It’s an Opening Day Dodgers Debate! The Los Angeles Dodgers win their domestic home opener to begin the season 3-0. Los Angeles Times beat reporter Jack Harris and columnists Bill Plaschke and Dylan Hernández sit down to talk about the game, the season, the not-at-all-hot-button issue of visiting the White House and all of them wonder how many wins the team needs for Dylan not to trash the team.

  3. 100% agree with Dylan. The disrespect that the White House has shown is so disrespectful and there we go to DC to kiss the ring of the President who doesn’t care about California, Latinos and the diversity Los Angeles represents. Disappointed but I know the ownership is probably more aligned with the Right (due to fiscal policies, etc.) than how most of the fan base aligns politically.

It would be an honor to meet and shake President Trump’s hand. Keep your personal political TDS out of it. It’s 🇺🇸’s favorite sport. Stop dividing your MLB/Los Angeles audience.   18. “Haven’t you been watching the news?!?!” Some people may just not give a shit about things that they have no control over. That’s the trick of politics is to tricking yourself into thinking your emotional position/response actually has an impact in the grand scheme of things. It’s theater/entertainment, just like sports. We’re free agents and decide what and how we tune into things. I choose to participate in enjoying sports as entertainment. I do not choose to partake/participate in political theater. I am still a human being with values and value. Have a great season Dodger fans. Don’t let the outside noise raise your cortisol levels. Breathe and enjoy the moment with your loved ones, it’s going to be a great summer.

Tbh i like the idea of the team not going but i think they should all go, if some dont like it then wear a pin from what nationality that person comes from as a sign of protest or opposition to the views that the current whitehouse has, just like the u.s basballs best feature is its diversity and if people can see that a mixed bag of cultures dont care about their culture and only on their ability to play when asked, it might show something to america. Thats my view atleast.

  26. I very much appreciated Dylan's thoughts on the Dodger's brass deciding to go to the WH. They are afraid of backlash and will look like hypocrites when they come back and celebrate Jackie Robinson day after making nice with the racist-in-chief. The Dodgers have a proud legacy of diversity and inclusion, and they should do everything they can to protect it.

  28. As a dodger fan i hope certain players who hate Trump don't define what the Dodgers as a team are about. As a spectator I will also define which players on the Dodgers team I support and those I won't. Hopefully you won't hear the comments coming out of my mouth when those who hate Trump comes up to bat.

  32. Why not just send Treinen as the sole representative of the team: I'm sure he'd be glad to go. He can talk about Jesus and the Bible with the resident expert on the subject in the White House.
