Jakub Mensik won the biggest title of his career so far at the Miami Open by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.

Mensik has been congratulated for his Miami victory by many of his colleagues, after the Czech teenager overcame three top 10 players in the process to his title win.

Despite the disappointment of losing only his second Miami Open final, Djokovic was full of praise for Mensik.

After winning the biggest title of his career so far, Mensik has been backed to continue rising up the ATP rankings.

Prior to the Miami Open, Mensik was a promising young talent, but was still ranked outside the top 50 and was yet to win a main ATP Tour title.

However, after Mensik made history in Miami it has given him a new status on the ATP Tour.

When discussing Mensik’s run to the Miami Open title, 2018 singles champion John Isner spoke about what the 19-year-old did that impressed him.

Isner was particularly taken aback by Mensik’s composure in the big moments, and highlighted that he appears to have gone under the radar compared to fellow teenage talent Joao Fonseca.

“Incredible performance. First ever title being a Masters 1000. Crazy impressive,” Isner said on the Nothing Major Podcast. “Started off his campaign, won his first round match, took out the Indian Wells champion Jack Draper in two straight sets.

“Looked like Draper came super prepared and ready to compete in Miami and Mensik was able to get past him and from that point forward he was just very, very solid.

“He was undefeated at tie-breakers, beating Taylor Fritz 7-6 in the third in semi-finals and then taking out the best player of all time in two tie-breaks sets in the final. Incredibly impressive, poise beyond his years. He was unflappable.

“Fonseca, another teenager, was stealing all the headlines with his early performance at the tournament. Not many people were talking about Mensik but he was quietly going about his business.

“He found himself in the semi-finals and then you might think okay Taylor is going to beat him and it’s going to be Fritz vs Djokovic in the final. But no, he wins that match 7-6 in the third and then wins the final. So crazy impressive. Huge game.

“It’s insane to think he is only 19 and he is super physical, strong kid and the best is yet to come for him. Great future, he is going to be one of everyone’s radar, he is not going to fly under anyone’s radar now.”

Highest Ranked teenagers on the ATP Tour

Mensik first arrived in the spotlight as a 17-year-old at the US Open in 2023, coming through qualifying to reach the third round.

Since then, he has continued his rise to become one of the most established teenage talents on the ATP Tour.

With his triumph at the Miami Open, Mensik has now cemented his place as the highest ranked teenager on the ATP Tour at world number 24.

Mensik’s closest rival is the aforementioned Fonseca, who is currently at his career-high ranking 35 places below the Miami Open champion.

Although Mensik is now a top 30 player, he may have to play qualifying at his next ATP tournament.

With the entry list for the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters coming out weeks before the Miami Open, Mensik is currently the seventh alternate to enter the main draw.
