If you wanna make some sort of subjective theory of what mvp is that’s different than good or valuable to their team then go ahead I don’t think anyone can stop you but we all know Jok’s been the best player in the league going on 5 ish years now and it’s not likely to change all that soon

    If shai gets it, we’ll all remember this as the greatest season of all time that also separately didn’t get an mvp and I think that’s funny and hype in its own right.

    Shaq had 1 MVP, Kobe had 1 MVP: both top 10 and beloved worldwide.

    The award is just a damn award. Winning a title is the ultimate prize, and that is the expectation Denver should thrive for over some trophy voted by people that should not have a voice.

    Ahh, Bell’s palsy. Had a feeling it was something to that effect. Wishing him well and it’s good that he’s still in front of cameras despite the condition. Always protect your health first but it’s good for people to see the condition for what it is.

  19. Okay I hate how everyone is totally discounting that the thunder have the first seed by a mile. When did standings not matter in an MVP discussion? I definitely think it’s close but in any normal year it’d go to SGA, despite how historic Jokic’s season has been

  21. IT isn’t wrong. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am so happy to be a basketball fan living through this era and getting to see this. It is absolutely mind-boggling what is going on right now with him, SGA, Luka, Giannis, and the epic twilight of Curry, Durant, Harden, LeBron. This is without a doubt the best era of basketball in history. Sure there are problems with foul baiting, carries, and too much distance shooting but overall… We are witnessing history.

    I’m saying this as a massive ’80s and ’90s fan and someone who has written a lot about Wilt and how the modern fan completely underrates him. Hell, I even love digging into the ’70s with Dr. J since I saw him all of the time in old comics advertisements as a kid. And my team’s only championship was just before my time in ’79. I lived through Showtime and saw the NBA explode in the ’80s while growing up.

  22. The problem for Jokic is that he’s having his best statistical season, but his team is kind of shit and he doesn’t look as unstoppable as he did a few years ago even if his numbers are up. SGA is also have a huge statistical season, he looks pretty unstoppable on offense, his perimeter defense is great, and his team is playing awesome.

    “He’s the best, everyone knows he’s the best, he is statistically the best, but he’s not going to win MVP because…. reasons”.

    It’s not the “Most Valuable Player” award if the most valuable player as recognized by 99.9% of viewers doesn’t get the award. At that point, it’s a glorified popularity contest.

    And to be honest, it’s not even that, because Jokic is much more popular than Shai. It’s really like some kind of weird, unspoken-rule-contest where nobody knows the rules, but somehow everyone knows the rules. Just plain stupid.

  32. Durant not being surprised because Joker touches the ball almost every play is real dumb. Why aren’t all the point guards putting up ridiculous, insane, all time numbers then? They’ve been the primary ball handlers for most teams for most of the leagues history. KD is just being aloof, acting too cool for school.

    Not being surprised because jokic is that good and you’d expect a big night like that occasionally is one thing. “Meh, he gets the ball a lot.” Is just stupid.

  35. Maybe this has no merit, but I feel like number of MVPs should somewhat be tied to number of championships. If Jokic wins MVP again, he has as many as LeBron who has 4x as many championships. He has one less than Jordan who has 6x as many championships. Unless he wins another ring for Denver I think it’ll be one too many MVPs.

  36. He is breaking the records that Wilt Chamberlain set in an era with no athleticism, with no athleticism himself, in an era where everyone is incredibly athletic. Yet he behave like it’s a regular job. It’s just mind blowing.

  37. Every single early season talking point that people made against jokic not being MVP has been dismantled. The biggest was “seed rank matters”. That was screeched on this subreddit for months. Now the nuggets are 2nd seed. What then? “Oh no here’s some other reasons Shai should get it.”

    I’m sorry but the inconsistency is just really annoying at this point. Shai is a fantastic player and really young. Jokic is 30. Give the man all the freaking awards he deserves. Shai will have his time.

  40. The fact is, it’s most valuable *player*, not most valuable team. The thunder are balling, and as a Cavs fan I’m very concerned, especially considering what they did to us last game.

    But I’m sorry, Jokic is the mvp and it’s not even close.
