  1. Hunh? Mikko got $12 for EIGHT years … until he is 36. The term is what did it. Oh and $12 is exactly what the Avs were offering him, but probably just 4 or 5 years.

  2. Life long Avs fan, I don't get all the hype with Rantanen, he was a beneficiary of being on MacKinnon's wing. I doubt Matt Duchene and Rupe Hintz are going to get him the puck on a silver platter like Nate has. He's big, sure, but never hits, so what's the point. He's this era's Alexi Ponakorovski or Nik Antropov. Big for nothing. Glad he's gone honestly, he was making way too much for what he brought to the table, and now it's worse, because he's making more.

  3. Mikko took the best deal for him(money after tax). If carolina is not ready to pay 13 it's their fault…so close, so close but not enough.

  4. This just shows you, Colorado was bullshitting you all with the 14 mill rumor. It was never true. They offered less than 12 and had to sell it so they needed to make Rantanen look greedy and like hes asking for something insane. If the fans heard hes asking 12 and they are saying no, there would be riots on the streets. Also sucks for Carolina that Raleigh doesn't have the pull of a big city, reportedly the main reason Rantanen didn't want to sign there.

  5. As a stars fan it sucks to see stankoven gone but we are in full cup or bust mode. Hopefully we can actually get past the conference finals this year lol

  6. Dundon and the GMs better have learned how difficult negotiating for star players is. Guentzal and Rantanen were both disasters, they'll sink the franchise with one or two more of these.

  7. When Seguin is back something like
    Robertson-Hintz-Rantanen
    Marchment-Seguin-Duchene
Granlund-Johnston-Benn (lol as a third line)
    Dadonov-Borque-Steel/Blackwell/Back

    Yeah. A bit scary.

  8. It still remains to be seen if Mikko's numbers have been inflated by playing with Makar and MacKinnon. If he has the same scoring issues in Dallas…then we will know its not a system problem but a Mikko problem. And the Canes will ultimately be vindicated in all this.

  9. Between their hot start and the Rantanen drama people seem to have forgotten that this was kinda expected to be a down year for the Hurricanes with all the free agents they lost in the off-season. Their up and down play lately is probably closer to what was actually expected from them this year, this was never expected to be "the year" for them until they started fast.
The idea of them failing because they didn't immediately flip the picks they got for something else is kinda silly. Their core, guys like Slavin, Aho, Jarvis and Svechnikov are all either young or in their primes and signed long term. They have great prospects on the horizon with guys like Nadeau, Unger-Sorum, Nikishin and Morrow. And with Rantanen not signing they have a truck full of money they can back up to the front door and unload on whoever they want in the offseason(Marner?).
Carolina will be fine. The way all this went down stings and Rantanen is now public enemy #1 to the fans here. But they'll be perfectly fine even if this year ends the same as it has in recent years.

Honestly I'm just glad its over so we can all move on. Looking forward to seeing how Stankoven fits in. We've needed a true 2C since Trochek left, maybe he can be that guy.
