Nick Kyrgios returned to winning ways at this year’s Miami Open, securing his first victory since 2022.
The Australian stars’ search for a first win since returning from injury finally came to an end, as Kyrgios beat Mackenzie McDonald in Miami.
He had previously lost his opening matches in three tournaments this year, falling to defeat against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in Brisbane, Jacob Fearnley in Melbourne, and Botic van de Zandschulp at Indian Wells.

Kyrgios’ only victory of the year had come in the doubles where he teamed up with one of the sport’s greatest-ever players in an Australian Open warm-up tournament.
The 29-year-old has now been asked to play with the ATP legend once more and has shared his response to the invitation online.
Nick Kyrgios agrees to play doubles with Novak Djokovic at the Belgrade Open in 2025
24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic recently spoke about his wish to play doubles with Kyrgios again in 2025.
“I do really wish that we play another time [in] doubles,” he said.
“Later on this year we have a tournament in Belgrade, I’m planning to play it.
“I don’t know if he’s planning to come, so maybe, yeah, maybe we should slam it there.”

Kyrgios took to social media, responding positively to Djokovic’s invite.
“I’m in partner,” he said.
The pair competed in doubles at January’s Brisbane International, battling past Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies in the first round, 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.
The blockbuster pairing wowed fans with their talents as they made their way through to the second round, facing off against the experienced duo of Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus.
It was there that their run came to an end, this time losing 10-8 in the match tiebreaker, after another thriller in Brisbane.

Both players have competed in doubles since with different partners, winning just one match between them.

If the Aussie had beaten Van de Zandschulp in his Indian Wells opener, Kyrgios would’ve played Djokovic in the second round.
It wasn’t to be, however, as the wait for a fourth career meeting between the pair went on.
They are far less likely to play one another in Miami, having been placed in the sixth and eighth sections of the draw.

Kyrgios and Djokovic won’t meet until the semi-finals, so will need to secure four more wins each if they are to face off later this month.

2022 Miami Open champion Carlos Alcaraz would likely stand in Kyrgios’ way in the fourth round, who himself would jump at the opportunity to play Djokovic having suffered defeat in Melbourne earlier this year.

It remains to be seen if we will see Djokovic and Kyrgios face off on opposite sides of the net in 2025, but it certainly seems like fans can look forward to them playing together in doubles later this year.
