Brian Windhorst responds to Lebron’s comments: “LeBron doesn’t owe me anything. I owe him a lot. He has been a great friend to my hometown and my alma mater. That I would stand on. Anything else, I would never say or never stand on.”

  1. Windhorst the only emotionally mature, ego-stripped adult in the room. Props to him.

  2. Brian Windhorst is my favorite NBA reporter. Seems to love the game, and never makes it about himself like a lot of other reporters do. I loved when he had his moment on the Mitchell trade, it was well deserved.

  3. This is the smart move. Not doubling down on being perceived as LeBron friend who knows all the thoughts behind a man’s head.

  4. Lebron has been a public figure for a long time and Windhorst’s career is basically built on being a close observer of Lebron since Lebron first became a public figure. I think everyone can agree on that.

Maybe Lebron doesn’t like that Windhorst has been such a close observer for so long but what can anyone do about that.

  5. Shout out to Windy for taking it in stride. I find a lot of these talking heads to be wastes of space in the media landscape but the man does actual research and actually seems to give a fuck about the sport and not just using it as an avenue to get they’re “persona” over.

  6. Windy is the best he always acknowledged LeBron helped him advance his career and been humble, it’s others in the media who tried to portray him as Lebrons best friend but that’s never been the way Windy has tried to leverage it.

  7. When I heard that LeBron quote I was thinking Windy was like “why he say fuck me for?” 😂 good on Windy

  8. I feel like I have never heard Windy call Bron his friend or that they had a close relationship. Just that he has been covering Bron for his whole career and has known him at least in passing for 25 years.

  9. I think LeBron was unnecessarily harsh on Windy. I think he failed to see he took the spot as the main reporter of him when he was starting out in the league.

It was inevitable that someone got that role. And he got someone that was respectful, reported the facts, and was largely a pro-LeBron reporter. He could have easily gotten someone that was more like SAS who is a prick and just speaks for headlines.

  10. Windy caught a stray. He never said he was friends, let alone best friends with Lebron. Lebron was wrong for putting that one out there.

  11. tbh, being the ultimate cool kid that LeBron is… calling people “weird” is kind of mean and bully-ish. as a dad, I can understand just spraying at everyone if you’re tired of people going at your kid. but yeah, it’s bully work

  12. I understood brons point with that comment, and I think it’s a valid point. But it seemed unnecessarily vitriolic towards Windy. Windhorst is pretty unproblematic, and he’s never been particularly critical of LeBron. Just seemed mean to me. Whatever though.

  13. I really don’t understand all the ridicule and hate Windy is commonly faced with. Feels like a lot of it stems from superficial notions about his appearance. But I think he definitely is one of the best and most level-headed national media figures out there.
