Kyrie Irving rants about old players in the media: “They have lost their way. There are some former players that just chat shit, don’t talk about anything and just hate on younger players. You see somebody you admire go on TV and say ‘get over it because you make more money’ I’m so sick of that”

  1. Facts, this is the only sports where oldheads just shit on them non stop, you rarely see that in european football.

  2. something to do while he recovers i dig. and he’s probably right. can’t wait for espn to bring this up.

  3. Rich people are tired of normal folks complaining about rich people complaining about their rich people problems. Got it.

  4. I watch basketball. I’ve watched basketball since back when you’d be lucky to see an article in the morning paper about last nights game. All we had was box scores. If you missed it, you missed it.

Now I still do that. I just watch basketball. I don’t care about the narratives. I don’t care about the box score. I’m watching the game. I see who’s doing what. I see how the game has changed.

Anyone that cares what people are saying about basketball games are missing the point of basketball. Including kyrie.

Kyrie, we all love you. You’re a hooper. I’m not mad at you for trying to shine a light in the dark corners. But I just want to say, no one that matters really cares what’s going on back there, man. We’re watching hoops. We see you guys. It’s fine. Get paid and get wins. It’s fine.

  5. Not wrong and many current players have been saying this. Doesn’t help some fans just parrot the takes these older players say about how they make millions so suck it up and play when injured because it’s their job and how they can drop 20 pts in one quarter if they were in the league because they drop 40 playing pick up games at the gym against people who can’t even get into the g league.

  6. Yeh older players are just jealous of contracts. Most of them would struggle in the current nba as skills have gotten higher. Kyrie should have a podcast lol

  7. NBA has been so self-loathing lately and then they wonder why ratings are down.

If you hate you then I hate you too.

  8. It’s not just old heads. I’m seeing a lot of folks in general have no common courtesy or healthy boundaries anymore. A lot of people on their phones are totally oblivious to their environment and the people around them. I’m not sure I’m as upset as older generations (actually I am kind of an old boyo now, so maybe I’m mad at the same thing) as much as my peers if I’m being honest. I’m used to the former as all younger generations are at odds with the former—it’s part of growing up. Like you said, Kyrie, we look up to them, so it’s dangerous if we don’t treat each other with compassion or at least try to understand them before making up our mind.

  9. Shoutout to KG, Iverson, D Wade, Magic (unless you insult his era, lol) for always showing love to the younger generation.

Isiah Thomas too, in fact Zeke has more beef with people from his era (MJ, Pippen, Oakley) and always praised the younger generation.

  10. We’re all sick of it, but the constant complaining about “negativity” has almost become more toxic than the oldheads’ complaints

  11. People keep bringing up Chuck like Perkins isn’t there every single day shitting on modern players with his worthless resume.

  12. He’s not wrong. I’m sure it happens to an extent in sports like MLB, NHL, and NFL…but for some reason, it’s amplified in the NBA.

  13. One thing I learned about the job market is never focus on what others are making. It wastes time and energy. Focus on your own shit and what you can control. Move forward.

  14. I mean they could say the same about the players today. Y’all take everything for granted and are so ungrateful to what the older players had to go through just so yall could make all the money yall do today. Load management is the biggest slap in the face to older players because they weren’t make good enough money to sit out for long periods of time. Yes the old players are hard on today’s players but that’s because yall deserve it low key. Not all of you but a good portion cough cough embiid cough

  15. KG and AI are two of the players i see always quick to give props, tons of respect for them when so many of these older players are just bitter and envious.

  16. Why is it only in the NBA that former and current players bash each other? I dont really hear about this in other sports. And salaries have increased in every sport, not just the NBA

  17. Both, fans criticizing players for being rich and older players shitting on younger players is not remotely a new thing. It is exponentially amplified because of social media, but it’s always happened.

  18. This generation IS destroying the NBA. Viewership is sinking like a stone with an anchor tied to it. Too many players making HUGE money that don’t seem to give a damn about winning games. Hell, some can’t even be bothered to play. Obviously the greed of the owners have played a part but they aren’t the face of the league.

  19. I’m glad to see the pushback on this crap. NBA coverage is hard to watch with all the player and ref hate. Everyone whining about something instead of discussing basketball.

  20. Whatever lack of interest in the nba these days seems to be everyone else’s fault except the players on the court. Cool

  21. He isn’t wrong, but have fun trying to convince people to have sympathy for athletes making an unfathomable amount of money. I get it is an incredible amount of stress these guys have on them to perform, but they are set for life after one season, so no one cares.
