Will Paul Skenes be a Pirate beyond the 2029 Season? (His last season under contract.)

  1. Unless he absolutely falls in love with the city of Pittsburgh, absolutely not.

  2. He won’t make it to 2029. He will be traded for 4 minor league prospects.

  3. I’d say zero percent chance. If he keeps up what he’s done so far there are probably only a handful of teams with deep enough pockets.

  4. Of course not. Nutting won’t pay him. They’ll send him off for 4 shit prospects and a half eaten ham sandwich

  5. If he gets hurt. Like hand mangled in a garbage disposal or something.  That could drop his value enough for this trash organization to keep him.

  6. The only hope is when the CBA expires at the end of of 2026 that they institute a salary cap and floor, which will turn allow them to sign him long term similar to a Franchise QB. That’s the only chance

  7. Considering how they base their entire promotion of the team completely around him already in year 2, I’m almost morbidly looking forward to how they try to explain to the fanbase how/why they didn’t lock him up long term when he gets traded.

  8. Won’t even last past the trade deadline that year. He’ll be traded for 4 rosin bags and a bat rack to be named later

  9. Skenes isn’t going to be a buc once he hits arbitration.

Hopefully Cherington isn’t the one to blow that trade too

  10. Everything the Pirates have done in their history points to no, but i am gonna cope because I feel like if any Pirates player over the last 25 years was worth of a massive extension, Skenes should be the one to get it.

  11. History says no. Trade him for a talented concessions manager for the ballpark.

  12. Nutting and the Pirates simply can’t afford this guy. A conservative guess is he’ll be in the $400 million range, but with $700 million contracts signed the last two off seasons, the sky’s the limit. It’s one thing to complain (and rightly so) about not signing a few quality players to make his time here worthwhile, but there is simply no way the Pirates could afford this guy, unless he regresses HARD for the next five years.

  13. No chance he even makes it to the end of his contract. Once he’s arbitration eligible he’s gone

  14. No pirates fan is selfish enough to want a guy as awesome and chill as Skenes to play for a horrible org like the Pirates, he deserves better
