Good analysis of free agents and trade targets this summer. I hope we don't go all in on Marner and snag a couple other of the players mentioned instead.

  2. Would love Boesser on a line with Schmaltz. A reunion of 2/3 of the NCAA National Championship “CBS” line would make this UND fan happy.

  3. This off season could be a really big one for the club! Certainly won’t be boring with all the trade rumors that will be flying around on top of the Delta Center renovations and whatnot!

  4. The good news with this team? So many options! We are clearly competitive, and our defense was decimated with injuries but are now healthy. The ceiling for this team can be high as we have seen, but the consistency will be key.

    I think Marner would be an excellent pick up. He would cost a lot of money, which I would suspect would be around 10-12 mil for a long term deal (my guess, 12 mil 5 years). The article is right, Cooley and Doan will cost us and they both should be long term extensions. The ideal core team?

    G: Veggie
    D pair 1: Sergy, Durzi,
    D pair 2: Kesselring, Marino
    Line 1: Keller, Cooley, Guenther
    Line 2: Schmaltz, Hayton, Marner (if possible).

    Two excellent 2 line defenses (Maata to fill the 3rd with whoever), and then an excellent top 6 would put this team in great position. I feel after that we have solid depth with Doan, Crouse, Stenlund, Kerfoot, and McBain (him being the bruiser..)

    Overall, a Marner move would make UHC a dangerous team! My opinion, the wild card will be Bear. If he has a top 4 D like that and two line pairs as above, and the team struggles, I wouldn’t be surprised in a coaching change.
