, the Oilers will be ok, and life will move largely as expected.

  5. Evander Kane is the Oilers wild card for the playoffs .
    spending for other players is useless , the fix is internal .

    Bowman is giving Evander time to fully heal. sure oilers currently desperately need him, but then you have to see ALL THE PLAYERS IN THE LINE UP SHOULD BE ABLE TO CARRY UNTIL THEN.

    The reason Kane is unique , is he plays with a different mindset then what current oilers are kludging through each game . Kane is the key to the cup, but current team weaknesses need to be addressed , or it will be all on him. and it might end up that way, yet another reason to keep him for playoff battles .

    its a very smart strategy by Kane, Knobs and Bowman.

  6. So what Franklin here is saying is that in his opinion, it's more than possible that Kane doesn't want to win a cup and doesn't respect his teammates. Got it

  7. Kane absolutely is the missing piece from last season, we have no body with that crash and bash mentality except Pod but Pod isn’t Kane, the strategy to use him for only playoffs is great, Frank is being a hater Kane will wants that cup
