2. Well everyone below us in the standings also lost yesterday so we picked a good night, if any, to fuck that up

3. THAT SUCKED.

4. To think I spent most of the game thinking we had this in the bag. They fucked up completely in the 3rd

5. This type of loss weeks away from playoffs is not ideal.

6. Awful collapse. It happens.

   We got the luck needed and no one picked up points on us. Shrug it off and don’t let it happen again.

7. Teams are fighting for their lives trying to lock up playoffs, bad teams at that. Why aren’t we?

8. I’m still so pissed over that game. You can’t blow a 2 goal lead in the 3rd this late in the season trying to solidify your spot against a team that is known for not being able to score goals. You just can’t. Like I’m pissed. And the whole “they play like this in the 3rd all season it’s on Keefe.” doesn’t sit well with me because this was the 1st regulation loss with a lead all season! After a game where almost the same thing happened so I feel like this is recent. I don’t remember ever feeling worried that they would blow it in the 3rd with a lead earlier in the season, even when the mid play started in January. So is this a recent change of game plan with the injuries? If so change it back. I’m also super upset about Markstrom. What exactly does Keefe mean by “he’s not there yet”? He’s still hurt? He’s in his own head? Then enough let Allen play and call up Daws. It just sucks because he was playing so well before his injury. I’m sick and tired of shit going wrong for this team. Best offensive forward , injured again. Best Offensive D, injured again. Best defensive D, injured again. Goalie playing well, gets hurt and hasn’t recovered. Now 2 veteran players, hurt. And even though you can’t blame that loss on all of that it still sucks. Can this team ever get over this hump and this fan base experience nice things again?? I’m so over it. Yes this is a doom post but that game stung.

9. I could be wrong, but I think the last time we pulled the goalie and scored to force OT was November 9th against the Isles. How the fuck does that even happen when we’ve lost so many 1 goal games?

17. What a glorious build up for such a miserably devastating let down.

    Went from thinking they were back back, to thinking they can fold like toilet paper at any time.

    That was the first time the entire season that they lost the game after going into the 3rd with a lead, so historically they don’t actually do that often like people were insisting they do, yesterday.

18. Tatar easily should have had 2 and Mercer had that wide open breakaway. Missing those golden chances gives the other team hope. Guys like that need to find their killer instinct and just get the puck in the damn net. Talk to John Cotter.

19. After having a night to think about it, realistically this is one of maybe a couple of games we blew in the 3rd, especially with a 2 goal lead. The fact we put up back to back stinkers in the 3rd though is alarming.

    Ultimately I don’t think it changes much however. This team has been off since christmas, save for this last short stretch of games. We’ll probably still make the playoffs, but we’ll also still probably lose in the 1st round.

21. even if Hughes and Hamilton weren’t injured, this team wouldn’t have been a whole lot better…

    this was yet another “character loss” for the team… we don’t see a whole lot of “character wins”

22. I woke up still pissed off.

23. They didn’t play to win, they laid back and let Calgary get the momentum and once they scored one it was only a matter of time before the rails came off. I didn’t like the hanging back and playing more prevent defense. The team had played well for two periods. It wasn’t their best effort, but they bottled up the Flames attack for the most part. If they would have played with more urgency earlier in the period, it may have prevented that loss. It’s still just one game and they have a cushion, but that third period effort will not fly once the calendar turns to the playoffs.

24. Babe wake up, new worst loss of the season just dropped

25. This is my fault. I turned the game on early in the 3rd when we were up 3-1. I should’ve turned it off after the Flames scored to make it 3-2, but instead I kept it on until the bitter end. That’s my bad juju. Sorry everybody.

26. For everyone saying “everybody below us lost,” the Islanders–who entered the evening tied with Columbus–won.

27. Markstrom obviously didn’t have a great game, but it’s hard to pin the loss on him when the entire team just turtled in the 3rd period.

    Last night was also a perfect example of why I hate when fans/commentators/etc. will say “just chip the puck out of the zone!” when defending a lead. The Devils were giving the puck away (if it wasn’t an icing) and the Flames would regroup in the neutral zone and take it right back into the Devils’ end. I’d rather see them make a play or go east-west for a clean zone exit and beating the opposing forecheck. They probably would’ve had some odd-man rushes since the Flames were pressing so hard.

    Just have to shake this off and take it out on Ottawa.

29. I really thought once Calgary tied it we’d at least bunker down and get a point. We then immediately give up a 2 on 0 chance and then a second odd man rush where they score. Unacceptable stuff

30. As pissed as we are, the players themselves are 100x more pissed. This could be an inflection point for the team. This was a game that should have been a W, must have been a W, that they all let collectively go because they took their foot off the gas. If they look at themselves hard in the mirror and understand that if they want to be a playoff team then games like this can’t happen, then they might be able to turn it around next time.

31. Markstrom cost us the game last night (yes yes, Devils played a bad 3rd period- 2 things can be true at the same time!!). And he was bad against Pittsburgh. But you have to give him a chance to get it going, plus you keep Allen fresh down the stretch too. 

    And we do have a cushion. They’ll probably rotate the two, and then give Markstrom more run once they clinch. I think it’s the right call. 

32. Played great the first 40, was just another case of the Devils not playing 1 period and it biting them. In house you could feel how nervous everyone got after the 3-2 goal. What does this team need to change to get them to play a full 60 minutes every night!?
